right now on the now tampa bay, the first real test for the presidential candidates. we'll show you what's going to happen in iowa tonight. and three reasons even though you live in florida, you care what happens in that safe. plus, how this surfer made out after falling 40 feet. that's twice as far as from where i am to the first floor. plus the topical commuting jobs hiring now allowing you to work from home. and at 30 years old, he almost

stand with the voters. what exactly is the iowa caucuses? >> reporter: later this evening iowa will be the first in the country to express their sentiments. let's start with the easier of the two, the republicans. tonight gop supporters will go to their site and hear one more time about why they should choose one, then make a selection on paper. for the democrats, it's more complicated. supporters show up and they stand in a room for their candidate. if my candidate doesn't get 15 spotty showers, the campaign is considered nonviable and it's
4:03 pm
now i have to choose a candidate and people in these groups want me. at the end of the night, they count who's in each corp. corner and determines how many delegates each candidate gets to go to the conventions. >> thank you. many of you at home have been wondering, how does what happen in iowa affect us here. adam weiner is joining us from largo with this. why is it so important? >> reporter: up until this point, everything we have heard about the election has been polling and speculation. the first time we get to hear from the voters about what they think act these issues. and oftentimes the campaigns come to an end after iowa and
4:04 pm
in a lot of case, the full array of candidates we have seen may not be there by the time florida gets to vote. >> we have jeb bush and marco rubio from florida but not really leading in the pack. might they drop out before florida can get a chance to vote? >> reporter: certainly possible, but unlikely. one, they are still getting pretty well in the polls and they have a lot of money and have the big incentive of here like pinellas county, they know they will get a lot of votes here in florida. they also know this is a winner take all state. if they win florida and other states in the south, that gives them a lot of momentum moving forward. i bet voters can still pick them when they come around.
4:05 pm
things differently, florida has a closed primary. can you explain that? >> reporter: that's right. a lot of people including myself have done this in other places. if you're not registered with the republicans or democrats, then this primary, you're not included in. if you want to be included, you have to get registered and do february 16th is the deadline. you have to get in. there are no exceptions, no bending the rules. you can't show up in march and register for this. you have to be registered in advance. if you want to be in the primary rounds, you have to pick a party and do it soon. you can do it on any of the county elections. i think votepinellas is the one
4:06 pm
and you can see there if you're already registered. >> thank you. while most delegates are bound to vote for one candidate based unbound delegates an superdelegates who can vote for whoever they want. >> what's so hard about this? politics is really difficult. know that iowa is setting the tone for this election. you're talking about the democrats sending 52, republicans sending 30. don't worry about that. the number varies by state. 246
4:07 pm
nationwide there are about 2500 republicans and 4500 democrats. in order to win, a candidate must get half the party's total delegates plus one. the primary is like the caucus but done with traditional places and ballots. march 1st, 14 primaries held then, culminating in july when the parties tell you who their candidate will be for the november ballots. and according to police,
