surveillance footage will be key in determining what led to a botched robbery here at the tampa liquor store that ended an update coming up. >> he wouldn't stop. he said don't you want a ride to your friend's house? i said yeah, but i want to get there alive. >> as the community comes there together to cope after a deadly shooting spree in michigan we're learning what the shooter was doing the night of the killings as authorities try to hunt him down. we begin with this developing story. a man dead, another on the run following an attempted armed robbery at a cut rate liquor store. >> it happened in the 3300 block of north 15th street.

now. it was the store clerk who fired that deadly shot. >> reporter: that's right. we got that information confirmed this morning. investigators say it was around 11:00 last night that the two men came in armed attempting to rob this place, what they also armed. let me show you something. some of the damage left behind from some of this. we got a tour of the store now. this is some of the ricochet much shattered. the shopkeeper has been cleaning up this morning trying to get it together. throughout the morning we've also spoken to a number of business owners in this area and they say that this incident should serve as a major warning to crooks. >> it's been a body shop for 60 years. i'm born and raised here, my dad owned the shop on 15th and lake for 30 years. i'm from this area. >> reporter: joseph quintana takes pride in his ybor city body shop.

his property and those who work here. >> we kind of keep gates in the front and dogs at night, alarm and, you never know. >> reporter: turns out that is smart. sunday night at the cut rate liquor store across the street in the 3300 block of north 15th street tampa police say two armed men walked in with the intentions of robbing the place. investigators say things took a turn when the store clerk pulled a gun as well. officers say in an exchange of gunfire one of the would be robbers was hit and killed. when police got to the scene they discovered him not far from the store. the second suspect was able to run away. quintana believes this incident should serve as a message. >> we're all trying to make a living over here and we're in business -- business owners ain't going to tolerate it and do what we have to do to defend our businesses and ourselves. >> reporter: something i want to you make note of, these security cameras, there are six

as well as a number of them inside. investigators say they will review the surveillance footage to figure out exactly what happened here. as for the shopkeeper here last night, we're told he's ok. in fact i spoke with the clerk inside only a few minutes ago. he tells me he actually plans to be at work today. he works the late shift so he'll be in 3:00 this afternoon. reporting live in ybor city, rodney dunigan, abc action news. right now the hunt is still on for a killer who shot four people outside a tampa hooka bar and took off running. one of the victims, 28-year-old manuel ortiz jr. died saturday morning outside the bar on east bearss avenue. deputies say the shooter fired into a crowd of 50 people. there is a crime stoppers reward for tips that lead to an arrest. st. petersburg police need your help finding a person that fired a gun in the middle of a birthday party at a hotel. officers say sunday morning a

of, a 14-year-old girl, still in critical condition now. deputies say the first shooting happened 6:00 saturday night, four hours later two people were shot at a car dealership and then five shot at a cracker barrel restaurant. dalton drove for uber, the company says he passed a background check but a man who rode in his car saturday and tried to warn both police and uber after his terrifying experience. >> he was driving erratically, going through stop signs, speeding, once he came to a stop i jumped out of the car and ran away. >> investigators believe dalton the shootings. so far police don't have a motive for the attacks. it's a big day for the parents whose children were elementary school massacre, a judge will decide whether their lawsuit against companies that make and sell the ar-15 rifle can go forward.

sadly 67 kids died in shootings in miami-dade county since 2013. a jaw dropping crime. let your friends in central florida know about this. orange county deputies are looking for a teen they say ran over a sheriff's sergeant on purpose. sergeant marcy pearce was approaching 15-year-old jan carlos ortiz to take him into custody. deputies say ortiz saw her and drove off hitting pearce so hard she was knocked unconscious when she hit the ground. pearce suffered a significant head injury but fortunately is out of the hospital now. deputies don't know if ortiz is armed but say he should be considered extremely dangerous. in a few hours we're expecting to learn about a construction scam targeting older folks in hernando county. the sheriff there says he thinks con artists already victimized several people who haven't come forward yet. our erik waxler will be speaking with the sheriff today to find out what you can do to make sure your loved ones or yourself don't become victims and we'll post details to our abc action news mobile app.

keep your valuables inside your house. pasco county deputies are looking for this man after a rash of car break-ins in one trinity neighborhood. they think the guy has been taking stuff from unlocked cars in the foxwood community. we're trying to confirm now with deputies whether there is more than one suspect. four people are facing charges after a brawl broke out at a florida pizzeria. this start the when an order of garlic bread arrived with cheese on top. police in flagler county arrested three men and woman friday night, they say the woman demanded to get her money back and she saw her order of garlic bread had cheese on it. she got upset when the clerk put the money on the counter in what she considered a disrespectful way. that is when three other men stormed the restaurant throwing a fax machine, cash register, food and pizza boxes. all four now charged with burglary and cri -- criminal

federal magistrate in california ordered apple to help hack into an i-phone used by syed farook who along with his wife killed 14 people in the december attack. a mother is making a desperate plea now for the safe return of her little girl. police in upstate new york issued an amber alert for this little girl here, 21-year-old maddox lawrence. investigators say she may have been taken from her home by her father, ryan lawrence saturday night. maddox' mother found their house in syracuse empty when she came home from work. she says her daughter and husband were nowhere to be found but did find a note. she said he took maddox with him but didn't say where he went and a public statement yesterday though show she pleaded for ryan to bring her family back home. >> the whole family wants you both home. and we just want to know that you guys are in a good place.
