in clearwater the search for a missing man who could be in danger is intensifying. officials are ramping up search overnight. this is 82-year-old bob taylor. last seen yesterday afternoon south. >> abc action news reporter adam winer joins us live at the regency oaks south where the 82- year-old man was last seen. what have you learned? >> reporter: we're just talking concern is this man may have been wandering overnight when temperatures were dipping down to near freezing temperatures

the screen. 82-year-old bob taylor, police saying he suffers from both alzheimer's and early dementia. and it's not even clear how much clothing he may or may not be wandering out in public with now. with me is a spokesperson with clearwater police, rob shaw. rob, i understand you're officers, since you learned yesterday about taylor's disappearance a lot of efforts through the night. can you lay out exactly what your officers have been doing overnight to search for the man? >> overnight we had all our units fanning out throughout the area passing out flyers to businesses that were open, patrolling neighborhoods, looking in the parks. basically going everywhere looking for mr. taylor. this morning now that we have daylight we're going to be revisiting business that's since reopened. we have our detectives outer that are fanning out throughout the area and will be intensifying our efforts immensely trying to find him. >> >> reporter: the cold must be among key concerns. you're not even sure how much he may have been prepared for

that's one of our main concerns is how cold it was overnight. the 30s. that would not be healthy for someone of normal health to be so we're extremely worried about the health of an 82-year- old who suffers from dementia and how he's able to battle these elements. >> reporter: you've seen bob you have this flyer you're local businesses. and we've got images on our we're urging people to share this and of course if you have any information to contact clearwater police. for now live in clearwater, adam winer, back to you. this is dangerous cold weather, maybe milder near the weather but still this is the big concern. this gentleman needs to be found. >> without a warm coat, even temperatures like they were in clearwater this morning where they were in -- near 40 degrees, you would not want to be out there for any length of time.

warming up, the temperature warming up now. clearwater now 47 degrees. tarpon springs at 43, so you can see this is where the temperatures are more mild. now, as we look to the north temperatures that are in the low 40s, this is where we had temperatures that were near freezing as we were starting the day. so certainly some improvement there. and across hillsborough county now we are finally making our way into the mid-40s. certainly getting some improvement across the area. we will continue to warm up pretty quickly through the day. in fact we will be ending the day at 64 degrees, warmer than where we were yesterday with lots of sunshine, no rain in sight. so even though it has been really a cold start to the day, by our standards for this time of year, nothing out there that is going to cause you any problems on the roads this morning. janelle, what is going on as far as hitting the roads now? just when we thought we were out of the woods we got this crash on i-75 northbound,

blocking some of the inside lanes here. you can see police and fire trucks on scene here trying to clear this crash but it's causing some major delays on i- 75, all the way back to 301. look at this traffic jam. we're showing a drive time of almost two hours to get from the southern apex down at 275 up to i-4. on the map you can see alternates. you can take 41 or even 301. those are moving better than i- 75 right now. either way, just avoid i-75 northbound. your drive times, switching gears, drive time through downtown tampa on 275 still slow, 11 minutes northbound from the howard frankland to i- 4. we have new developments in the newsroom. deputies in manatee county are now investigating whether a deadly shooting in bradenton might be connected to the case

state park in manatee county. 23-year-old jordan finlon's body was found along bishop harbor road tuesday afternoon. it's unclear how long her body may have been there. detectives are also investigating a shooting that happened yesterday in bradenton dead. either case call crime stoppers. right now the mother of baby chance walsh is in court for a plea hearing. she was charged with first degree murder and child neglect along with the 9 week old's father joseph walsh. you remember baby chance was found in the woods of sarasota county last year. it's believed joseph walsh beat him to death and she helped keep the body hidden. lindsay logue is in the courtroom now and a live report at 9:30. we're continuing to follow breaking news from northwest pakistan where the taliban is taking responsibility for a terrorist attack on a university. gunmen stormed the campus of bacha khan university shortly after it opened for classes

at least 20 students and one professor died in the attack. many more wounded. pakistani soldiers ended that siege killing all four gunmen. the pakistani prime minister now vowing to wipe out terrorism in his country. u.s. 41 and palmetto is back open for drivers after a propane bank exploded. the north river fire department rushed to bring that fire under control. the company distributes soil fumigation products. no injuries were reported. right now manatee and sarasota county communities are continuing to clean up millions of dollars in damage from the past weekend's severe weather and tornadoes. comes a warning about shady contractors trying to make a buck off the devastation. we're told people that claim to be contractors are hounding neighbors offering to help with roofing, flooring, water restoration, mold and more. it really has people there fed up. one homeowner says he's been

the fbi shows violent crime was up in the united states. for the first six months of 2015. compared to the year before. the fbi says there was a 1.7% jump in the overall number of violent crimes reported by local law enforcement with increases in murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. the fbi said violent crime rose most dramatically at 5.3%. in hillsborough county, a man was accused of a crime he didn't commit. >> suspected of breaking into a gun shop the man tells abc action news why him and his three brothers are innocent. xavier naiverrette was behind bars at the hillsborough county jail for two weeks. two people identified him and his brothers from surveillance video in october. where 42 guns why stolen. >> he says he was out for a run when the crime happened. eventually cell phone records proved he was nowhere near the crime scene. >> i was literally thinking of like, cameras, my neighbor might have or, like a store down the street that might have

and field. it came down to the cell phone. yeah. >> deputies say they arrested the brothers based on witness statements but as soon as they saw inconsistencies in the investigation they requested the state attorney's office drop the charges. >> so far four of the stolen guns have been recovered. detectives believe most of the guns are still in the bay area. 9:09. let's check with meteorologist shay ryan. >> warming up some. most temperatures are in the 40s after the cold start. not so bad for the kids with today. i mean, it's better than yesterday, right? then we will be falling back closer to 60 degrees by 6:00. but again this is an improvement since yesterday and here. i'll show what you is ahead and when our next chance of rain is, along with our next cold front coming up in the 7-day forecast.

ben carson and his campaign staff are in mourning now. after one of his volunteers died following an accident in western iowa. that crash happened yesterday morning, a van transporting 25- year-old braden joplin and three other campaign staff hit a patch of ice, flipped on its sides and was hit by another vehicle. carson temporarily suspended his campaign to fly to -- to fly to iowa to console the family at the hospital. >> i hope his death will not be in vain.

kinder and gentler place. those who think there is no room for kindness and gentleness but there is. >> a number of his presidential rivals including senators ted cruz and marco rubio tweeted support for carson's campaign team after the accident. republican presidential frontrunner donald trump received what he hopes will be a major endorsement. sarah palin endorsed trump last night in iowa. >> the former governor and alaska vice presidential candidate says trump is the man to undo the damage done to the country under the obama administration. >> we are mad and we have been had. they need to get used to it, this election is more than just your basic abc's. anybody but clinton. it's more than that this go around. >> palin told supporters trump would be a lead they're could make america great again. trump is in a near dead heat

hillary clinton also received a major endorsement yesterday. the human rights campaign, the nation's lesbian, gay, transsexual organization gave its blessing to the former secretary of state. >> the endorsement couldn't come at a better time. a new poll finds clinton trailing bernie sanders by 27 points in new hampshire. clinton also remains under fire for using that private e-mail server. intelligence community inspector general wrote in a just published letter clinton's server included information designated even above top secret. the fbi and justice department continued to conduct a separate investigation into her e-mail server. right now an ohio man is in jail for trying to have an innocent dog euthanized in place of his pit bull. that attacked a therapy dog and its owner. the judge ordered james dotson to euthanize his pit bull for the vicious attack that happened in october. but a prosecutor says he adopted a similar-looking dog

luckily an spca worker got suspicious, scanned the microchip and realized the truth. the judge sentenced dotson to 28 days in jail without probation or work release. >> one thing for you to ignore a court order, is one thing, and another thing to perpetrate a fraud on this court. in my 10 years as a judge i can't recall a more cold and heartless act. >> his pit bull has since been put down. the dog he tried to have euthanized is now back up for adoption. geologists are expected to inspect a rockslide that closed a high near fresno, california. highway. no cars were hit but the rockslide caused one minor accident. highway 41 is still closed until the area is declared safe. officials say recent heavy rain caused the rockslide yesterday. forecasters are calling for more rain in the area friday. let's check outside.

>> you still want a jacket, most likely. i would. yeah, so the temperatures are warming up, the warming trend is starting to kick in this afternoon. it keeps getting better from there. i say better because i think there are a lot of us that really do want it a tad warmer, near freezing is not the way i like to start the day in the tampa bay area. look at the temperatures now, 45 around tampa. 48 st. pete. down to the south around bradenton, arcadia, into sebring 48 degrees. and 41 now in lakeland. so yeah, we've been off to this chilly start. the extra cloud cover we had over tampa bay actually helped to keep the temperatures closer to 40 degrees, throughout much of the morning but to the north of that, that's where the temperatures really plummeted overnight. even upper 20s. high pressure now in control, this is going to keep us rain- free today. but we are still seeing that flow of air coming from the

the winds primarily about 5 to 10 miles per hour, not too much of a breeze. with lots of sunshine a warmer finish today. the winds will start to shift a little more easterly and that's where we tap into some slightly more mild air. so overnight tonight we'll be in the 40s to low 50s. we'll be topping out tomorrow at 72. i think this is our aof plus day of the week, then goes down hill after. that the next cold front round of rain and storms are at this point the timing looks to be through the afternoon and into the evening. again we'll fine tune the timing and intensity of the storms as we get a little closer. the coal air rushing in saturday, might see a stray shower that day but probably not. and then we'll see those temperatures coming down again, the colder air coming in with highs in the upper 50s both for saturday and sunday, warming up into the first of the next week.

let's look at the time morning. really looking beautiful. check out the colors in the sunrise. you would never know by looking at the pictures just how cold we were as we started the day. i was kind of imagining we were in the 70s just to try and make myself feel a little better but it's not the case. we were actually near 40 degrees in tampa bay this morning. if you have not been outside this morning it's a colder start than we were yesterday but we're warming up quickly. in clearwater beach we'll be warmer today than yesterday but the water temperatures is down to 57 degrees. plenty of sunshine through the day but we will have a cool breeze at our beaches. we will have warmer beach days ahead and i'll have more on that in florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. dan? back to you. we're going to try to get to this next story in a few minutes.

his mother broke down in tears just moments ago as she pleaded no contest to aggravated manslaughter of a child, a judge just sentencing her to 25 years in prison. with that plea deal she must testify against the father joseph walsh who is charged with second degree murder. breaking news from clearwater, police now are actively searching for be a elderly man whose life may be in danger. police say 82-year-old bob taylor suffers from multiple medical conditions, may have been wandering in the cold overnight. abc action news reporter adam winer joins us live from clearwater now, at the regency oaks south where that 82-year- old was last seen. adam? >> reporter: this is an assistive living facility and clearwater police say they are taking this very seriously, several detectives are on the case.

facility as they continue to investigate. there's a lot of urgency here especially because they believe it's possible this 82-year-old man, bob taylor, was wandering last night as temperatures dipped to near freezing levels. again that man, bob taylor, a family member called police around 6:00 yesterday evening when they couldn't find him. the family tells police that this man suffers from both alzheimer's as well as early dementia. his picture should be on the screen there now. police were literally going door-to-door yesterday evening and again today. there's a lot of fear for this man's safety. there was even a couple of helicopters and k-9 units from the hillsborough county sheriff's office last night helping in the ongoing search. here's clearwater police talking about the case. >> last night we visited businesses that would be open overnight, fast food restaurants, and gas stations and any other type of businesses taking fliers that

this morning we'll be doing that and visiting businesses that are open during daylight hours. >> reporter: that's happening now. we're told obviously if you've seen this man you're urged to call clearwater police and we've got that image on our abc action news facebook page. of course these are the fliers that police are handing out now in the clearwater community and other parts of pinellas county. police tell us that bob taylor lived here with his wife and right now they are just hoping -- the family hoping as well that somebody from the public will see him before it's too late. for now live in pinellas county, adam winer, abc action news. we're following a developing story from homestead in south florida. where police say they found a baby dead in his mother's freezer. an autopsy is planned to determine how that 4-month-old died. detectives say they are not charging the mother yet boning the outcome of an -- bending the outcome of an autopsy.

and barking dog credited with helping a family get out of a valrico house this morning. they need to find another place to stay now. crews still looking into how it started in the family garage. overnight, people in this sun city center home escaped after it caught fire. crews say this fire may have been electrical but are still looking into the exact cause. this time of year, it's so cold and a lot of people are using space heaters but you need to be very careful. >> yes. and we are at least going to be warming up. this is the coldest morning we're going to see here the next couple of days. so hopefully we'll see some imbreuvment and you'll get some relief from the cold temperatures. right now we're in the upper 30s still in inverness. crystal river at 40. in hillsborough county most of the temperatures are now in the mid-40s. to the south around manatee county, temperatures are in the mid to upper 40s. we are going to be topping out today in the mid-60s, the

suspects involved in two homicides from 2008 and also 2014. police arrested rashima pearson and kahim bennet in connection with the murder of earnest allen, killed in his home in december of 2008. police say the suspects were 15 and 16 at the time of the murder. police say they arrested sidney mells for a murder in 2014. 9:37. the dow is now plunging 280 points after the opening bell. wall street coming off a turbulent trading day tuesday that saw the dow and s&p finish with small gains. nasdaq slightly lower. those aggressive threatening calls you are getting, hang up. they are coming from scammers

happening today -- hundreds of students are at detroit. for the third time this month at least five schools are closed today because of a high number of teacher absences. announcement last month that they were closing the school today, that came shortly after the detroit news said a group called detroit teachers strike closings. teachers continuing their so- called sickout to protest work conditions and financial conditions. more than 60 district conceals schools were closed on january 11th because of an absence of steveers. a community college in portland, oregon, devoting all whiteness history. they say it's not a celebration, but to highlight racial inequality. relations are not a serious

seeing a thing, maybe a knew clouds throughout the day or overnight but nothing to bring us rainfall into tomorrow morning. so tomorrow temperatures are going to be a little bit above average in the afternoon. this morning we should have been starting the day around 52, we started it well below that. and our average high should be around 70. now one of the things i found interesting this morning as i was making all the graphics and doing the research, is that our average low has now come up a degree. so historically speaking, based on statistics, we should be starting to see warmer temperatures overnight building in. it's not happening though. in fact our warm-up this week doesn't last very long. even tomorrow morning a little below average, tomorrow afternoon up to 72. on friday that's when our next cold front comes through so the rain moves in, it looks at this point, it will come in, in the early afternoon, maybe the late morning.

rain and storms, then behind it the cooler air quickly moves in. we're back to 50 degrees as a low on saturday. with those gusty winds at times it's going to feel even cooler and we'll be topping out with the highs both on saturday and on sunday in the upper 50s. very little chance of rain saturday but i want to keep it in there so you're not surprised if you see a stray shower. otherwise a pretty dry weekend ahead just on the cooler than normal side. then those temperatures start coming back up pretty quickly to next week but we're still starting monday morning in the mifort d -- mid-40s in tampa. that means mid-30s likely in the suburbs to the north. that's florida's most accurate 7-day forecast. find me on facebook and twitter. back to you. do you put a lot of thought into your e-mail and phone passwords? >> yes. >> they are always changing, right? >> you have to stay on top of it. if you're in the market for a new one we're going to make sure you don't pick a bad one.

good morning, we're under two weeks away from what is considered the academy awards for nonprofits. among the nominees for the nonprofit of the year is starting now. helping homeless teens stay in school and out of trouble. and despair. >> when people come here they have hope, like, it's like a little push of motivation. they give you everything you need so you have to succeed. you have to go and do what you need to do. >> 100% of our kids the past three years have all gone to higher education with scholarships. >> without them i would not have passed high school. i'll admit that 100%. my teachers were really proud of me. they were really happy for me. they asked me what turned me around. and i told them starting right now. >> joining us in the studio with more we have the founder and executive director of starting right now, miss vicki. a wonderful example of why the

hillary rogers, a usf student at the college of public health. thank you for coming in. i know you're nervous but you know firsthand because starting now, you know how this could be for the organization. how are you feeling? >> it's so exciting for our team to be able to be recognized, that we're actually doing what we are doing and helping homeless teens. and if we're lucky enough to win the awards, what happens is it opens doors for so many people to know our organization from a community standpoint to be able to partner with other nonprofits and from a fundraising standpoint to help us get more information. >> hillary, you're a wonderful poster child i should say for the organization i should say. how old when you started? >> 18, now 22. >> what was it about the folks at starting right now that helped you?

school full time. and so they helped me get into a -- an apartment where i had a subsidized rent so i gave they helped me pay the full amount. it was a much stabler environment. i was closer to school, had a bus, before i didn't have a bus that came to my house. friend or -- however i could school. before i got the bus to school, they helped me not only develop as a student but a person. >> they provided you with that safety net that you talked so much about. >> she has an amazing mentor, because all our students have a one-on-one mentor. we were just in the office yesterday talking about her relationship with her mentor. >> that's wonderful. >> she said it's like having another mom. very cool. >> congratulations to both of you. we look forward to seeing more and hearing more about the programs and good luck.
