underway across the panhandle but we're getting the cold front associated with that. in fact the potential for rotating thunderstorms which is why the national weather service here has issued the tornado watch box. remember this means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. not that we have to take action at the moment. just be alert. that continues into through 10:00 a.m. for citrus, pasco, hernando. this is the map to pay attention to as well. there's the watch box there but the rest of us, as far as the timing between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m., i think the worst of the weather moving through our northern counties, again severe would rotate. that means some tornadic cells possible to the north. then between 9:00 a.m. and the midday hour everything shifts further south and east. here continuing to see the severe weather threat potential with wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour. even if we don't get that, 40 mile-per-hour winds could certainly cause problems here and even power outages.

now, they are still 60 miles off-shore, it will take another hour for them to push in across the northern counties. that is where they will hit first. then we'll eventually get in on the tail end of the storm as everything moves north and east. so we'll be tracking that through the next several hours. as far as futurecast, there it is coming in at 6:00, then between 6:00 and 9:00 pushing further south and east. this storm has had a history of producing damaging winds, tornadoes and even injuries across the northern part of the state with. more on that here's lindsay logue. this morning broken homes and broken hearts. at least three people have died and dozens more are in the hospital. this is new video from overnight from the panhandle. there a tornado ripped through two miles of pensacola destroying entire apartment buildings and town homes. trees are blocking the streets, cars and semis were overturned on i-10. at least six people were hurt in florida. in convent, louisiana, a mobile home park was turned into a scrap yard, barely recognizable

at this hour rescuers are looking for possible survivors. so far at least two people were killed, 30 are in the hospital. 100 trailers in this area were destroyed. in lamar county, mississippi, a tornado picked up a man's home there, tossed it 500 feet. he was inside at the time, he didn't survive. more than two dozen tornadoes have been reported in the region. i will be tracking the damage and bring you new video as the reports come in. live in the studio, lindsay logue, abc action news. good morning. if you're heading out the door now no major problems out there. corey dierdorff is behind the wheel of our live drive cam. he's on 275 around old merton, up to speed in both directions, he just got off the howard frankland and says he could certainly feel the winds so just be careful when you cross the bridges. we have a high wind advisory in effect over the sunshine skyway so especially if you're in a high profile vehicle both hands on the wheel.

mountain during poor visibility conditions. that plane was heading to a spot popular for mountain trecking in the himalayas. coming up on 5:35. hundreds of people showed up to grieve and to support the families of the four victims who were shot and killed in kalamazoo, michigan over the weekend. you see he a large crowd that gathered for a vigil last night at the cracker barrel where jason dalton opened fire on saturday. a friend of the victim says all four women killed were very close friends. the woman who organized the vigil says she go it to honorar -- did it to honor their memory and to bring business back to that restaurant. >> very unfortunate what has gone on. now the focus i think needs to be on the victims' families and >> family and friends of the victims say they are just hoping the fear that a lot of people in the community are time. meanwhile we're learning new details now about what the accused gunman, jason dalton

a gun shop owner says dalton came into his store and bought a jacket with an inside pocket designed for a hand gun. the owner says dalton was laughing and joking, even gave the managary hug before leaving the store -- manager a hug before leaving the store. he's charged with several counts of murder. a violent rampage in phoenix leaves five family members including a 6-year-old dead. authorities say that suspect shot four of his family members yesterday morning while the house was on fire. responding, firefighters battling the blaze trying to make way for officers to deal with the shooter. authorities are still investigating what led up to the shooting and fire. a florida mother is in jail after shocking claims, police in altamonte springs say virginia ortego murdered her own son. some people were saying there's a history of violence between

a 13-year-old is in custody after taking off on a crime spree after nearly two hours. deputies say the teen stole a van at a day care and tried to break into a cell tech store. you can see surveillance video of the teen even trying to climb to the roof, the owner chases the boy off. the boy runs back to the day care, steals another van. the day care is owned by a nonprofit organization. >> i think we happened to fall in the line of sight for this young man. there are vans right there, no one watching them. >> the teen reportedly crashed the van at 78th street south and madison avenue. he tried to steal a bike and hid in a wooded area where deputies caught him. he faces multiple charges including burglary and grand theft. accusations of racism sparking change in the city of tampa. 11 people were sworn in last night to make up the city's first citizen review board. the group of lawyers, judges, community activists and business owners are tasked with reviewing a variety of closed

use of force cases. members of that board say the diversity that makes it up will be key to its success. >> i have seen what's happened in other cities. i don't believe we have a problem here, but i want to be a part of making sure that those things don't happen here. >> the board meetings are set for every third tuesday of the month. we're just learning new information about that west palm beach teen accused of posing as a doctor. he's facing more trouble now according to a del ray beach auto dealership. it says malaki love robinson bounced an $1,800 check, a down payment on the 2016 mazda the teen bought in june. the dealership is now filing suit against that 18-year-old. it's 5:38. the hard rock hotel and casino is searching for a few good men. in fact a lot of good men. they are hosting a hiring event today, looking for male beverage servers.

good morning. 5:4p a high wind advisory is in effect for the sunshine skyway bridge. if you drive a high profile vehicle, suv or van take note. the high winds are ahead of a storm system that is headed our way. ivan is tracking that and gives us a look at that in a moment. an alabama family has been awarded $72 million in a lawsuit they filed against johnson & johnson over talcum powder. jacqueline fox died of ovarian cancer in october of last year. she was 62 years old. she had used johnson & johnson talc based baby powder and shower-to-shower for years. on monday a jury in st. louis, missouri found a company liable for her death. the family and her attorneys say the lawsuit wasn't about the money, it was about warning other women. >> finally the truth has come to light. the jury rightly exposed the conduct of johnson & johnson and has made known the fact

cause ovarian cancer. it's been known by over -- for over 30 years by the industry but they've hidden the truth. >> this is the first time a u.s. jury awarded monetary damages over claims about talcum powder. johnson & johnson says it will appeal the verdict. many people rally outside apple stores nationwide in support of the company's decision to resist an fbi order to hack into a terrorist's i- phone. rallies were held outside 30 apple locations from boston to san diego. protesters say the order would compromise their own privacy. now the associated press has learned that apple wants the fight taken up by congress decide. apple will argue that the court order to hack the i-phone is improper under an 18th century law. the i-phone at the center of the fight belonged to syed farook, he and his wife shot and killed 14 people and injured 22 others in san bernardino last december.

again tornado watch box in effect for our northern counties, citrus, pasco, hernando. in fact that is in effect until 10:00 a.m. where conditions are more favorable for the thunderstorms we're expecting to roll in, to have rotation. that is tornadic cells further north. the rest of us under the gun for some strong to even severe thunderstorms for the remainder of the day. in fact through the midday hours. 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. across the north. the worst of the weather then. and 9:00 to noon further south and east with damaging wind potential and again isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out. across the north the threat is a little greater there. watch on the titan doppler radar, there's the watch box, thunderstorms a little further to the west now and they will be approaching our area, look at this cluster here, nasty- looking cell, as it continues to move to the north and east. they're moving rapidly -- moving north and east. that is why it's going to take a while for to it get here.

after 6:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. this. cluster still last a couple of hours before it begins to move in to the north and east. so we'll watch that closely as we head into the next several hours. as far as your forecast, by the way, the winds strong today out ahead of the storm. then they are going to be strong again tomorrow. we'll get through the storms this afternoon and then we clear out actually by the evening commute, i think you'll be in better shape. windy tomorrow, temperatures in the 60s. and thereafter we clear out, and stay cool, we're not going to warm up until the early part of next week with highs by then into the 70s. no rain here, that is just scheduled for today and of course will come in, in the form of strong thunderstorms. we'll keep you posted. let's get back on the roads. we've already have had the wind advisory in effect. we've been talking about the high winds, corey dierdorff is behind our live drive cam. you're on the howard frankland, are you feeling the winds? >> reporter: definitely feeling the winds starting to pick up.

pick up as we moved through the 5:00 hour ahead of the storm system that ivan was just talking about. it's not to the point to where you're getting blown from lane- to-lane but you're definitely feeling gusts pushing the vehicle just a little as you cross the bridges. as far as problems go on the howard frankland bridge north and southbound in the tampa area and st. pete looking good. one car stalled there on the side of the road, not causing delays. that is just before the hump. everybody up to speed. the high winds affecting the bridges to the north. what about the sigh skyway to the south? >> we have a advisory for the sunshine skyway. it's not causing delays though. still just nine minutes across the skyway from toll booth to toll booth. across the other bridges we're looking pretty good as far as your drive times go. >> your drive through downtown tampa on 275 looking great as well, five minutes from i-4 to

six minutes in the opposite direction. 5:48. friends and family are mourning the loss of a car max worker near los angeles. he was killed during a test drive with a customer who crashed into a tree. witnesses say the red corvette was speeding when the driver lost control yesterday afternoon. the customer driving was injured. the car max employee was in the passenger seat, died from his injuries. one of the co-workers says he'll be greatly missed. >> he was the guy at work, it doesn't matter what kind of day you were having he was there for you. he would make you laugh. he would make you smile. >> 28-year-old alex dimitro was testing, he's charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs. a blind man in beijing, china now has his stolen guide dog back after the thief apparently had a change of heart. this got a lot of media attention in china because there are only about 100 guide dogs in that country. the black lab served as a guide dog for six years until she was stolen.

a tornado watch in effect covering several bay area counties as we track the potential for strong thunderstorms on the way. ivan is timing out the storms. hopefully parents can get their kids to school and get themselves to work before the storms hit. >> the earliest the better because we have the watch in effect until 10:00 a.m. we'll track the storms in a second to be able to see how soon we are talking about their arrival. as far as the watch that continues until 10:00 a.m. that just means our northernmost counties have the most favorable conditions as far as rotating thunderstorms but the rest of us not out of the woods. in fact all of us getting wet today and some of the thunderstorms even further south could be strong to even severe with damaging wind 6:00 to 10:00 a.m.

9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the south. that is the timing as far as the worst of the weather here. the light rain will begin to move in, in the next half-hour. we'll begin to get wet across citrus and hernando. the nasty thunderstorms, the ones that could bring severe wind gusts are still about an hour to two hours away as we continue to move north and east. again it's going to take a while for the southern end of this line to get towards the central and southern counties here. what we can expect? wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour and in fact this is showing rotation now, if this thwere to make it on shore as is now we would probably get a tornado warning, at least a severe thunderstorm warning. we'll wait and see if the cell continues to show that rotation and whether it holds. again the southern end showing a lot of lightning as well. by the way all out ahead of this, very gusty winds, look at sarasota, 33 mile-per-hour wind gusts and the thunderstorms haven't arrived. that is just the wind ahead of the storm. we'll continue to see wind
