like now, from 75 heading to the junction, the traffic indicators are in the green. so no crashes or breakdowns out there to slow you down. this is what it looks like when you get into downtown tampa. six minutes from downtown to the howard frankland bridge. and checking your drive in pinellas county on 275, no trouble there, in the green in both directions from the skyway 5:31. breaking overnight -- one man is dead, another on the run following an attempted robbery at the cut rate liquor store on 15th street. abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is there live. that man was shot and killed by the store clerk. >> reporter: that's right. just got off the phone with tampa police about 30 minutes ago. they confirmed that information. something else very important to note -- check this out, security cameras, just did a walk-around of the building and there are six cameras posted

there are also security cameras inside. tampa police tell me they will be reviewing that security footage to actually determine exactly what went on here. they tell me this is around 11:00 last night when the two men came in, armed, looking to rob the place. what they didn't know, the clerk was armed as well, in an exchange of gunfire one of the would be robbers was shot. police say, again, by the clerk, by the time police got here last night they found him dead outside on the sidewalk just feet from the store. the store clerk was not injured in this incident. police will be reviewing that footage throughout the morning, accurate. at this point the name of that man who was shot and killed hasn't been released. investigators will not only be reviewing that surveillance footage but also speaking with witnesses and trying to gather some information to find that other suspect who is on the run this morning. for now reporting live in tampa, rodney dunigan, abc action news. this morning are a south florida -- this morning a south florida family is devastated, desperate to find

king carter was shot while playing with friends outside the apartment come -- complex where he lived. a $25,000 reward is offered for the arrest of the shoot. the father describes the heartbreaking scene saturday night. >> i heard the shots, ran out of the house:i ran everywhere around -- i said where is king? me, i had to find my son in the corner with his eyes open! >> last night the community came together not just to mourn the child's death but also to share how angry they are. nobody is speaking up about this deadly shooting. >> 6-year-old! the community is silent? a 6-year-old! and the community didn't see anything? in broad open daylight? >> family and friends describe king as a caring child who loved to play football. and sadly gun violence has devastated south florida more than 60 kids have been shot, 24 killed in just the last 12 months. staying in south florida

a miami woman beat noon a coma by a new roommate now showing small signs of improvement. 23-year-old danielle jones is opening her eyes and blinking. police say byron mitchell brutally beat her on valentine's day. the police report says mitchell claims it was self-defense and she threatened him with a knife. craigslist. her mom wants this to be a warning to other women. person. you may think twice of letting a stranger into your home before checking references or doing a criminal background check. >> police say mitchell only lived with danielle for a week. now held in jail without bond on attempted murder charges. also we're keeping tabs now on the recovery of a tampa woman that so many of you are following as you share her story. this is skyler arekawa, fighting for her life after shifts crushed by a boulder while river rafting in south america.

progress. the 22-year-old graduated from berkeley prep and yale and is known for her community service around the world. her family posted an update on facebook saying she's in stable condition now and they are hoping to bring her back to florida today. hundreds of you have already shared her story off our facebook page, the story also has a link that is going to take you to the gofundme account. this is the page here for the gofundme account. you can see it's already raised more than $100,000 so far. when you see it, please hit share. new developments in a ferocious cyclone that tore through fiji over the weekend. 18 people confirmed dead from cyclone winston, but the fear is that number may rise once communications are restored in islands. winds from winston reached an incredible 185 miles per hour making it the strongest storm hemisphere.

emergency shelters because their roads were destroyed. the clean-up continues a week after a tornado ripped through century, florida, in the panhandle. now some homeowners will wake up today to sort through and save anything they can before it's time to demolish homes and rebuild. some homeowners say they have insurance, others left to handle the cost of damage on their own because it was not many say they don't have the cash it will take to restore their homes. more than a dozen houses were either destroyed or severely damaged. officials have spent the past several days surveying the hardest hit areas. they hope to continue to show the need nor assistance that they can get emergency funds from the state and other sources. we're planning to send a reporter to hernando county later today to find out more about a construction scam targeting the elderly. the hernando county sheriff says he thinks con artists already victimized several people but still awaiting victims to come forward now. our eric waxler is heading there to talk to deputies. follow him on twitter to get

also now, pasco deputies on the hunt for this guy after a rash of car break-ins at one trinity community. they think this is the suspect that has been taking stuff from unlocked cars in the foxwood community. we're trying to confirm with deputies whether he's the only suspect or if more people might be involved. 5:37. democracy 2016 -- donald trump may have the most republican delegates following his saturday win in south carolina's gop primary. >> but marco rubio certainly is not letting that stop his campaign. the florida senator crisscrossed the country yesterday holding events in tennessee, arkansas and nevada. rubio believes he will benefit most after former florida governor june better suspended his campaign. jeb bush suspended his campaign. rubio getting a major hollywood endorsement from one of the wahlberg brothers two days before that state holds its caucuses. >> the other candidates, they hear marco coming, donald trump

welcome back. 5:43. thank you for joining us on this early monday morning. here's i-75 and i-4 in hillsborough county. no problems to report there. temperature-wise 60 degrees now in tampa. very pleasant. traffic and weather details a moment away. all new this morning, a disturbing report on covering an even higher risk of cancer because of the flooring that could be in your home. lumber liquidators flooring was tested for formaldehyde and now there could be three times risk

that means there's a three times higher risk of tumors than previously reported from the cdc. the danger is from the formaldehyde used in the flooring. people with respiratory conditions are more sensitive to the exposure. a new study adding fuel to the fire in the hollywood lack of diversity. a new study shows the films and tv shows produced by major media companies are "whitewashed" and the epidemic of invisibility is from top to bottom for well, minorities and lgbt people. the university of california is set to release details of the study later today. the report includes a barrage of statistics that show evidence of a deep discrepancy between hollywood and the american hoplation that it entertains. more on our mobile app. with six days to the oscars we're bringing back an abc action news tradition.

this is going to be changing big time here. we have a few showers on the way for tomorrow, nothing severe, then we look to our west. low pressure developing there. it's going to be a potent low with a strong cold front that rolls in here on wednesday. so let's break that down in the 7-day forecast and show you what is going to be happening. first of all let's talk about the monday with highs today in the upper 70s, breaking it down for you hour by hour. there are the temperatures, not bad. again we're going to do this with partly cloudy skies, just a few more clouds than we had through the weekend here. temperature climbing back up into the mid and upper 70s and then by tuesday with a southeasterly wind increasing, a little more moisture, we'll be talking about showers. coverage at 30%. for tomorrow nothing severe on tuesday, wednesday is when the actual front attached to the low that comes in. i think it will be a strong one. in fact we have the potential for severe storms on wednesday as the front rolls through. timing now looks to be around midday. the yellow you see here for

be a level 2 risk now from the storm prediction center. this is likely going to change because we're still two days out and we may all get into the yellow here. we'll watch that closely. not expecting rotating thunderstorms but i think the main threat for us is going to be damaging winds as the squall line moves through wednesday. by the way this will separate, very warm temperatures with back-to-winter temperatures. your highs behind the front, thursday in the 60s. won't even feel like that because the winds are going to be so strong. then 60's friday through the weekend with chilly overnight lows into the 40s. let's check with janelle martinez for the roads. >> traffic still looking great on this monday morning. here's a live look at i-275 at gandy bridge, up to speed now in both directions. traffic still very light in the pinellas county area. let's check some of the drive times on the major roads in the bay area. 11 minutes, this is u.s. 19 southbound from tampa road to eastbay.

expressway from 54 to 275. so still in the green there. if you can head out now, if you're heading to the veterans expressway this might be a good time to leave. still good on dale mabry, just four minutes from fletcher to waters. your drive through downtown tampa on i-275 not bad either, still just five minutes from i- 4 to the howard frankland and exactly five minutes in the opposite direction. 5:48. a generator in a michigan home during a power outage is to blame for killing a family of six with carbon monoxide. the victims are two adults, old. a concerned relative found them in the home sunday afternoon and called 911. the sheriff says first responders had to ventilate the house before going inside. >> no matter how long, no heart how many investigations -- no matter how many investigations you conduct, seeing an entire family wiped out is very sad

a generator in the basement. the last time anyone heard from the family was friday night when the area was hit by a power outage. we can find out as soon as today how much comedian bill cosby's wife knew about his alleged sexual assaults on more than 50 women. despite a weekslong fight to delay it camille cosby is being ordered to testify under oath this morning in a defamation suit against her husband. eight of cosby's accusers say he destroyed their reputations after they came forward with sexual assault allegations against him. cosby denied doing anything wrong, he's facing criminal charges in a separate case. the director of the fbi says the agency owes to it the victims of the san bernardino terror attacks to try to gain access to a cell phone used by one of the gunman. in a statement released last night the fbi says it "can't look at the survivors in the eye are our service in -- ourselves in the mirror if we don't follow this lead." it's five days after a federal magistrate helped apple hack

not a bad start to monday. not as cool, overnight lows at some points last week in the 40s. by the way those are coming back. details in the extended forecast. for now 60 degrees so really won't need heavy jackets. mild and dry for the midday hour, for lunchtime around 75. then we'll manage upper 70s by 4:00. and the evening commute pretty dry. with the changes coming tomorrow, showers and potential for severe storms as we've been talking about. that arrives wednesday. more on that in the next hour. washington state couple got their marriage off on a high note. at 35,000 neat in the air. >> they said i do during an alaskan airlines flight friday. the bride you see here, she is a flight attendant for the airline. she and her new husband planned their wedding to grant three wishes for her mom fighting stage 4 cancer. the bride's moms wishes to see where her daughter works, where her daughter lives and to see her get married.

i think we had over the weekend. we had full sunshine saturday and sunday, upper 70s. we'll manage the warmth today but we have changes to talk about over the next few days. in fact by the middle part of the week tracking potential for severe storms and then a big cooldown so don't get too used to it. i know we're getting close to march but we can still get a few cold fronts and we're certainly going to get this through mid-week. upper 50s to low 60s as we get into the afternoon we'll begin to warm up, into the upper 70s. once again despite more clouds today. we'll do that with sunshine in the afternoon and really the cloud cover not going to bother us that much. certainly not going to rain today. mid-70s, upper 70s by your evening commute. then we're going to track the system that is to our north and west. quiet for now, a few showers tomorrow. then this is the storm that is going to hit us on wednesday with the potential for some severe storms. we'll be tracking that. we have plenty of time to fine tune the forecast. a heads up the next few days as

so far things looking pretty good. >> the roads are dry, visibility is good. so no problems there. really no crashes or breakdowns to tell you about. i've been checking our cameras, this is what it looks like at i- 275 at fowler, wide open now, still up to speed in both directions. these headlights are heading towards downtown tampa. let's check drive times on 275. starting all the way back at the apex. it's taking 13 minutes to get to i-4, five minutes if you're starting off at busch to i-4 and five minutes from i-4 to the howard frankland. a quick check of the drive on the veterans expressway, still looking good, all in the green, 12 minutes in the middle from van dyke to 275. it's coming up now on 6:01. we're keeping track of three big breaking news stories from overnight. the first, apparent robbery at a tampa liquor store that took a deadly turn. >> a clerk at the store turning
