we have temperatures as low as 27 degrees in homassasa right now. the temperatures have been falling still in spots and may continue to through the next hour to hour and-a-half before they start coming back up. right now in inverness, 35 degrees, and as we look at hillsborough county temperatures are also in the 30s. westchase, 33 degrees, the same in lutz right now, tampa, 40 degrees. so again, there's a little bit of variation in temperatures but the bottom line is you're probably going to want that extra layer and bundle the kids up as they get ready for school this morning. temperatures will be up to near 60 by noon and then topping out in the mid to upper 60s. we have a couple of wet days ahead and i'll time out the rain and our next cold front coming up in florida's most accurate seven-day. right now loved ones are grieving in plant city as the search is on for a murderer.

shared her grief with adam weiner. adam joins us with an update on the investigation. the victim was killed in his own house, adam. >> reporter: that's right. family and friends found him inside his own house yesterday evening right behind me here. they hadn't heard from him since friday, and that's when they went to check on him. this is reginald brown junior, he's the victim in his case. this photos comes to us from his family. police here in plant city say it appears brown was shot to death in his home here on the 1300 block of ohio street yesterday. a forensic's team was here overnight, looking for evidence. they're trying to solve this horrible murder. mother. she talked about her son, about the horror of not only having to positively identify him but of losing her son. >> i went in there and it was a

mountains of snow are delaying you commuters and delayed commuter trains are sure to cause headaches for people who are headed back to work. over the weekend, more than two dozen people died as a result of the storm. in massachusettes, a person died after passing a plow truck, the plow truck slammed into him. in pennsylvania, a person got trapped inside his running car by a passing snowplow. in north carolina six people died in car accidents. this morning authorities are cautioning against unnecessary travel in the hardest hit places. federal workers are staying home again today in washington, d.c. as the cleanup there continues. today the nation's airports will try get back to normal after a weekend of thousands of cancelled flights and frustrated travelers. already, more than 1300 flights across the country are cancelled today. here on the ipad i pulled up flight statuses for tampa

right now the hunt is on for three inmates who escaped from a maximum security jail in southern california. all three were last seen at the jail friday morning. they were gone when the head count was taken friday night. they were serving time for separate cases involving murder, kidnapping and attempted murder. they made a rope to lower themselves down from the roof. >> the inmates cut through half inch steel bars to facilitate the information and evidence also suggests that the inmates cut their way through the plumbing tunnels and gained the roof. >> it's not clear how the inmates got ahold of the tools to cut through the bars. noticed for 16 hours until a

involving some other inmates. it's not clear if the fight might have been part of the escape plan. a community meeting to discuss a standoff at an oregon wildlife refuge will not go on as planned today. the judge cancelled the forum over safety concerns. the judge says he learned of plans to protest the meeting and even block the entrance of to be held. the judge says an open and honest conversation can't atmosphere. make sure you have your sunglasses on this morning and give yourself an extra moment to scrape off your windshield this morning. the temperatures are mainly in the 30s. in tampa it's more mild, in the low 40s. we will top out in the mid to upper 60s today, still on the cool and dry side. that will change this week.

news. a crash has closed westbound courtney campbell, a serious crash, this was a hit and run. two people were taken to the hospital. one person was ejected from the car you just saw. the entire bridge isn't shut down. cars are getting around on an access road. the crash happened east of the boat ramp. either way, expect some delays across the courtney campbell causeway. let's take a look behind me. you can see this is a live picture of the tampa side of the courtney campbell causeway. cars are heading across the bridge westbound. at last checked it took 12 minutes to get across the bridge. it's fairly early. as the morning commute pushes on and more cars hit the road we could see that drive time

right now the westbound lanes are technically closed. you can always use hillsborough to tampa road through oldsmar to as an alternate. the howard frankland and the gandy are looking great right now. the eastbound lanes of gandy boulevard at i-275 in the southbound lanes of i-275, actually the exit ramp, this a roadblock in the eastbound lanes. we're going to keep our eye on it and let you know if you need to take an alternate. your alternate would be to the south, 62nd avenue north. we'll be watching these crashes. if you're headed out the door right now, you are definitely heading out to some cold temperatures, frost advisory across much of the area and freeze warnings for citrus and hernando counties this morning where temperatures are at or below freezing across

40 degrees right now in tampa, 49 in st. pete, 34 in sarasota. we're definitely off to a chilly start. with clear skies, you may also find some frost this morning on your windshield. so give yourself an extra moment to scrape that off if you need to. and by 4:00 today, we're still under clear skies, lots of sunshine today and winds shifting from the east to the southeast. we are going to be warming up a bit. by tomorrow morning the cloud cover starts to increase and you can see a little bit of the eastern side of the state and into our interior counties. we really don't see any wednesday. that's when it's pretty much a washout. our next cold front approaches and it stalls out on top of us. the chance for any strong to but that can change. so again, we'll keep a close eye on this and keep you posted as we get closer. the great news for gasparilla

cars are using that to get around. you can still get across but it is slowing down a little bit. at last check it was taking about 13 minutes to get across the bridge. usually it takes nine minutes. if you're heading out right now, depending on where you're coming from and where you're going you can use the courtney campbell causeway. as more cars hit the road we could see backups on the bridge. the cars over here, the taillights are heading toward cheer water. they seem to be moving at a pretty good pace, no backups yet across the bridge. this is where the crash is. if you want to take an alternate you can always use one of the other bridges, the courtney campbell -- i mean the gandy or the howard frankland or you can take hillsborough through tampa road and oldsmar and get to clearwater that way. we're going to keep our eye on this. we have captain al headed that way. we'll get to in a minute.

pinellas, eastbound gandy boulevard at i-275, another serious crash here, a lot of emergency vehicles responding to this. you might wantto avoid this area. you can take 62nd avenue north to work your way around that crash. on the interstates, not too bad, this is i-75 through brandon, the cars headed south. as you can see, a typical congestion for the morning commute. 27 minutes from 275 to i-4 and 14 minutes from big bend to i- 4. let's check in with captain al. have you arrived at the courtney campbell? >> reporter: we are over the courtney campbell causeway. this accident as you said westbound approaching the boat ramp there. the westbound traffic that's on the courtney campbell is too wide, they're getting off on the frontage road and they're getting up to where the light

back on the courtney campbell westbound toward clearwater. there is going to be some backup. it's building a little bit. westbound is usually the slowest in the morning. you. forecast. >> in citrus county, you're under a freeze warning, the through 9:00. the sun is just starting to horizon. we've got another about 50 minutes before the sun actually comes up and starts to warm us up and right now in homassasa, 27 degrees, crystal river at 30. so it is definitely on the cold side to the north and very area. in hillsborough county we have temperatures nearing freezing around lutz, apollo beach at 36, tampa at 40. quickly. we're talking temperatures near 60 at noon and topping out in

this is a look at surveillance photos taken at a nearby business on 15th street east. the company sells lawn mowers and other equipment. detectives say someone shot and killed 31-year-old charles leonard in the parking lot of that business after he got into a fight with the suspects. deputies believe the suspects drove off in a red suv with chrome trim along the bottom. today, tampa's mayor, tampa's police chief and the league of women voters will come together to say they are against open carry. there are 1.5 million concealed carry permit holders across the sunshine state. we have a crime alert for websites. in the past month, four women have been robbed, some carjacked and threatened with a gun or other weapons. they say the women met the men

>> reporter: we have a traffic causeway. westbound courtney campbell approaching the boat ramp is closed completely, both lanes. they're getting them off at the access road. it's not a huge backup, maybe a quarter mile. westbound is not that busy in the mornings. so west hillsborough, if you're headed to north pinellas or the howard frankland into the middle of pinellas might be about the same delay, it may be 15 minutes to he get through the access road and continue through clearwater. it's just about a wash from the time it takes you to take one of those alternates.

if you're going to wait an hour, you might want to choose another route. here's janelle with more traffic. we're going to check out the alternates for you. the courtney campbell, we don't know how long it's taking to get across into the pinellas county area. but seven minutes across the howard frankland and six across the gandy. those two bridges are moving great right now. we do have a new crash to tell you about in hillsborough, eastbound hillsborough avenue at memorial highway. there is some roadblock reported in the eastbound lanes, a little bit of a slowdown here. this is a really busy intersection in the morning. you might want to consider taking you waters. i'll keep my eye on this and let you know as soon as that clears. also want to mention the sunshine skyway, we have lingering construction in the northbound lanes. take a look at this. cars are going single file across the bridge. we are seeing a slight delay

we can show you exactly how long it's taking to get from toll booth to toll booth, 16 minutes. keep that in mind if you're headed to the sunshine skyway, you might want to leave a little bit early. if you're heading outside right now you're going to notice it's cold out there. >> we'll be warmer this yesterday. take a look at the gorgeous sunrise. the sun doesn't officially come up until 7:20 this morning, so it will still be a little bit before those temperatures start heading up. look at how cold we are to the north right now. crystal river at 30 degrees, brooksville at 31. so in citrus and hernando county we have a freeze warning in place through 9:00 this morning and temperatures throughout the rest of tampa bay in the suburbs are in the 30s to about 40 degrees in tampa, st. pete is our warmest spot at 49. still pretty chilly.

the winds are rather light today. our next cold front moves into the area on wednesday. looks like a washout that day and then this front just stalls on top of us on thursday and with an area of low pressure developing, that's going to continue to bring our rain chances on to the high side through thursday. it won't be quite as wet on thursday, it will be hit or miss, but still high chances for rain that day. the cooler air settles in on weekend ahead. gasparilla looking great for the invasion around 11:30 in the parade at 2:00, temperatures will be in the low the festivities into the evening, the forecast looks dry and on the cool side.

clear the streets for commuters in the wake of the massive blizzard this weekend. check out this drone video out buried in snow. here's a look at the spots that weekend. you can see on this map, new york city was one of the hardest hit areas, nearly 27 inches of snow. that's a record. inches. west virginia received the biggest hit, a whopping three and-a-half feet of snow. washington, d.c.'s official total was a foot and-a-half. that may be because the team of weather observers at reagan national lost the snow measuring device midway through the blizzard. more than two dozen people died over the weekend inned clouding a new jersey family. they were poisoned by carbon monoxide.

or the howard frankland bridge might be a better alternative for the time being. here's janelle with more traffic. the howard frankland is looking great. these cars here with the taillights, just about six minutes to get across right now. even coming into tampa, the busy side of the bridge not so bad either, less than 10 minutes to get across the howard frankland and all three bridges from pinellas to hillsborough county. there is a delay on the sunshine skyway northbound due to lingering construction. delay there. the average speeds on the interstates are normal for this time of the morning, slow going looking great on 275 once you get over the sunshine skyway, 66 miles an hour your average howard frankland. as you head out the door this morning, you are going to want to bundle up.
