thompson is charged with simple battery after clearwater police say he made a series of mistakes. >> he could have handled it differently. >> reporter: the police spokes person says he was at the mall to pick up his son from his estranged wife. and he said during the child exchange he said he had to use the restroom. >> he basically tells us he accidentally went into the women's restroom at macy's and while he was in there the little girl apparently had come in as well, she was in her stall. >> reporter: in a statement to abc action news the father says his 6-year-old daughter just learned about stranger danger. seeing a strange man in the ladies' room sparked her cry for help and thompson reacted. >> instead of doing a million different other things like maybe leaving or going to talk to her parent he chose to put his hand over her mouth to try to calm her to get her not to scream and create a raucous.

thompson took off. after seeing his picture blasted all over town he contacted detectives and drove down from his home to give a statement. >> our detectives don't have reason to believe he's making this up because the girl wasn't injured. >> reporter: michael paluska, abc action news. 4:34. good news on a florida amber alert you may have gotten on your known yesterday. police say they found a stolen car with a missing 10-month-old girl safe inside. officers say they are still looking for the man that took the mother's car parked outside of a fort lauderdale laundromat. the woman said she was dropping off laundry and left the motor running. questions raised after several central florida officers shot into the wrong house. winter garden police responded to a domestic call but wrong house. the armed homeowner says they didn't identify themselves after banging on his door.

gun and fired into the house. no one inside was hurt. sarasota county detectives need your help to identify the driver that killed a man on a bike and kept going. detectives pulled video from a red light camera at north washington boulevard and sarasota. deputies say the car with the red circle hit skyler sandovar as he rode his bike on highway 301 and the driver drove off. investigators say it's a four- door metallic gray toyota corolla. the father says the accident devastated the family. >> i was in shock. i was just -- couldn't believe that -- that he's not with us anymore. >> family and friends are planning to celebrate skyler's life saturday at 11:00 in bradenton. this morning the law firm morgan & morgan is suing monster energy drink claiming the high caffeine content led

reminder in florida you have just one week left to register to vote or change your party affiliation for the march 15th presidential primary. it's been nearly five years since casey anthony went on trial accused of killing her daughter and this morning we're learning she's starting her own business. state records show anthony started a company called case photography in west palm beach. the picture shows her with a camera in her hand. the business is registered to the address of that man there in that picture. he's the lead private investigator who worked on anthony's defense team during her 2011 trial. a jury acquitted anthony of murder but did find her guilty of lying to police. let's check with ivan. it's really chilly outside. >> national weather service advisory.

44:3. passengers on the royal caribbean anthem of the seas captured this video of massive 25-foot waves from their cabins after that ship encountered hurricane-force winds. the anthem of the seas was set to make a stop in port canaveral before heading to the bahamas but the huge waves as you see left damage thought the ship. it's now returning to its home port in new jersey. the cruise line is promising passengers a full refund but senator bill nelson is calling on the nats to investigate. investigate. a winter storm is not finished with the east coast. parts of new jersey and northern new england could get up to 8 inches by tonight. that storm will affect new hampshire this morning where voters are casting ballots in the first in the nation presidential primary. the good news, the snow should be light and fluffy. i guess it makes shoveling a little easier.

that same system, that same storm, the one that caused the significant seas out there and the hurricane-force winds. at this point we just have a boundary moving through the northeast and we get a little more snow but the worst is going to be over for them, for us, we are on the back side of that storm and what has come here are the winds, we have through. another cold front last night, so yes, it's blustery and we are not going to move temperatures all that much. we're in the 50s now, that is pretty much where we're going to stay. as far as titan doppler, quiet now, we'll watch this because again a couple of showers are possible through the early morning hours and in through the midday hours as we get that strong flow off the gulf. any time you get a wind off the water you can't really shut off rain chances, despite the fact the atmosphere is pretty dry we could squeeze out some showers so we'll watch for that coverage at 20%. then again the story here, the gusty winds, which will make

like 50s, temperatures holding in the 50s, sustained winds 20 to 25 this afternoon, gusts 35, perhaps as high as 40. we saw that overnight. there's sarasota checking in at 35, the highest wind gust. of course that lake wind advisory that continues in effect, begins at 11:00 and 6:00 p.m. no business boating along the gulf, bays or area lakes, you will get flipped over if you are operating small craft with the winds. tomorrow morning the story is more cold but the temperatures will be actually colder, the winds will be strong and that combination will make it feel miserable in the morning. as far as the extended forecast, we'll try to warm up a little. we're going to do so but ever so slowly so by friday we'll finally get back to the upper 60s. still below normal but closer to where we should be for this time of year. that continues into the early part of the weekend. let's check the roads on this early tuesday morning. live look at i-275 near busch boulevard.

women attending the university of central oklahoma are likely double checking to make sure their windows are locked after a stranger crept through a sorority's unlocked window over the weekend. 2:00 sunday morning one of the students woke up to find a stranger sitting on the edge of her bed. when officers got there they found 41-year-old randall scott ashton on the balcony. apparently had been sifting through the girls' laundry trying to steal panties. >> that would freak me out. that is scary. >> yeah. they should get high-tech quality security in there or something. >> none of the women in the sorority house were hurt. scott is charged with burglary and one count of indecent exposure for dropping his pants hours earlier in a grocery store. tampa bay rays are thinking spring. this morning clubhouse staff will load up the team truck with equipment and supplies needed for spring training. rays pitchers and catchers are set to report at charlotte
