live, from the station taking action for you, this is abc action news. now at 6:00, fighting back, residents of one community fuming. the two reasons they feel their neighborhood could be ruined. a teen pilot makes an emergency landing in saint pete. what went wrong and how things took a turn for the worse. thank you for joining us. >> i'm john sable. happening now, a plane is sitting in the middle of a saint pete golf course after making an emergency landing. >> both people on board are okay. abc action news reporter joins us live from the lakewood golf course with more on what happened. kara?

here it is right here. this is 1939 two seater airplane that had to make that emergency landing. it was flying from the direction in which we're standing through here when it was trying to make the direction this direction and clipped the tree with the wing on the front of the plane and spun around to the position you currently see it sitting in. an 18-year-old pilot and his dad had taken off from lake land this afternoon and lost engine power in south saint pete while heading to manatee county. albert airport. but they couldn't. they had to make that emergency landing here on the twelfth fair way of the golf course. they landed safe, a miracle no one on the plane or the ground was hurt. >> i was concerned. when i seen the plane. from the damage you would think somebody got injured. injured. >> reporter: no fuel did leak from this plane at all. investigators have been to the out. what their doing right now,

wing off the crashed plane. they're taking the second wing off now so it can be loaded on to wreckers and lawmakers aid way from here. -- and hauled away from here. kara, abc action news. as kara mentioned, this golf course was the scene of another emergency landing seven years ago. take a look at video from that crash landing back on christmas eve of 2009. that time the pilot had to land because of engine problems and he managed to walk away with only a small scratch. tonight though, another problem for allegiant airlines. a flight bound for the st. petersburg clear water airport is now grounded in indiana. a passenger actually snapped this picture for us as emergency crews rushed over to the plane. pilots aborted the take off from fort wayne because of mechanical problems. airline officials tell us they moved passengers to a different flight. those people should arrive here at 7:00 tonight. and for the inconvenience, all of them received an allegiant

a hulk hogan business is now shut down and considered unsafe. it was evacuated during an autograph signing. a large crowd gathered to meet hogan. it'll be closed until an engineer can check it out. the trial begins monday. this just in deputies in hernando county tracked down a fugitive wanted for three felonies. we told you about the man hunt for david senior the 41-year- old was on the run for more than a week. he was captured today in hillsborough county. some living in medera beach say their community could be jeopardized. combined, they'll add approximately 160 condo units and 700 hotel rooms to the small beach town. as jake peterson shows us, some residents are fighting back. >> people are concerned. they've lived here for a long time.

driving this group of snug harbor condo residents to organize against the two proposed projects the city is considering selling this lot to a developer who wants to turn it into this, it's called the holiday aisles project. it'll be decked out with hotel rooms, condos, and even a restaurant. the news of the project last month frustrated these residents. >> what the city wants to do is clear waterrize medera beach. the central business section. >> and then this second project is being proposed this month. the developer tells abc action news it'll help beautify medera beach. >> reporter: the first proposed project is next to the condo building. the second is across the street. residents worry about the influx of traffic. >> it's going to dump 12,000 plus cars a day on the streets. it's going to cause public safety problems when there are huge crowds of people here. >> they believe traffic would be harmful during a natural disaster.

way is essentially the only hurricane evacuation route. and these plans would essentially jam the traffic -- the cause way here. >> reporter: builders say they're working with fdot on traffic plans. >> we want this to be the entry way to paradise. >> reporter: if it resembles the high-rises on places like clear water beach, these residents say no thanks. >> medera beach doesn't need a traffic issue. i think that's one of the main issues the citizens are concerned about. >> reporter: jake peterson, abc action news. another community staging a new protest against the proposed interstate expressway known as tbx, dozens marched the street to fight the fdot project. the multibillion dollar plan would expand interstates through the area to add toll lanes. it aims to relieve the traffic problem. but the group stop tbx says it won't help and it would force more than 100 homes, businesses, and historic

a florida police department says someone is camming people pretending to be an officer. >> these calls are an attempt to scam people out of cash. multiple people reported these calls. officers call it spoofing when someone makes it look like the call is coming from a different number. they say the callers claim to be from the department. then demand a payment for credit agency. even threatening to arrest them. so far they haven't heard of anyone falling victim to the scam. if you get a call like this, you should call police to see if it's legitimate. two bay area women who devote their lives to educating others are now getting a boost in their own educations. these two teachers were named hometown teachers. anita and kelly. miss nita teachers gardening for middle school kids. this honor comes with a scholarship to online classes.

happening tomorrow, another great day to enjoy the festival of the arts. you can see by all the people converging at curtis hickson waterfront park today could not have gone better. the 46th annual event brings so much color to downtown. more than 233 artists participate. and each year it grows. what makes this such a great family event is there's something for all ages. and for those shows off their wares, the festival continues tomorrow from 10:00 to 5:00. a first time event hosted by the tampa bay buccaneers in hopes of setting an example toward equality. they invited twelve high schools to compete in a girl's flat football match. the goal to bring awareness to

to be an awesome day. we're going to get a cold front through tonight. much. it's a weak cold front. no rain associated with it. that much. but it'll be warming up tomorrow. and really warming into the workweek as well. right now we're clear on titan both sides of the state scanning for you. and we ain't seeing no green blobs at all. no rain around except a little the east coast. coming in. kind of pushed across the gulf of mexico from the yukotan penninsula. but as that front kind of drops through, we'll clear out over night and things will cool off. it got up to 72 at tampa international airport today. the over night low was 52. so a little bit cooler than normal. but still, just a gorgeous day. and there's more of that on the way. tampa right now, 66 degrees. the dew point at 51. winds out of the northwest at 8 miles per hour. 61 in clear water. northwest winds at 10 and st.

north winds at 10 at albert airport. look at the warmth up into the north of the state. 71 in tallahassee. 74 in miami. everybody else in between those numbers. here across the state of florida. we're watching some warm weather work its way up through the middle of the country as it stays cool across the northeast and wet and stormy out west. there's a storm system bringing high waves, lashing winds, and loads of rain down in through the pacific northwest and into central california. this is the front that's going to come pushing through. it's going to be very quick moving. and while it comes through over night. we have no real rain chances. and the skies remain mostly on the clear side. here's the way things look over the next 48 hours with our rpm forecast model. maybe a scattered rain drop or two on the east coast. it's not going to get here. looking for an over night low of 55 for tampa. 58 in st. petersburg. 55 for seminole.
