we begin tonight with breaking news. 80 million people bracing for a massive blizzard. >> tens of thousands already in the dark without power. i'm jamison uhler. >> i'm wendy ryan. this monster storm pounding in mid-atlantic. state of emergency up in down the east coast. right now it's washington, dc in the bull's-eye. stone already falling and it's predicted to be the biggest snowfall in 90 years. the mayor telling people the blizzard is a life-and-death situation urging everyone to stay indoors. a run on grocery stores, some shelves already bear as people stock up on enough food to get through the weekend. >> already proving deadly in

drivers sliding on icy streets. police responding to more than 200 crashes around nashville. nationwide at least nine drivers have died. in atlanta tonight, the mayor telling everyone to go home and stay home. crews from duke energy headed into the storm, driving to the carolinas where sleet and freezing rain are weighing down trees and power lines. in north carolina, nearly 100,000 homes have no power tonight. that number expected to climb over the weekend. dennis phillips tracking the storm right now. >> it looks like the heaviest weather will be sometime late tonight, probably 3:00 in the morning up until midday on saturday. you can see the very heavy snow right across the nation's capital up toward philly and new york. it is rain from norfolk up to richmond. snowfall accumulation so far in dc between five and six inches. the heaviest will be learned -- later on tonight where snow

in the left turn lane. a broken mirror, busted windshield and shoe, the signs left behind after a child was hit by a car. >> just trying to make it across before the light changed. >> reporter: surgeon mike lynch says to children were trying to cross the street around 530. traffic in three lanes was stopped for the red light, but the kids didn't notice the left turn lane. >> it appears the traffic was moving because of the green arrow. traffic flowing through the left turn lanes and would have given the impression it would have been possibly clear for them to run across and not see the vehicle in the lane. >> reporter: the driver that hit the middle coolest -- middle school student says she saw one of the kids but still -- couldn't stop in time to avoid the collision. >> he did witness his friend being struck. the child was thrown from the vehicle or off that vehicle and hit a parked car, a stopped vehicle at that location as well. >> the child was transported to

threatening injuries. police want to stress how important it is to cross at a crosswalk. >> all children ran across midblock, not at the intersection. that's something that we stress safety wise, that we always use crosswalks. >> reporter: both drivers stayed on scene, talked to police. no charges are pending saying this is just a tragic accident. michael paluska, abc action news. cameras rolling early this morning showing the victim walking on a sidewalk, you see the victim spotted a car bearing down. at the last second, he tries climbing a fence to save himself. but he does get hit by that car. the victim survives with only a broken leg. right now police are questioning a suspect but no one has been charged. a pinellas county team is falling -- facing felony charges. he brought a knife to the

to a girl then took his backpack to the school resource office. officials say they found a knife and a note with several names on it. the teen is charged with having a weapon on school property. that's a felony. update to a story we brought you at 530, four people are dead after a school shooting in saskatchewan canada. the suspect is in custody. details about the victims are limited at this time. canada tv reporting right now a second location is also being searched. a manhunt in pinellas county for a dangerous serial robber. the gunmen wanted for a string of violent holdups. a clerk telling abc action news reporter cameron poland what he did to survive. >> i was scared. eye-hand going to live. >> reporter: reginald jackson is a pitcher's mound of the day he hit another -- he and another coworker were held up at the circle k, it was no laughing matter. >> scared for his life.

wanted so he could go about his business. >> reporter: a frightening encounter. investigators say the man you see in this video is the same one that rob jackson. they believe he's responsible for a total of six armed robberies since september. >> the suspect is very brazen. at one point he even uses the hand gun in his hand and hits one of the clerks in the head. >> reporter: the suspect is quick to enter the store in the video. each time wearing a bandanna. even after he has already gotten the cash, and cigarettes. he attempts to break into a >> i believe he lives in the area because he's hitting the stores in this area and getting away with it. >> reporter: jackson believes he has seen him before in his store. he can say now he hopes to behind bars. action news. squatters turning condemned homes into the dense. fumes coming from a makeshift

this is the second time this mobile home has been turned into a meth lab. deputies say both times they have arrested jeffrey smith. this past week deputies found a sink full of used pipes and syringes and harmful chemicals throughout the interior. >> i had the worst headache of my life. felt like a truck had run into my head. i ended up in the hospital that week because of the fumes from the meth. >> it's scary to know that if something was to happen, that's my children's home. that's all we have. >> this is the second time over the past 18 months jeffrey smith has been found squatting at home. he was arrested and jailed on the same charges in 2014. residents say they want this mobile home bulldozed. a pasco county man in big trouble, deputies telling us a witness saw a robbery smith snapping pictures under an 11- year-old girl's skirt. abc action news spoke to the suspect cherry-pick marisela,

want to speak. he referred me to his attorney but he immediately started defending himself. >> deputies say a week ago, robin smith went to the wesley chapel goodwill and as he was shopping, stretched his right arm under an 11-year-old's dress. investigators spoke to a witness who told them she saw smith crackdown and she heard clicking sounds but that the kid had no clue. smith has been charged with video voyeurism, which is a felony. caught up with him at his home. thing. >> the police report says and i there but not taking pictures any stories that have been run absolutely incorrect. and the police report states

-- states that. that's all i have to say. thank you. >> reporter: the report says quote, during a noncustodial interview, the suspect admitted to taking pictures with his phone but not of the victim. according to authorities the victim's family says they don't know smith. >> you're supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. i've never had anything like this happen in my life. >> reporter: he kept stressing this is just an accusation and that he didn't admit to anything. >> i'm going to allow the system to run its due course. and exonerate me. i believe the evidence will do that. >> reporter: i did resent to the suspect attorney who told me he didn't have a comment because he has not had time to review that case. marisela burgos, abc action news. tonight the orlando police chief vowing never to give up on a missing tampa will who disappeared nearly 10 years ago. finished in 2006 after not showing up for work in orlando. after countless searches, officials have no suspects and no lead. jennifer's parents and orlando police holding in conference

the tell mike, mid-atlantic. look at the rain, as the storm gets stronger, it should draw in colder air but if you are doing the forecast and you're seeing this rain marching off to the north, you are watching it closely. but it should stay snow for them and it's already been snowing heavily from dc to philly, up to new york. no snow in new england. boston, providence up there, they are not going to get nearly the snowfall that folks are going to get around that philadelphia, dc, baltimore corridor right now. philly has had over three inches of snow with a lot more to come. for us, scattered showers, we had heavy storms around here this morning into the afternoon. now that cold air directly related to what's going on up north, is moving right in over the gulf of mexico. lake effect snows up north, cold air over lake erie, big storms and dixon was for us, cold air over the gulf, clouds and showers. we got it overnight tonight and

temperatures right now in the upper 50s, winds, look at this, gusting up to about 30 to 35 miles an hour tomorrow. there could be gusts as high as 40 miles an hour, which in a sense is tropical storm force. think about it. low 60s right now and partly cloudy skies across the area. a look at futurecast, overnight, there will be some coming on through. if you have an early-morning teatime, will be fighting the you will have a few scattered showers. not many. it will only rain for five minutes at any point in time. by mid-to-late morning, the winds shift a bit. i think we dry out a little bit. rest after the -- the rest of the afternoon should be partly sunny. we're talking wind chills, 30 mile an hour wind, don't feel like in the 20s and 30s. there be unusually cold air for us. sunday morning. across our northern counties. near freeze across the rest of the area.

temperatures, these are your high temperatures, check it out, low to mid 50s tomorrow. upper 40s for high temperatures across our northern counties. bottom line, we've got serious cold air to talk about over the next several days and then a slow warm-up early next week. look at florida's most accurate seven-day, rain chances about 20% first thing in the morning and then the rest of the weekend looks clear and cold, another area of storms rolls in, by the middle of next week, those could be happy. the bucs induct one of the all-time fan favorites into their ring of honor. and the bolts needs to extend that street -- extend that streak. now here's jimmy kimmel. >> proof that we really did do some work today. >> oh my god. the governments been hiding
