many have been waiting for. and we say good morning on this friday morning. we'll start with the breaking details about the rampage in kansas by one count, the nation's 33rd mass shooting so far this year. >> heavily armed officers with guns drawn flooded the area around the lawn mower plant. one of the workers had already killed three and wounded more than a dozen people killed by police. >> the frightening incident playing out in hesston, kansas and abc's clayton sandell is there. >> reporter: police say 38-year-old cedric ford started shooting at random drivers shooting two before he headed to excel where he worked. is frajic. >> reporter: he heads inside armed with a rifle and handgun co-workers. >> i saw people running out saying, run, run and pop, pop, pop, pop, pop is all i heard and

i didn't realize what happened until i saw wounded people coming out. >> reporter: police and witnesses say he kept shooting until a single officer fires back. >> there was a particular law enforcement here in hesston that responded right away and even though he took fire he went inside of that place and saved multiple, multiple lives, a hero as far as i'm concerned. >> reporter: in the end four employees including the shooter would not survive. many more wounded. >> inside the building he shot a total of 15 people. >> reporter: around 150 employees were inside at the time, worried friends and family waited outside for news. >> i can't believe the guy that shot people up lived right across the street from us. >> reporter: not much is known yet about the victims who have not been identified. ford has an extensive criminal record in florida. police aren't saying why they believe he opened fire but they've ruled out terrorism.
