>> corey dierdorff with the latest and one neighbor's story. corey, are investigators still there? >> reporter: yes, just least the scene a moment ago. as a daylight starts you can really start to see the damage at the home off sitka drive. this fire broke out just before 4:00 a.m. with firefighters arriving reporting that the home was about 50% involved. flames shooting from the front door. during operations a firefighter found three victims at the front of one of the fire trucks, with possible injuries. the firefighter calling for help. one victim was transported to the hospital with burn wounds. we've learned at the time that the fire started there were four people inside the home, two dogs. everyone got out. a neighbor said she was praying this morning, heard cussing outside her window. she looked outside, saw the

a man in a stolen car couldn't hide from tampa police. officers tailing the driver and taking him into custody overnight. police say an unmarked tpd unit tracked to it this walgreen's at armenia and mlk. once the suspect realized he was being followed he tried to run but a police helicopter enabled officers to catch him. officers tell us that they think the suspect and the stolen car are from another county. an investigation into a bay area hotel shooting ends with two teens escorted from their high school in handcuffs. hillsborough deputies showed up at armwood high school and took both students into custody yesterday. they say 16-year-old charles jones and 18-year-old shawn turner mcgee were at a holiday inn in st. pete sunday morning when a again went off at a -- a gun went off at a party hitting two teens. jones faces murder charges, turner-mcgee faces laser charges and bonded out of jail

ivan, one last day before things change? >> yeah, not a bad start. in fact clouds building later this afternoon, some showers but nothing to concern you. tomorrow a different story. temperatures now upper 60s to around 70s. plenty of sunshine. the rest of the tampa bay area, pretty much in the mid and upper 60s. we'll add 10 degrees to that. get to daytime highs today. titan doppler radar will begin to see spotty showers developing, i think after the 1:00 hour but it's not going to amount to much. everything is moving rapidly towards the north by the way. we're tracking. that is the system, it's a cold front that is going to sweep through the gulf states, eventually make it to our area by the time we get to tomorrow. today just showers, nothing severe. temperatures in the mid and upper 70s. i think we're in pretty good shape. the roads dry. janelle has an update. seeing improvement on i-4. we saw major backups to tampa but the crash we've been following, you can see it's off to the side. we're still seeing a slight onlooker delay but for the most

minutes from 75 to 275. we have a new crash, this one just in, in the bradenton area, 301 boulevard at first street, roadblock in the eastbound lanes so leave extra time there. up in pasco, that semi truck that we've been talking about, that jackknifed, is blocking eastbound state road 52 still out there, seeing some red heading eastbound. good news, you can still get on i-75 but you can't pass under i- 75 to head north on the interstates so you will have to head south first and get on at state road 54. crossing the bay, again things getting back to normal. in the yellow, 12 minutes across the courtney campbell causeway, 10 across the howard frankland and eight minutes to cross the gandy bridge. 9:05. right now the gulfport police department has issued a silver alert for this woman. police say metha franco has been missing since yesterday. her daughter says franco suffers from dementia, thought she had a doctor's appointment

the office on central avenue south says metha never arrived. she's driving a white 2008 buick lose yes -- buick lucerne. police. in sarasota county a 5-year- old girl living within reach of guns and drugs is now out of that home. deputies described that house as an explosives-ridden drug den. we have photos now that show grenades, pipe bombs and dozens of firearms reportedly found in the venice home friday afternoon. now that child's mother, kate smith and her boyfriend steven pace, are both facing charges. neighbors say they are relieved. they say they took that little girl in numerous times, sometimes weeks at a time feeding and clothing her. >> that little girl does not deserve this. she needs a life. she deserves to have a life. and this is not a life for nobody. or any animal. >> dcf removed the little girl

the landlord told us that pace and smith are not allowed back and issued them an eviction notice. we continue to follow a develop story out of michigan. uber says the drier charged with six counts of murder after a shooting rampage in kalamazoo passed a background check. the ride sharing company says jays jays had only been -- jason dalton had only been driving for uber less than a month and had good reviews. in his first court appearance a prosecutor dismissed the idea that he was going after a particular person when he shot the first victim. still no motive released. meantime more uber passengers from that night are speaking about the frightening experience in the car, with dalton. >> i said hey, this is not the hhr, you're not the guy, are you? he kind of said no. >> two people remain hospitalized from the shootings including a 14-year-old girl. uber says they are cooperating with the investigation and are heart broken.

felony charges after a 6-year- old fired a gun in a crowded south tampa park. rico marquez -- ricardo marquez. officers say marquez left the pistol unattended in his girlfriend's diaper bag sunday in a park. the child found it, fired a shot, luckily no one was hit. the guns at the center of the first ever student-run protest at florida polytechnic university. a group of students rallied for a bill that would let concealed weapon permit holders bring guns on campus. organizers say that way they can easily eliminate active shooters and save lives. guns are now banned on state university campuses. lawmakers tried to lift the ban last year but the bill stalled >> we're trying to inform and advocate the voice of the students who are left defenseless. >> florida polytech says it would rather focus on public safety. the school has 36 emergency call buttons around campus and the police say their response

three minutes. in democracy 2016 -- republican frontrunner donald trump is hoping to hit the jackpot in las vegas with the nevada caucus hours away. he's hoping for his third victory in a row after easy wins in new hampshire and south carolina. and once again he's heavily favored to win today. there's also a lot at stake for senators marco rubio and ted cruz after a close contest for second and third place in south carolina. both men have spent weeks trying to present them steeves as alternatives to -- themselves as alternatives to trump. >> trump is already making headlines for remarks he made at a rally last night in sin city. he told attendees he wanted to punch a protester in the face. after the man was escorted out. >> here's a guy throwing punches, nasty as hell, screaming at everything else when we're talking. and walking out and we're not allowed -- the guards are gentle with him. he's walking out, smiling, laughing, i would like to punch him in the face.

now dead, government spokesperson says that coral island is virtually flattened and very few buildings are left after the storm. about 4500 people live on the island. winds from the cyclone reached over 180 miles per hour making it the strongest storm in fiji's recorded history, one of the strongest ever in the southern hemisphere. a state of emergency is in effect for 30 days as a major clean-up operation now gets underway. officials say the top priority of course is getting emergency supplies to the islands. more on the young woman from tampa injured in a tragic accident during her trip in colombia. this morning schuyler arakawa is back in florida. the 22-year-old berkeley prep graduate just landed in miami last night. she was taken to jackson memorial hospital. doctors there are evaluating her. a boulder crushed her while shefsz on a post grad fellowship trip. we have a link to her gofundme he page if you would like to help. go to our web site and look for the story.

man who went missing with his 21-month-old daughter over the weekend is now in police custody but the child is still nowhere to be found. where police found him and where they are now searching for that little girl. >> she was found pushing her 3- year-old's lifeless body in a swing. today we've learned a maryland mother will not be held responsible for that little boy's death. why a judge is letting her walk. >> i'm tracking a storm, which is 700 miles away. by this time tomorrow, we could see severe weather as a result.

deputies say they arrested ryan lawrence yesterday after he was spotted at a thrift store near syracuse. an employee at that store says lawrence was in the store to buy a comforter. she says he was wearing a black wig, hat and bandanna covering his mouth. deputies took ryan lawrence into custody without incident but his daughter is still missing. officials searched dumpsters and alleyways but still haven't found that little girl. meanwhile this morning we're learning the mom accused of giving birth in a california subway sandwich shop and leaving her newborn in a toilet has now been charged with felony child abuse. mary grace trinidad is going to face a judge today. the da is asking for bail to be set at $100,000. the subway employees found the crying newborn earlier this month. you're looking at surveillance video of trinidad leaving the subway store. the baby is expected to survive. a woman in maryland whose son died after she pushed him

will avoid both prison time and mental institution. a judge found roma sims not criminally responsible. she had been suffering from schizophrenia when last may she put her 3-year-old son in a swing and kept him there for 44 hours. at some point the child died. her lawyer revealing sims heard voices that med her do it. at the time she was off her medication. under a plea deal she must now take her medication and see a psychiatrist. if your morning routine involves a stop at starbucks get ready to pay more to get your rewards points. a coffee chain overhauling its rewards program. starting in april starbucks will reward stars based on the amount of money you spend. in the old program, a star per visit. didn't matter how much you spent. also customers would ask for separate transactions to earn even more stars. starbucks executives say the change will speed up service at the checkout. they say they have more than 11 million active reward members. more bad news for shoppers.

harder to come by for amazon's nonprime members. the threshold used to be $35 for an order to ship free, now going up to $49. if you are a prime member, any purchase you make qualifies for free shipping. the move is being made to bump up the ranks of its prime program which is $99 a year. firefighters now working on a plan to safely dismantle this construction crane that caught fire and collapsed in melbourne, australia. video captured the moment that crane toppled and collapsed. sent that flaming arm falling and into debris plummeting to the ground. the crane and debris damaged several cars on the street below. it happened at a 12-story construction site. firefighters say that blaze started in the motor of the crane which traveled up and luckily no one was hurt. check out this new sufficient video. a plane crash landing on a city street in los angeles.

60s and low 70s now. quiet. by the afternoon, you'll be able to see a few showers popping up. we'll see that on futurecast. i want to widen the shot, this storm headed our way is still well to the west. in fact over texas now. it still hasn't even reached the area where i think today will be a very dangerous day for portions of louisiana and minneapolis, even parts of the western panhandle here. all under the gun for not just severe damage as far as winds but tornadoes. even strong to perhaps even violent tornadoes this. is going to be a big deal for them. thankfully the area of low pressure associated with that headed up to the north. we get the cold front, i don't think we're going to get storms that are going to be spinning but we will have the potential of getting a nice squall line through here. by nice i mean not good. 7:00 to 11:00, damaging potential, 45 mile-per-hour winds. they could be higher. any time you get a squall line moving through you can't rule out isolated tornadoes especially along the squall

out of harm's way. national society for the prevention of cruelty to children says parents should explain the dangers of sexting to their kids, tell them it's not only dangerous but it is against the law. also reassure your child you will be supportive and understanding but i guess the most important thing, if your kids receive one of these messages definitely contact police and also we were looking up this morning different phone application that's parents can use to actually track the messages their kids were sending. we have just learned that president obama is going to deliver a statement on guantanamo bay coming up in just about an hour. he's set to speak at 10:30 this morning. for years now the president has been working towards shutting gitmo for good saying terrorists use it as a recruiting tool and it's too expensive to maintain. in his announcement the president is expected to present a new plan to congress which has opposed previous efforts to shut the prison down.

may learn today who is in line to replace a superintendent who recently resigned following accusations of sexual harassment. two weeks ago the school board accepted the superintendent leroy's resignation after the school board admitted they lost faith in her ability to lead the district. she was cleared of allegations she sexually harassed a subordinate. their home may be destroyed in a fire but a hillsborough county family is hoping they won't lose two cats rescued from the flames. the cats, lexy and andy, are recovering at vet care harris animal holt hopt in tampa after they was rescued from the fire a week ago. firefighters saved as many animals as they could including four dogs but four cats didn't survive. the two animals in the hospital have severe burns. >> i think the hardest part is just knowing -- sorry -- it's just knowing that my

they had to go through. that they suffered. i wasn't here to protect them and help them. >> could be weeks or months before the two cats get better. luckily no people were home at the time. firefighters ruled this fire an accident. starting at an electrical box. a state attorney's office wants to charge a 15-year-old northwest florida boy as an adult for the murder of his 10- year-old sister. deputies say frederick lockridge it inned to shooting his sister while teaching her how to shoot a rifle. isabella was reported missing and hours later investigators found her dead in a large field behind her home. the report says frederick moved her body, changed her clothes. he's now charged with murder. investors enjoyed a rally in the markets the past week or so but so far the dow today seems to be take a knee. new jobs are coming to the

staff at the d found her sunday morning. she was in town with her husband from california celebrating her birthday. detectives say surveillance video shows her at one point walking into a maid's closet. so far police are calling it suspicious but not calling the death a homicide. this morning there's an outpouring of support in a michigan community after an entire family died in this home from carbon monoxide poisoning. we first told but this tragic accident yesterday morning. police say the area lost power friday night during high winds and the family was using a generator inside their home. they were found dead on sunday. a gofundme page to help cover the family's final expenses was closed less than 24 hours after it set up because of an overwhelming amount of donations. that page raised more than $47,000. a georgia business owner is now requiring that all his employees get a concealed carry handgun permit and be armed. the company called lance towing and associates provides risk

>> she's drinking it too. we're looking at sunshine, a few clouds this afternoon. think about a few showers developing later on. a nice shot there. 68 to 70 degrees as we look at titan doppler radar. not much right now but things will again to develop later on on. beaches. so if you're along the beach or head there had i think you'll be in better shape than our inland counties where we're go to have showers developing today. then everything moving ratchedly north. this is the next system we're focused on. it's going to bring us severe weather. before arriving here tomorrow, a bulls bull's-eye of very nasty thunderstorms and strong tornadoes. as things begin to bubble up for them. by the time it gets here the low goes north and the front still goes through. that means rotating thunderstorms, primarily to the north.

>> they sell the products, -- it's in a credit union account. scholarships. >> you are looking at this model, why? to repeat it elsewhere? >> yes. replication of this model is really important to us. and to aetna. we're interested in the wealth of opportunities this provides for the community of tampa heights. not only for the kids learning valuable entrepreneurship skills but also in the way that this project brings fresh food into families who are at least three miles from the nearest grocery store, often don't have cars and vehicles that are reliable to get to those stores. so they are really hungry for fresh and healthy foods and vegetables but prevented from getting them for a variety of reasons. >> at this point it's a one of a kind project that we hope to grow. thank you so much for coming in today. >> you're welcome. >> we look forward to posting more pictures of the garden and the kids on facebook. here's the information, if you
