steven pace and katie smith are facing multiple charges. police say 37-year-old ricardo marquez stashed a gun inside his girlfriend's diaper bag and left the bag unattended at the park while he walked our his girlfriend's 6-year-old son then found the gun and fired one shot. no one was hurt but the recoil popped him in the lip. when police arrived, they saw marquez trying to toss the gun in the bay. college students are fighting for the right to carry a gun. a group of students at florida polytechnic in lakeland, rallying in support of a bill to allow concealed weapon

head, hands, back and foot. she is expected to make a full recovery and ortiz is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. concerning news tonight, the cdc saying your chance of getting cancer from lumber liquidator flooring is higher than first thought. >> reporter: investigators reported the levels of formaldehyde in the flooring were bad enough to irritate the eyes, nose and throat, and could increase cancer risks by a small amount. government scientists forgot to convert feet to meter in calculations, meaning risks for

have now tripled. that could mean formaldehyde levels 18 times higher than a normal home and trigger cancer risks to an unacceptable level. federal agencies say they are still looking into the matter and have acknowledged the problem. stocks in the company have taken a nose dive today. a fit of rage after troopers say and unidentified man sideswiped an suv on east lake road sunday night. he then got out of the road, crossed the car and throwing beer bottles at the driver he hit. as he tried to go back across the road, a third vehicle hit and killed him. police say this morning and officer spotted a person going

street ramp. it didn't appear the driver was under the influence and was let go with a citation. authorities say they have arrested a career criminal targeting the elderly. dennis prairie scammed at least 13 residents like janet, offeringto resurface their driveways but he used watered down cement and then left a cover-up job that quickly washed away. janet checked a neighbor's driveway as a reference and thought it looked okay. there could be up to 50 more victims and investigators want them to come forward. tomorrow a u.s. marine will bury his infant son. the service is thanks to your support. we told you about perez and his family last wednesday. his son died from s.i.d.s. the family is currently stationed in california and had trouble paying for the funeral and trip back to the bay area.

a car crash in tennessee ends after a driver hit a pole and the car burst into flames. he made it out alive but it's what was found inside the charred remains that have some calling it a miracle. look at that fire. witnesses say another driver hit that car, sending it off the road. a police officer rescued the guy inside. he was taken to the hospital and he is expected to survive. the amazing discovery? firefighters put out the flames and the only thing left in the charred car was a bible on the front seat, still in good condition. this weather has been beautiful but chains are coming.

port charlotte, things are good right now. the rays are getting in full force with spring training and the weather there looks pretty good, although actually south of the rain -- by the way, this is severe weather awareness week. today is thunderstorms and tornadoes. ironic, because i think we are using storm shield on wednesday for the threat of severe weather across part of the region, especially north of i- 4. we'll touch on that in a second. there is some rain going on right now across hardee and desoto county, highlands county, a few showers rolling manatee county. this is sort of a sign of things to come, more moisture out there. this is a warm front. that will actually set the stage sort of destabilizing everything, then once the cold front rolls in on tuesday, that's when we track the

temperatures now upper 70s to low 80s. tomorrow morning we're mild, waking up to temperatures in the mid-60s, maybe even upper 60s, and the chance of showers overnight. i think they are out of here by first thing in the morning. tampa and st. pete, partly cloudy skies. winds coming in off the gulf will bring the possibility of sea fog across part of the area tomorrow. that southwest wind is ahead of our next cool front. as we said this evening, southerly winds, a few showers can't be ruled out. by 8:00, 8:30, maybe more than a few. nothing severe or lightning with this but scattered showers continuing until about 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning. so i don't think this is going to be an issue for the morning commute. i think we're partly sunny. notice the humidity is increased tomorrow. the rain chances will be but not so much in the first half of the day. another area of rain moving south by tomorrow afternoon.

to watch closely because that rolls in by early to mid- morning on wednesday. there's the threat of severe weather, possibly strong weather, maybe even isolated tornado. i think that highest risk is across the northern counties and it is something we'll have to keep our eyes on. most folks will pick up close to an inch of rain out of this before it's said and done wednesday afternoon. one more day of warm temperatures, upper 70s near 80 degrees. then by thursday, another cold snap returns. winter wasn't done with us yet. 78 on tuesday, 76 with strong storms on wednesday, and thursday 64 for the high, 62 on friday. morning lows possibly in the upper 30s to low 40s. hello, folks. the position players are checking in early to spring training and pitchers have the rays focused for this week.

be a huge plus for the rays. john sabol has more on what we're talking about. >> good evening. a week from wednesday, the charlotte sports park will host the rays and nationals. a lot of encouraging things this spring training especially with alex cobb, returning after tommy john surgery ahead of schedule. with or without him, the rays starting rotation may be one of the best in the american league. chris archer isn't one to prognosticate. >> it's hard to make predictions right now. i don't really look at that too much. but the guys we have in camp right now are elite for sure, hands down. >> reporter: archer is right. the rays starting rotation is elite and could be dominant this year. but there could be one obstacle in the rotation's way.
