at 9:00 -- breaking news from manatee county. palmetto police on the scene of a road rage case escalating to gunfire. >> officers say the driver got upset and shot at another vehicle. abc action news anchor lindsay logue is live where authorities captured the suspected gunman. it's really bizarre where they found him. >> reporter: they say they caught up with the guy at this 7-eleven in sarasota. in fact take a look at this, this silver toyota corolla, this is the suspect's vehicle. still parked here at this 7- eleven. this whole thing happened about

301 in palmetto. police there say the guy got into a road rage incident with another vehicle. and fired shots at that vehicle in palmetto. while the suspect continued south on u.s. 301, figured he was far enough away, it was safe to pull into the 7-eleven for coffee, by then palmetto police alerted manatee county deputies to be on the lookout for the car and a deputy happened to be at the same intersection at the 7-eleven. got out of his vehicle, questioned the driver and detained him until police arrived. the victims weren't actually shot but you can imagine the terrifying and rattling morning to have been fired at, and bullets lodged into their vehicle. they were taken down here to the 7-eleven to identify the vehicle, to positively identify the person they say is the shooter. palmetto police arrested that man this morning. he's right now on his way to jail. we expect an update later this morning from the police

and the suspect in this case but certainly a bizarre incident unfolding in manatee county. we're going to post breaking updates all morning long, so follow us. live in sarasota, lindsay logue, abc action news. we turn to breaking news update from haines city where officials are investigating what caused a fire at a church there. >> flames engulfed the baraca first haitian baptist church this morning. corey dierdorff live at the scene, gathering updates all morning, what do you know at this hour? speaking with several parishioners that have been out idea of what happened here last i'm going to show you a little of the damage to the church, it's a total loss. they said it was about 15 to 30 night, one of the pastors walked outside, looked up and saw the roof of the church was on fire. he quickly rushed inside and

as they came out the fire kept growing and firefighters having a little trouble getting into that fire that was up in the attic, as you can see from this picture that the roof completely collapsed, because of a tongued roof ceiling, that is basically a wood planked ceiling that intersected so they had trouble getting in and knocking the fire out. this church the center of the haitian community and lots of heavy hearts. we'll bring you an update as soon as we get it on air and on- line at abcactionnews.com. live in haines city, corey dierdorff, abc action news. 9:03. updating breaking news from bradenton. deputies just identified the man shot this morning, we learned 30-year-old shane lowler survived two gunshot wounds and they are looking for at least two suspects. we're making calls to the manatee county sheriff's office for a description of the suspects. and we'll update you when we

michigan. two planes full of passengers are damaged after one clips the other on the tarmac in detroit. american airlines just confirming one of its plane's wings struck the tail section of the southwest plane. officials say the collision happened when that boeing 737 was taxying away from the gate for takeoff. no one was injured, both planes now out of service and the investigation into how this happened continues. we now know the name of the man killed in yesterday's deadly crash on i-4 that backed up traffic for hours. 48-year-old tyrone bryant from titusville was killed, a passenger in the truck that 26- year-old darryl woodrum was driving yesterday morning. he drove into the median, hit a barrier and flipped that truck. no word now on if woodrun is facing charges. we're waiting to find out if allison huffman, the woman accused of hitting and killing a tow truck driver on the howard frankland bridge monday morning is going to face

what we know now, she won't be getting out of jail soon. huffman is charged with leaving the scene of a deadly crash monday morning, investigators say that she hit and killed roger perez while he was helping two stranded motorists. according to an arrest warrant huffman admitted to driving the car that hit perez but said she was too scared to stop. huffman has two prior du ew convictions and recently released from jail for petty theft. ? we all make mistakes, you know but i hope that she realizes the pain she's caused not just for the -- for us, the ones that lost him, but for her own family as well. >> a judge set huffman's bond at $750,000. she will eventually be transferred from pinellas county to hillsborou county where she could face additional charges. meanwhile, roger perez's

and we have a link at abcactionnews.com. fog left over in some areas, especially across the interior otherwise we're in pretty good shape with a lot of sunshine. look at the temperatures, responding to the sun, upper 50s to low 60s now. the calm winds and clear skies got us overnight. as things cooled down and allowed for the fog to become quite dense, a lot of areas are covered. at this point the coast looks good, again just the interior, polk county to desoto county, reporting still mild visibility. watching that another half- hour. i think even there we'll be good. 69 by lunchtime and then we'll be in the low 70s as we head through later on today. janelle has been guiding us through the fog. which roads may still have to deal with fog? looks like we're slowly coming out of the fog. here we are at i-75 just north of i-4, still looks foggy there although down at the road where

pictures and videos. there is believed to be other victims as well. a truck that crashed through the tampa international mall while you were sleeping. tampa police are looking for the driver of this toyota tacoma. apparently ditched the truck after slamming into the tree with so much force it split the tree in two. polk county, a seven-year manhunt has ended. deputies say they have diego guzman in custody now. they claim guzman got a 12-year- old girl pregnant and then left for mexico to avoid being arrested but recently slipped up and got back on the authority's radar after applying for a u.s. visa and when he did deputies arrested him as he crossed the border into the united states. new revelations about a central florida woman accused of documents show the department of children and families has susan richardson, before, for longtime boyfriend.

orlando complex monday afternoon after somebody noticed a placenta in the parking lot. right now there is no trace of that baby. cadaver dogs and bloodhound are searching for the baby girl but at this point officers say they are not sure if she's even alive. 9:09. lawmakers in tallahassee might put the brakes on red light cameras in florida for good. they are pushing forward a bill to ban the cameras starting in july of 2019. supporters of the ban say the cameras are nothing more than a moneymaker for cities and counties and don't actually the florida house is expected to vote on the measure next. the u.s. is showing north korea what it can do to defend south korea from pomention yesterday -- potential aggression from the north. four 22 stealth fighters landed at an air base near seoul. escorted by other u.s. and jets. the u.s. often does this in

9:14. new developments this morning, a federal judge is ordering nevada rancher cliven bundy to remain in an oregon jail this

the court ordered bundy staying locked up saying he's a flight rink risk and danger to the community. it's over the standoff two years ago. he was arrested in oregon last week where he flew to support his sons in a separate standoff at a wildlife refuge there. cliven bundy could spend life in prison if convicted. happening today -- opening statements are expected to be made in the first ever case against an alleged isis supporter in arizona. abdul malik abdul karim is accused of providing material support to isis. he's been connected to a foiled terrorist plot in texas last year. police say he and two others watched extremist videos and all three men conspired to commit future terror attacks. two teens facing serious charges, officials say they are responsible for firing bullets into cars on an oklahoma highway. they were arrested yesterday after several drivers reported their cars were riddled with bulletholes monday night. most of the vehicles hit were

identified but they are charged with assault with a deadly weapon and reckless handseling of a firearm. luckily no one was hurt. new this morning, heartbreaking news. a kansas couple is finding some comfort with a sonogram picture despite learning one of the unborn twins is expected not to survive the birth. the pictures show the tiny hand of the underdeveloped baby boy holding on to the finger of his healthy twin sister. the boy whose parents named mason has a hole in his heart and abnormallal brain. they they have two daughters and it's tough learning their only son is not expected to survive but say they he found comfort when doctors showed them the sonogram picture. >> i know i'm holding him. i know i'm carrying him. i just want to be there for him. not knowing and -- she's the only one that can actually be there and holding on to him. through it.

-- if he does pass he won't be alone. >> doctors say mason's only chance of survival would be heart surgery but they say they won't operate on him because of his brain ab normality. 9:17. another recordsetting hot day in southern california. temperatures creeping a tad higher from the day before in that state's ongoing heat wave. the high in downtown los angeles hit 90 degrees tuesday breaking the old record of 88 set back in 1977. daily records were tied or brokeen in more than two dozen other cities but all that heat is gone at least through the weekend with highs in the 60s and 70s forecast through sunday. very different situation on the other side of the country. cars stopped in their tracks for three hours in rochester, new york yesterday. snowy weather made it ditch for drivers to navigate the roads. this particular one was caused by a truck driver stranded after his tires lost traction. tampa's first respondsers are taking action to keep you safe during any dangerous weather situations.

weather radios. the new program will provide radios to managers and homeowner association leaders at every mobile home community in tampa. the goal is to give these vulnerable communities advance warning in case of tornadoes or other severe storms. >> you can get it on the cell phone too. >> in fact it's a great thing, the weather radios but guess what? the they were not working this week because they were moving facilities. with the last severe weather event it would not have helped at all. but great for them to do that for mobile homes. our mobile app is what is really important. who doesn't have a smartphone these days? a lot of us do so this app will notify you if there is severe weather in your area in your zip code. you don't have to worry about the entire county and getting awakened in the middle of the night. this will track you exactly where you are based on gps. amazing what we can do with technology here. you can really customize this, tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, whatever

on the app. that's the app store or google play with android. i have it myself, it was going off as i was with dennis the other night tracking the severe storms that rolled through. they are gone. we cleared out and nicely now with temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s but this morning of course with the clear skies and calm winds, fog did develop and it was pretty dense and widespread towards the morning. now certainly more patchy, now polk county about the only one left as far as the visibility issues, the rest of us cleared out nicely. southeast view, look at this, a lot of clear sky, clouds you see to south florida just high clouds left over. we're looking good and that's what we're expecting the next few days. no big changes until the early part of next week. upper 50s to low 60s now, as far as the current temperatures, we're going to do a little better this afternoon. in the low 70s. along the beaches there in the 60s. as you get closer to the water

a tarpon springs man arrested on child porn charges expected to be in court this afternoon. justin murdock was pulled over in december for a expired tag and was arrested for possession of marijuana. police say they confiscated several of his electronic devices and filed child porn. he was arrested again yesterday and now charged with 100 counts of possessing child pornography. arrested for playing doctor. 18-year-old west palm beach man now facing serious charges for practicing medicine without a license. the florida department of health started to investigate malakai love robinson after a complaint. yesterday he was busted in an undercover investigation. this want quabe doctor performed a physical and offered medical advice to an undercover agent. he told reporters it's not the first time he's faced these types of accusations. >> i'm hurt because of the accusations and allegations but like i said it's not the first time i've been accused and i

you'll be the first to know miss parker. >> officials say love-robinson also had a fully operational web site for his fake practice. he was booked on suspicious of practicing medicine without a license and the florida department of health served him a notice to cease and divity de -- southeast and desist along with other citations. hum hogan will be soon back in a st. petersburg courtroom. he claimed the web site gawker violated his privacy by leaking a sex tape. attorneys are expected to ask certain evidence not be presented when the case goes to trial. the zika virus is now impacting who can donate blood in the u.s. the food and drug administration is recommending that blood banks refuse donations from those who traveled to countries where the zika virus is active, for four weeks before giving blood. it's part of a set of guidelines meant to protected the blood supply from the mosquito-borne virus. word of a major

against cancer. researchers in seattle announced a potential new treatment this week. that treatment is based on what is called immunotherapy. it helps a person's immune system fight off cancer cells in a way that similar to fighting a virus. in the treatment doctors take white blood cells from cancer patients and genetically modify them. then they are put back in to multiply. researchers say the genetically modified cells could protect the patient from cancerous invasions. in democracy 2016 -- we're now just three days away from the republican presidential primary in south carolina. >> tonight and tomorrow candidates make televised appeals to voters on why they should vote for them. all six republicans will answer voters' questions during two town hall meetings. ben carson and senators ted cruz and marco rubio are participating this evening. donald trump, jeb bush and john kasich will appear tomorrow. president obama is weighing in on one of the biggest names in the republican race now. listen to what the president

no one was injured. deputies say osborne stopped at this 7-eleven. we're awaiting word on what charges he will face. new this morning, mexican drug lord el chapo is complaining that life behind bars is too rough on him. his attorney spoke on a radio station yesterday. he said el chapo said guards wake him up every two hours which he says feels like torture. real name joaquin guzman, escaped from prison last year but re-arrested last month and is now under much closer watch. the u.s. and cuba now have an official agreement to start regularly scheduled flights between the two countries for the first time in more than 50 years. the u.s. and cuba signed an aviation agreement yesterday. u.s. airlines can now request rights to the routes but u.s. airlines have to strike deals with cuban aviation officials. u.s. authorities hope that will be completed by this fall. beyonce is being blamed for causing a scary scene outside the home of a sheriff in tennessee. gunshots fired monday night.

temperatures in the mid and upper 50s now. low to mid-70s, the further away from the coast you get the warmer it will be. along the coast temperatures will be in the mid 60s there. so 71 which is typical for this time of year by the way. 2 to 3-foot seas for boaters, winds northwesterly at 10 knots with light chop for the coastal waterways. the water going a little higher now. we were upper 50s yesterday, now low 60s. that won't make a difference for floridians, we like it warmer than that. 72 tomorrow. then 70s once again for friday. notice the trend, we're going up as we head through the weekend here and we'll break it down on saturday and sunday. temperatures both weekend days, i think we'll be in the mid- 70s. we're going to do this with comfortable humidity so nothing like tease of spring or anything like that. then we're tracking the next cold front. that is going to move in as we head through the day on tuesday. doesn't look severe now, we'll watch that and the timing as we get closer to the day.

the tampa heights area. then on monday the 29th the attention is on residents in ybor city and east tampa areas. both workshops will be at the childrens' board building on east palm avenue in ybor city. starting 5:30 to about 7:30. joining news the studios with more we have debbie hunt from the department of transportation district 7 and we also have tara sabia from the florida center for community design and research at university of south florida. thank you for coming in. >> so much has been said, descriptions of the project. how does the florida department of transportation describe the tampa express project? what is it? >> it's a great transportation improvement project specifically on the interstates. it's so draw traffic to the interstates to use for the through movements. it's about 50 miles of express lanes which will be tolled lanes.

st. pete up to fowler avenue in north tampa. and it also -- on i-275. it also going out i-4 to east of i-75. >> we have heard from some of the residents who are concerned about it, and so the question that we have is why does the florida department of transportation feel this will benefit the tampa bay area? >> there are 180,000 trips a day on the interstate. many of us experience the backups on a regular basis. these lanes give people an alternative. if they choose to pay a toll they can to get to where they're going probably a little quicker than if they are on the general purpose lanes. >> the meetings, you had one last night and there's three more. what is the expectation? do people go and they can ask questions? they can bring notes? what is the expectation for these public workshops? >> the public workshops are designed to be able to engage residents and business owners and community members in talking about their

so we have not just fdot district 7 involved but all of our agencies including city of tampa, hillsborough county, mpo, hart and we're really together to talk about the needs of the neighborhood. so some of these needs may have a relationship to the tampa bay express project and some are just needs in general. sometimes we don't put the and figure out how those needs can be met by different projects and by different agencies. so we're utilizing this engagement process to do that. >> it's a two-way street. there's conversation information going out and coming in as well. >> absolutely. that information coming in is so important to the project and it will have an impact on its design. >> it's an important conversation. we're going to continue on facebook. the producer says it's a wrap. we're running out of time. thank you for coming in. to learn more about the tampa bay express project visit them
