driver and taking him into custody. police say an unmarked tpd unit tracked that stolen car to this walgreen's on armenia at mlk. once the suspect realized he was being followed he tried to run but we're told a tpd air unit spotted him and answer ibled officers to catch him. officers think the suspect and stolen car are from another county. in democracy 2016, republican frontrunner donald trump is hoping to hit the jackpot in las vegas with the nevada caucus hours away. hoping for his third victory in a row after easy wins in new hampshire and south carolina. once again he's heavily favored to win today. there's a lot at stake for senators marco rubio and ted cruz after a close contest for second and third place in south carolina. both men have spent weeks now trying to present themselves as alternatives to trump whose name is in big bold letters on top of his hotel on the vase strip. on the democratic side senators bernie sanders and --

lawyers maintain dalton's shootings were random and haven't said what his motives might have been. altogether authorities say dalton shot eight people. the family of a teenaged girl who survived the shooting says they are daughter is now in a ventilator, dalton is being held in jail without bond. this morning uber defends the way it screens and approves its drivers. the company saying dalton cleared a background check and had a nearly perfect rating among his fares. uber said in a statement it had no reason to believe anything was amiss until the shootings saturday night a hillsborough county county trying to rebuild after a fire defendant stayed their home. -- devastated their home. they pray their two cats are going to survive. charred remains of the home here, it burned nearly to the ground a week ago. firefighters saved as many animals as possible but sadly four cats did die. >> i think the hardest part is just knowing -- i'm sorry --

babies, which is my cats, what they had to go through. that they suffered. i wasn't here to protect them and help them. >> those two surviving cats are boeing treated now at an animal hospital. we're hearing it may take months for them to recover from what we're hearing are severe burns. firefighters believe the fire started in an electrical box. a st. lucie county high school band director is expected in court today on charges he had sex with a 15- year-old female student. 26-year-old gary burnett was a first year band director at st. lucie west centennial high school. a student told a resource officer about the inappropriate relationship. police say burnett confessed to the crime, was arrested and fired. meanwhile, an update to an urgent manhunt for a teen accused of mowing down a central florida sheriff's deputy. the 15-year-old will be in court after turning himself in to authorities yesterday. lawyers for that teenager will

should be charged as an adult for driving into sergeant marcy pearce last week while she was taking him into custody. she suffered a serious head wound and other injuries but is out of the hospital this morning. in sarasota county, a 5- year-old girl living within reach of guns and drugs is now out of that home. deputies describe that house as "an explosives ridden drug den." there are photos of the grenades, pipe bombs and dozens of firearms reportedly found in that venice home friday afternoon. this morning that little girl's mother, katie smith and her boyfriend steven pace face charges. neighbors say they are relieved, a few told us they took that little girl in numerous times keeping her for sometimes weeks at a time feeding and clothing her. deserve this. she needs a life. she deserves to have a life. this is not a life for nobody. or any animal.

6:09. tuesday morning. troubling new developments of how many cars may have the notorious exploding airbags inside. >> regulators say they may decide another 90 million airbags should be recalled. that would nearly triple the number of faulty takata airbag inflators recalled so far in the biggest auto recall ever. just last month the national highway traffic safety administration announced nine new recalls impacting nine new automakers. a dozen deaths in the u.s. have been linked to the airbags including at least one in florida that can explode with too much force and blow shrapnel at drivers. a united nations panel approved a temporary ban on cargo shipments of rechargeable lithium ion batteries on airplanes. they are capable of intense fires on a plane. it's believed one destroyed a asiana airlines plane before it landed in 2011.

some of the residents say they have not seen this in a very long time. something there. in fact it's not a storm system real close to them. look at the sky, clear skies. a storm well off to the north, the swells associated with it made it all the way in. voifers probably in the complaining -- surfers probably not complaining. we have weather to get through specifically. we'll talk about that. let's go to where the storm is. this is a thousand miles to the north but it's the swells associated with the storm. there's the low there to the north. the islands there, that's what's been bringing that swell in the last couple of days. it will continue a little more and we'll get back to normal. let's fly home and show you what is going on. we had a great weekend. now a few showers popping up. later this afternoon i think we're still good despite cloud cover. then we're going to watch to our west. this is the storm that is getting going.

system across the eastern gulf coast. in fact as i've been talking about, this will likely be a tornadic outbreak for them, up to the north. it will arrive here tomorrow but not as strong so we'll be pinpointing that. there are the showers that develop today anywhere from 1:00 to say 5:00 p.m. we are going to have showers, nothing severe, no lightning, not widespread and these will be quick movers by the way heading from south to north. then we get ready for this, this is the main line that comes in ahead of the cold front, this is attached to that low. the difference will be the low will be far enough away where i think we're not going to have to deal with the spin. so tornadoes not likely here but damaging wind gusts certainly as the line of thunderstorms barrels through. i think that will happen 11:00. by the way, if you know anyone here make sure they are aware of this because this is going to be, i think a big deal for today. the nastiest outbreak we've seen in a while there. for us the threat shifts

no oranges, we're not in an enhanced risk or moderate risk, but there is slight risk. that is 7:00 to 11:00 for damaging wind gusts. can't rule out a tornado but i think the percentage for it is under 5%. my main concern is really the squall line moving through with heavy downpours and the potential for very strong winds. so keep your stormshield app on and of course once you set it up once you don't have to worry about it. it will alert you wherever you are as far as your zip code. i think we may in fact by tomorrow get a watch box. so we'll keep you posted. we'll be on-line and throughout abc action news. upper 70s to 80 degrees by today. we'll do that with partly sunny skies and showers in the afternoon. tomorrow is our tough day as far as weather. then by the way, after that, it is a cold front, it's a potent one and do we have some cold air on the way. highs in the 60s, replaces the 70 to near 80.

into the 40s through the weekend. we are following a crash up in the san antonio area, in pasco county. state road 52 at i-75, this is affecting both the eastbound and westbound lanes, both blocked now, also the entrance and exit ramps from i-75, so if you're trying to get to i-75, depending on where you're coming from and where you're going you're going to have to use state road 54 to get on the interstate. i'll let you know as soon as that road opens back up. we're also watching a crash here in manatee county, in the myaca city area, state road 70 at berna road, eastbound and westbound lanes affected, no complete blockage but i'm seeing some slowdowns. so if you're morning drive take you here you may want to leave a little earlier. less than 10 minutes to get across all three bridges. the oscars countdown in full force.

not far from the florida straw were festival grounds in plant city. no problems on the road. janelle was checking for an accident. we don't seem to find it. overnight there was a 10th inch of rain in tampa. there may be some slick streets. in some places that are not well traveled early so watch for that. i know there's water on my car this morning. 65 degrees, very comfortable. ivan says big changes are on the way. wild fight caught on camera. players and parents at an oklahoma elementary school mixing it up on the basketball court. police saying some of the people caught in the brawl may soon face charges. officers in dewy say two fourth grade boys began playing rough at the game earlier this month. one punched the other in the head and then comps and parents run on the court, at one point the stepfather of the boy that was hit punched one of the coaches in the throat. the stepfather said he felt threatened but we're told the surveillance video doesn't back up his claim.

6:30 -- breaking news. tampa fire crews remain on scene to monitor hot spots at a house that erupted in flames early this morning. four people and two dogs were inside the house on east sitka street. we spoke to a neighbor that says she called 911 and rushed to help everyone get out safely. one person was taken to the hospital with burns. the cause remains under investigation. it's a very busy morning on abc action news. first we want to get you prepared for the kind of day you can expect today weatherwise. it's going to be fairly nice today before the changes move in? >> some showers. we're not talking about severe weather today. that is tomorrow. we've been talking about it the last couple of days. it's been a while since we've had nasty weather roll through. just a heads up. sunrise 7:01. coming up in 31 minutes. we're looking at temperature by later on today in the upper 70s. the difference, today we have enough moisture and enough

to keep flames from spreading to adjacent buildings. we just learned a number of vehicles in the warehouse were destroyed. so far there's no word on a cause but crews did not report any injuries. this sad update this morning, a 16-year-old boy injured in a helicopter crash at pearl harbor last week has now died from his injuries. that teen was pronounced dead yesterday and his family decided to donate his organs. he and three family members visiting from can'ta were on a -- canada were on a helicopter tour when it crashed. their names haven't been released. it happened near the pearl harbor visitors center thursday. federal agencies are investigating exactly what may have caused the crash. an update now as we learn what happened during a several hourslong deposition with bill cosby's wife. in massachusetts camille cosby answered questions about a defamation lawsuit against her husband. how much of the meeting was a back and forth with lawyers about what she could and couldn't answer. judge. while lawyers are keeping quiet about what was asked of camille

we're following breaking news in pasco county. in the san antonio area. a semi jackknifed blocking lanes on state road 52, captain al, what are you seeing up there? >> reporter: good morning. this is just adjacent to tampa bay golf and country club in the southwest corner of i-75 and state road 52. you can see where the jackknifed track tractor- trailer is under the overpass, that new overpass they are building. it's completely blocking the eastbound lanes. actually the rear end there, almost in the westbound but

involved as well. he's turned, now they are allowing as you see there going eastbound, you can get on i-75 and go south, but you cannot go east and continue under 75 and go north on i-75. so keep that in mind, you will be able to come west from san antonio over to the west side of i-75 and then go south but it's going to be a little slow. they are in the process, they have a heavy wrecker out here so hopefully they will clean this up in the next 15 or 20 minutes. we're following another major crash, affecting traffic in the myaca city area, in manatee county, state road 70 at vernea road, it's effecting mainly the westbound lanes but slowdowns eastbound as well. i'm you want to day lowe avenue to fruitville if you're trying to get to i-75. and fruitville back in the other direction as well. you may want to avoid state road 70 until they get this accident cleared. opening up our cameras, looking

after 12:00 that is when we're looking at showers, temperatures by the way in the upper 70s, above average certainly for this time of year. so i think we'll be in pretty good shape as far as that is concerned. tomorrow, this is the day we're going to be tracking the potential for severe storms. i don't think they will be as nasty as today up in the eastern gulf coast but for us we have this slight risk of damaging wind gusts. i think that is going to be the primary threat especially from hillsborough county to the north. in fact the further north you go outside our area, that is where you can encounter some rotating thunderstorms and potential for tornadoes. i think it's minimal for us, damaging winds. thursday we clear out. it turns breezy and look at the ternlts behind this cold front. sharpally. 40s by the time we wake up into friday morning and then only reach 62. wind beginning to subside.
