cash. and, on thin ice. the lakeside parking lot that was actually the lake. the hazardous scene that drivers came back to, when their cars broke through the ice. good evening. thanks for joining us on this sunday. i'm tom llamas. tonight, a critical moment in the race for the white house. the new hampshire primary just two days away. and some of the candidates have to finish big or go home. republicans on the stage for last night's abc news debate in manchester. repeated blows to marco rubio, aiming to stop his momentum. that may have shielded donald trump from attacks, but it didn't stop him from attacking. even when the audience booed him. let's begin with david wright. >> i like marco rubio, and he's a smart person and a good guy, but he simply does not have the experience to be president of the united states.

marco-mentum ran smack into chris christie. >> you have not been involved in a consequential decision where you had to be held accountable. >> reporter: marco rubio didn't exactly help himself. fiction that barack obama doesn't know what he's doing. >> reporter: by getting stuck in his own talking points. doesn't know what he's doing. it's just not true. >> there it is. the memorized 25-second speech. there it is, everybody. >> reporter: trotting out the same well-practiced line four times. >> you're getting pounded for repeating that speech. >> well, look, we raised more money last night in the first hour of that debate than any other debate. >> reporter: today, rubio did his best to ignore the headlines. >> oh, you said the same thing three or four times. i'm gonna say it again. >> reporter: but, it was a red flag for some of the voters attending his event. >> marco should have been better prepared. >> he's a young senator just like obama was. i'm not so sure he's ready. >> reporter: so something like this raises questions for you. >> yes.

insofar as it hurts rubio, it is not necessarily chris christie that benefits. it may have helped john kasich. he was above the fray, with a positive message you could see resonating in new hampshire. >> jon, does trump get any type of boost going into the primary? >> it seems that trump solidified his front runner status tome. nobody really touched him. you saw jeb bush tried. but he seemed as confident as ever today, and if this is possible, even more confident. >> thank you. and the democrats, hillary clinton traveling to flint, michigan, standing with those suffering from the water crisis. and bernie sanders, all smiles in new hampshire, fresh off his comedy turn in new york. cecilia vega, following

new hampshire on tuesday, and full coverage of the results tuesday night. and we turn to the scary scene in london, the quiet shattered by this explosion. so chilling because of terror attacks on buses before. but when the dust settled, the word got around, that moment was made in hollywood. jennifer eccleston, reporting in from london. >> reporter: an iconic double-decker bus, crossing a bridge, suddenly bursting into flames. debris flying into the air. >> oh, my god! >> reporter: the scene, so realistic, so terrifying. many didn't know what was happening. >> it was quite a drama. >> reporter: author sophie kinsella was at a nearby playground with her kids this morning. >> it thought it was possibly a major event. >> reporter: but the explosion on london's lambeth bridge, just a stunt for action star jackie chan's new film, "the foreigner."

camera. clearly aware it was staged. the production team sent out this flyer alerting the public, saying, "the explosion is controlled." but not everyone was informed. bringing back memories of the other time a london bus was targeted, the deadly terror attacks in the summer of 2005. some finding the similarity insensitive. city officials reassured the public the explosion was just a stunt, but in these times of heightened terror fears, even fiction can hit too close to home. tom? >> jennifer, thank you. turning now to taiwan, where new drone images tonight of the extensive damage caused by the 6.4-magnitude quake. crews searching for survivors. they believe 100 people are

thank you. and we're going to turn to an ivy league school rocked by the president of a fraternity at charged with attempted rape. >> reporter: tonight, the president of an elite ivy league fraternity is in jail, accused of sexually assaulting a female student on campus. 21-year-old wolfgang ballinger, president of psi upsilon at cornell university, surrendering to police four days after the alleged attack. the college junior, seen here in this youtube video talking about his goals. >> at a young age i was taught to appreciate hard work and especially self-made worth. >> reporter: ballinger, whose father owns a famous new york club, is charged with three felony counts. >> the speed in which the case was taken from the university

setting, shows the prosecution believes they have a strong case. >> reporter: according to court documents, the alleged victim claims ballinger tried forcing himself on her in his fraternity house bedroom "several times," despite her saying, "i don't want to." in a statement to abc news, ballinger's attorney denies the accusations, saying, "wolfgang ballinger is not guilty of the charges that have been filed against him." cornell university president elizabeth garrett released this statement, after suspending the fraternity. "sexual violence has no place at cornell. we will be considering what additional steps should be taken to ensure the greek community at cornell is living up to our institutional standard of excellence and respect for others." a sentiment shared by students on campus. >> it's not representative of us as a community or school. >> reporter: wolfgang remains in custody. waiting his next court date on tuesday. tom? >> thank you. and in new york city, that massive crane that crashed down has been removed.

retirement homes around houston. with the shake of a hand and a bounce in their step, watch as the women appear to sweet-talk their way into this apartment at the hallmark retirement community. >> they're very smooth. said they were the granddaughter of one of my other residents, so she let them in. >> reporter: the retirement home says the women claimed to be collecting money for a band trip. minutes later, they come out of the apartment, with a $250 check, and a victory dance. later, the resident had second thoughts and cancelled the check. so far, the pair has stolen hundreds of dollars from seniors. police, reminding the public, always ask for an i.d., before giving money to solicitors. >> our goal is to get this stopped. we want to protect our residents. >> reporter: photos of the pair, now splashed across the walls of the hallmark, where officials hope the alleged thieves who were caught on camera, will soon be caught for real. aditi roy, abc news, los angeles. >> and we thank aditi for that
