from the teamsters aviation mechanics. comes right after an allegiant plane's takeoff was aborted in fort wayne, indiana saturday because of smoke in the cabin. that plane was headed here to st. pete/clearwater airport. >> i was towards the back on the right-hand side, heard a big pop. i thought it sounded like tire popping. they immediately slowed down, turned and let us know it was something that was outside -- or in the engine that we can see actually outside our window. something had fallen off one of the right engines. >> reporter: less than a month ago a flight that took off from st. pete clearwater made an emergency landing in alabama because of an electrical odor in the cabin. in january the chief operating officer stepped down. all that on the heels of a year's worth of safety concerns. one former mechanic telling abc action news in december that all the issues are why he resigned. >> typically i was observing they just didn't know what they were doing but still moving on to dispatch the plane.

complaints and the report expected monday allegiant insists the pilots' union is making false accusations in the middle of contract negotiations and that its planes are safe saying in a statement "it's irresponsible and reckless for the teamsters to make unfounded claims regarding safety to the public in order to circumvent media associations " >> we point out the union issuing the report has been battling with allegiant for months over a new contract and threatened to strike at one point theune gun responds saying -- union responds saying the numbers are clear there have been 100 delayed flights, emergency landings or other safety issues in the past five months. story. we are learning about it because of a lawsuit filed.

last summer and suddenly sucked into a massive intake pipe from the st. lucie nuclear power plant. christopher lacoon said he tumbled through the pipe for five minutes and quarter mile. a friend diving with him watched in horror thinking christopher had died. christopher also said he thought he was not going to make it out alive. >> it could have killed me. i just contemplated -- i pulled the regulator out of my mouth, should i -- i said should i do that and die? started to think about my family. >> he said he wound up in a holding pond at the power plant. now suing florida power and light because he says the pipe wasn't properly marked. company officials say he bypassed a warning buoy. and it gets more bizarre, this happened before. another diver describes the same five minutes of terror in 1989. a florida woman was so drunk police say she didn't

truck into four people at daytona international speedway. officers say 43-year-old abby kinney of cocoa beach crashed into the group after 2:00 yesterday morning. her truck also hit five campers parked at the truck infield. police say she failed several sobriety test and allegedly told officers "i shouldn't have been driving." >> she came out of the truck and was stumbling. she didn't know where she was. >> police arrested her with dui, careless driving, injuring four. no word on the victims' conditions yet. sphowr burglars ram their car -- four burglars ram their car into a san francisco gun store yesterday. they say the security system was disabled and the men grabbed 18 handguns worth $12,000. investigators identified the

to catch the thieves. democracy 2016 -- last night hillary clinton and bernie sanders were face-to- face clashing again on stage. meeting a day after sanders won two state caucuses. >> the fiery debate happened two days before the all important michigan primary. abc's richard cantu explains the special significance of the city where the two confronted each other. >> reporter: sunday's debate was held in the whrieghted city of -- blighted city of flint where lead pollution polluted the tap water. >> dereliction of duty, resign. >> i want us to have an absolute commitment to getting rid of lead. >> reporter: the candidates clashed over economic policy. sanders citing clinton's support for free trade policies. >> secretary clinton supported virtually every one of these disastrous trade agreements written by corporate america. the money that ended up saving the auto industry. >> if you are talking about the wall street bailout where some of your friends destroyed this economy -- you know. >> excuse me. i'm talking. >> let him -- >> he charged clinton is too cozy with business. >> i don't give speeches to wall street for hundreds of thousands. >> i have said repeatedly no bank is too big to bank. no executive too powerful to jail. >> reporter: tempers flared with the stakes high. >> can i finish please? >> reporter: on super saturday bernie sanders won two out of three democratic contests but hillary clinton has a large lead in pledged delegates. a new poll gives her a double gigit lead over sanders in tuesday's michigan primary, 57% to 40%. sanders pledged to keep the campaign going to the democratic convention this summer even if clinton has enough delegates to clinch the nomination.

spending time in florida this week including the bay area. the former secretary of state announcing she will hold a rally in tampa thursday, a day after she participates in a debate against bernie sanders again at miami-dade college. it will be 11:30 in the morning, still don't know exactly where. friday chelsea clinton will be in tampa fundraising for her mother. on the republican side republican senator marco rubio is also visiting the bay area this week ahead of next week's florida primary. rubio has a rally at 5:00 center. rubio's rally tomorrow at 5:00 is at the dolphin aviation hangar hangar in sarasota. a victory large enough that rubio won all 23 delegates from the u.s. territory. the other victory in minnesota. overshadowed of course by donald trump and ted cruz.

next tuesday. yesterday donald trump called on rubio to drop out after winning no states on saturday. >> marco rubio had a very bad night, and personally i would race. i want ted one-on-one. >> we will win florida. we will beat donald trump there the way we beat crist. >> and former california governor arnold schwarzenegger announces he's backing the ohio governor. a bay area congressman is expected to announce today he's running for re-election this fall. dennis ross comprised a new district, it includes a number of cities. ross says he's making his re- election announcement in all three cities this afternoon. ivan so with the forecast >> you'll need the jacket.

4:44. the flag at the u.s. capitol is at half-staff in honor of former first lady nancy reagan. >> speak of the house paul ryan ordered the flag lowered last night. the former first lady passed away from heart failure at her los angeles home yesterday morning at age 94. >> abc's lauren lister explains a decades long love affair. >> nancy reagan seen smiling at her 94th birthday party last summer. is today being celebrated and mourned for all her years of life. well wishers dropping off flowers. loved ones pulling into the l.a. family estate to pay respects. the hearse escorted through town. the former actress, married ronald reagan in 1952. and as first lady of california and then the nation, is remembered for bringing some hollywood glamour to the white house and for her crusade against youth substance abuse.

she will be buried alongside her beloved late husband. it's going to be a great day today. looking at upper 70s by later this afternoon. hope you enjoyed your weekend. we were mostly in the 70s, a bit of a cool start if you were up early you felt. that that is the case again today with temperatures in the 50s and even 40s. up to the north. that is cold stuff. now that we're getting closer to mid-march the numbers will eventually go away but for now we'll start at least the beginning part of the week with cooler temperatures. area of high pressure, by the way, very strong for this time of year is going to set up and already has, in fact it's going to strengthen. what that will co, provide with us a southeasterly flow, warm weather flow and also block, an atmospheric block. nothing its going to get by this thing at least for a time. it's going to take a while for things to begin to break down.

but looks like it's going to approach and arrive for the weekend. we have time to watch it. things can change but i'll keep timing. it was friday, now it's pushed to saturday. is. temperature later today in the mid and upper 70. not as cool tomorrow morning. us out. even up to mid-80s by middle part of the week across the interior. on the 7-day forecast, let's show you tuesday, with temperatures approaching 80. it's going took dry week as that high is in charge. 81 by wednesday afternoon. and look at the temperatures through the overnight. not as cool with lower 60s. by the way the humidity still in check. we're not quite in that time of wind. a little higher but certainly not as high as we could go this time of year. basically comfortable through the weekend. rain chances coming back for saturday. want to look live at the morning commute.
