rodney dunigan joins us live outside the courthouse. rodney, any idea when allison huffman is expected in court? >> reporter: that hearing is set for 1:30 this afternoon, huffman was booked into the county jail last night behind me and in a matter of hours she'll be walked from the county jail to the county courthouse a few steps away to face charges. also this morning we're getting a first look at her latest mug shot. she's become officially charged with leaving the -- been officially charged with leaving death. she was caught last night at an apartment complex in st. pete after a daylong search. investigators believe she drove off after hitting tow truck driver roger perez on the howard frankland just before rush hour on monday morning. perez was helping a stranded happened. huffman's damaged car was found not far from the accident hotel. we've also learned that huffman has a long history of trouble with the law with a number of

woodrin was driving a truck on i-4 in polk city, hit a cable barrier in the median and flipped the truck. this is a live picture from the scene. still an active investigation. traffic is moving now but there is a bit of a backup. his passenger was killed in the crash, the only information we have on him is that he was a 48-year-old man from titusville. we will continue to bring you any updates as we get them. we have some new information on two murder cases we're tracking throughout the bay area. starting in hillsborough county, where deputies are just revealing to us that two people, we're about to show you may have known a man killed over the weekend in a parking lot near usf. deputies think these guys, efrom rosado and jeffrey dejesus may know about the murder. michael fuentes body found on sycamore court off bruce b downs.

revealing how he died. in manatee county where deputies are identifying this suspected murderer. investigators looking for ahmad dunbar, they they i may be involved with the murders of carl tuxford and jordan finland. you'll remember the pair with a found dead minutes apart -- were found dead minutes apart last month. two other suspects are behind bars, detectives believe they wanted revenge on the victims for armed robbery. we're trying to get an estimate on how much damage a tornado caused when ripping through escambia county overnight. the storms that you heard last night or early this morning damaged dozens of homes and businesses near pensacola. overnight crews searched debris looking for people trapped. the thunderstorm also knocked out power for tens of thousands of people in the area. four pensacola schools are closed now, because they don't have any power. overnight in our area a lot of folks lost power as well but things have cleared out. >> they've cleared out dramatically as we expected

we're looking at a lot of sunshine. titan doppler radar pretty quiet now. widening out the view though we really did luck out. we always knew it would be a high threat towards the panhandle with the tornado but we had potential touchdowns in south florida here so in the middle, we were kind of spared. we had some gusty winds and obviously the power outages but we did fairly well compared to our friends up to the north and south. temperatures now in the low to middle 60s so we're on our way. by the time we he fet to your lunchtime 71, we'll take that. a lot of sunshine and low 70s. low humidity as well. will that continue? we'll talk about the weekend forecast coming up. first one last check with janelle who has been unbelievably busy with the rain, fog and the crashes. >> we have a new crash on the howard frankland, the good news, they just got this pushed to the side. you can see it here in the southbound lanes. this is just before you get to the hump so it's not blocking any lanes now.

it's taking just 11 minutes to get across so not too bad for this time of morning. where the backups really are is i-4 along that fatal crash that happened earlier this morning that we just mentioned, traffic still backed up through polk county here, we're seeing about a 5-minute to 10-minute delay so you want to leave early if you are heading westbound on to -- on i-4. here's what it looks like on the majors, very slow on the veterans, 24 miles an hour, average speed from van dyke to 275. slow going on 275 southbound, looking not too bad on i-75 to you. right now the red cross is assisting a couple in their 80s after a fire tore through their mobile home early this morning. that fire started just after 4:00 this morning at the home on winter drive. you can see the flames rising up out of the roof of the house and luckily the couple who lived inside was able to get out safely. firefighters still investigating what may have sparked it.

overnight of a raging house fire in northport. rescuers say the homeowner got out of this coca road safely before the flames broke out -- after, rather. they broke out 11:00 last night but the damage is so extensive it's not safe to live there. in a few hours florida congressman david jolle ye is going to lay out his new plan to help people across the country with disabilities. he plans to take a florida law national. we're sending a news crew to his announcement in st. pete today. check four updates on our evening newscast starting with "the now" at 4:00. an attorney for former new york governor eliot spitzer says the former governor didn't assault a woman at a new york hoe temperaturele lawyer says that woman wanted to see spitzer before returning to her home country of russia. she claims spitzer choked and shoved her while arguing over her travel plans. she left on a plane sunday, didn't press charges. spitzer resigned as governor in 2008 amid revelation that's he

9:12. new information about this man here. this is the man that police say walked into an ohio restaurant last week with a machete and then randomly started attacking people inside. police have identified the attacker as 30-year-old mohammed barry from guinea. investigators say it's still very early in the investigation and right now don't know why he did it. one official does say information connected to the registration of the car that he drove triggered an alert that required contacting the local terrorism task force. 12 people were hurt in the attack. barry killed by police. the restaurant just reopened for business yesterday. a case about the extreme hazing of a tennessee high school student is heading to a grand jury. a judge ruled there's enough probable cause to proceed with charges against three attend high school officials. the trio appeared in court yesterday, pleaded not guilty to allegations they failed to

school basketball players by teammates. state law says all forms of child abuse including sexual abuse must be reported immediately. the school's basketball coach already has been reassigned to a different position, police have also charged three players with the aggravated rape of one player. new today, pope francis is spending his last full day in mexico since arriving last friday. meanwhile, one of the pope's top advisors is commenting about sex abuse in the catholic church. boston cardinal sean o'malley says bishops have a "quote moral and ethical responsibility to report all cases of sex abuse to police." the comments go beyond the current guidelines for bishops from the vatican. failure of turning them over to police is one of the reasons the church's abuse scandal grew to what it did. sexual abusers were moved from parish to parish rather than turned in to police. a planned parenthood clinic

injuries, no tornadic storms that rolled through. that happened in the panhandle as we talked about. also down in south florida they are going to have to investigate perhaps a touchdown there across portions of north miami beach. and another one florida highway patrol reported that in collier county along 75, alligator alley. there's the front, there's the clearing line. it's a sharp divide as we widen out the view. this is the storm system that is impacting the north with some snow here, the intended cold front is slicing through our area now and now we're just tapping into a northwest flow, it will mean dry for us and slightly cooler, the air mass behind it not that cold. so tonight, just back to where we should be for this time of year. low 60s now. low 70s as we head through the afternoon. then heading into tonight looks good as well. lots of sunshine out there, with temperatures for this time of year low 70s for highs. low 50s for lows. that's where we should be and where we're going to be. northwesterly winds behind the

what a difference it is from what we saw earlier this morning. huge difference. it's how fast the system is moving through. mostly clear skies at this time. titan doppler radar, this is not how it looked overnight. right now we're quiet. as we widen out the shot you can see this is about a six- hour loop. we went from heavy rain over the bay area and now it's well down to the south, about in fact to clear south florida. and because of the fast clearing we were able to get sunshine, and in fact we have it now with temperatures in the low to mid-60s. not stopping there. getting back to the low 70s later this afternoon. your photos, this coming in with a nice sunrise, thanks, in the speed area, look at the high clouds behind the frontal boundary rolling in. that is how early things began to clear as we got a little sunshine in the morning. at this point we're done as far as any cloud cover, any rainfall certainly and we are

of today with upper 60s to lower 70s. can we hang on to it? more coming up. new video as florida highway patrol troopers catch the woman they say hit and killed a tow truck driver on the howard frankland yesterday morning. then drove off. we brought you this as breaking news yesterday. we heard allison huffman had been found and now is headed to court. accused of killing roger perez, a husband and father, who just loaded a disabled car into his killed. his family tells us he has a wife and child in venezuela. huffman's car was found at the crowne plaza hotel area shortly after the crash. troopers say huffman has a long history of dui arrests in hillsborough county. friends of the victim now want to know why she still had a license. >> i don't care if her license was validated or not? why are we so lenient?

being done -- dead? >> police say huffman used an alias to get a taxi to the hard rock casino. right now hillsborough county family safe after their garage caught fire early this morning. >> the fire happened at a home on laurel brook court and riverview just before 6:30 this morning. fire officials say a car in the garage caught fire. one person in the home got up in time, smelled the smoke and quickly alerted the three others in the home, all four made it out safely. luckily hillsborough county was able to battle the flames quickly and keep it from spreading to the rest of the house. neighbors say they heard a pop followed by screams coming from the home. >> i heard something pop out here by my garage door so when i opened the garage door that is when the neighbors were across the street yelling at us to get out. >> no one was hurt. what caused that car to catch fire is still under investigation. covering citrus county, we checked overnight and found out a man accused of cyberstalking

later this morning. deputies believe william beagle used different phone numbers and social media sites to keep reaching out to those women even after they blocked him. investigators say he threatened the women, in fact one victim told investigators he threatened to stab her. his mom says her son was set up. >> three different women? i mean, is he looking to go to prison? he's -- all i know, he wouldn't hurt a fly, i know. that but i mean -- after what happened in illinois, having been charged with something like that i can't see him doing something like that again. >> beagle was also charged with violating probation for an aggravated stalking case. his mom said that happened out of state and says her son wasn't guilty of that one either. this morning a 21-year-old woman is accused of stabbing a man at tampa's sulfur springs park. ashlee weathers started to argue with the man under the sidewalk on i-275 yesterday. police say she tried to kick

him twice with a small pocket knife. he's in the hospital recovering in stable condition. police say the victim and suspect are acquaintances, and are both homeless. in hours a man will learn how honk he will spend in prison for abusing his son to horribly, that 3-year-old died. justin garwacky took the stand against his ex-girlfriend to escape a life sentence. life week a jury found cara o'connell guilty of manslaughter. they both face up do 30 years in prison. in democracy 2016 -- the presidential candidates pull out not so secret weapons to try to get ahead in the campaigns. >> former florida governor jeb bush hoping to boost support after his brother joined him in south carolina. here's what former president bush had to say about the election. >> there seems to be a lot of name calling going on but i want to remind you what our good dad told me one time. labels are for soup cans. >> he didn't mention donald

but went on to say how the country needs a president with humility. at the rally former president bush said he understands that americans are angry and frustrated and that the country needs someone who won't just mirror those emotions. he said jeb bush would be measured and thoughtful on the world stage. meanwhile, donald trump is threatening to file a lawsuit against gop rival ted cruz. he's challenging cruz' eligibility to serve in the white house. because he was born in canada. trump wants the texas senator to stop airing what trump calls false ads and retract what the campaign calls his lies. leading up to this weekend the south carolina primary, trump called cruz "the most dishonest guy i think i've ever met in politics." cruz was born in canada to an american mother, most legal experts say he's qualified to run for president. on the democratic side, hillary clinton trying to brand bernie sanders as a single issue candidate before voting starts in nevada and scarym.

in the florida keys a man under arrest after deputies say he took his back hoe on a joyride across the 7 mile bridge. officials say 359-year-old carl balmin was dumping bowrmingdz on u.s. 1 in morning, according to deputies he damaged the road and sides of the bridge. at one point deputies had to leave the bridge altogether for their own safety. the joyride finally ended when he hit spikes in the road. now facing multiple charges. 9:38. still ahead, a high speed chase with an unexpected bump in the road. the suspect launched into the air. >> and uber for kids. the new app designed to help parents get their kids from point a to point b, how the company is working to prove its service is not only convenient

today the coast guard will try and figure out who is to blame for the sinking of the el faro last fall. we reported for months that cargo ship set sail during hurricane joaquin and sank near the bahamas killing all 33 members on board. a series of hearings in jacksonville starts today. they will work to determine whether misconduct, negligence

to the disaster. the el faro's missing black box data recorder could answer a lot of the questions, a second search for it is still in the works. this morning we're seeing the wild ending to a police chase in idaho. the suspect's vehicle, rolling over sending him flying into the air and landing in a cloud of dust. this happened in april of last year but idaho state police just released this video. police started to chase the suspect after he rammed his truck into a police cruiser during a traffic stop. that many eventually as you -- man eventually as you see lost control. dash cam video shows the tire and suspect flying through the air. believe it or not he was ok, tried running from the scene but he was quickly arrested. he pleaded guilty to three felonies and was sentenced to 15 years in prison last december. massachusetts-based company launching a new app that is basically going to become an uber for kids. >> it's created by a former verizon wireless executive who is the father of two children.

as much as an inch and-a-half. and across portions of polk county. two inches, maybe that's overdone but you get the idea. heavy rain and along with that severe weather though for us certainly not as bad as they had in the panhandles and as bad as they had in south florida as well. look how quickly it's moving the front now continues to push to the east. attached to the low that is bringing snow to the north. we don't have to worry about that at this point. all that headed to the east and we're in for i think fantastic weather the next few days. low to mid-60s now. winds southwest change over to the northwest as the actual front moves through. it's to the north and west but that will move through dry, the actually front itself. so low, mid-60s now. going for 70s for later on today. we'll do that with sunshine, low humidity as well. if you're on vacation, you picked a good one. sunshine through today and tomorrow and the day after that. not only that but we're -- we have mild temperatures along

our abc action news laura harris is shining her cowgirl boots and getting ready for saturday's cattle barron's ball to benefit the american cancer society. the signature event is back in a new venue after a yearlong hiatus. it's been moved to the waterworks park on the beautiful hillsborough river in the area of tampa heights. the outdoor event will help fund the american cancer society's local programs, for example, road to recovery, offering free rides to and from treatment. also the hope lodge program providing free lodging for cancer patients, having to travel for treatments. and also the program reach to recovery that connects newly diagnosed breast cancer patients with survivors, a huge opportunity for support this. these are just a few of the local service programs that are funded by the american cancer society. it's certainly a party with a very big purpose. joining us with more in our studios, welcome to mr. dan johnson who is the chair of the

the serious stuff. which is what the money is used for. you think folks really understand the level of the service that the american cancer society provides? >> it's amazing. the services that are provided. it's really about raising awareness for the american cancer society. and helping people to stay well, helping people that have cancer to get well. >> one of the things that i've talked about in my own family's experience is how important that road to recovery program is. but there are many others that you don't have to take diagnosis. you have prevention programs as >> absolutely. the american cancer society is all about education, and it's educating people in how to go and get prescreened so we can avoid some of the cancers that are out there. and then once a diagnosis is made that there are availability for not only cancer patients themselves but caregivers to help them to know what to do when cancer comes.
