call about a man here in the parking lot screaming, waving a gun. that is when four deputies arrived to check things out. deputies say they tried to get cassell to drop that weapon but he would not. instead they say he approached them aggressively pointing that gun in for a for their safety they say they -- in fear for their safety they say they shot him multiple times. investigators have been speaking with witnesses to get more information. again the suspect in the case, 27-year-old jeffrey cassell died at the hospital. at this point the four deputies involved have been placed on leave which is routine as this investigation goes through. we're also told jeffrey caiel had a history with the -- cassell had a history with the law. we'll have more on that later this morning. rodney dunigan, abc action news. we've been much cooler the last couple of days. in the morning.

higher humidity makes it feel nice. warm breezy later today and temperatures once again go into the 70s. by 9:00 we should be hitting that mark and well into the 70s. look at that, 80 by 1:00. then low 80s as we head into the afternoon and evening commute which once again like yesterday dry. and the wind won't be too much of an issue. a little breezy but no real problems on the skyway. pretty good on the roads unless you're on i-4 where we have a crash that we've been following for a little while now. it's blocking the outside lane around 50th street. you can see the flashing lights. we have a car that looks like it ran off the road near this wall over there. so cars are slowing down to take a look. let's check drive times to see if it's causing any significant delays. we're still in the green on i-4 heading westbound, 23 minutes from county line road to downtown. 15 minutes from county line road to 75. and just eight minutes from 75 to 275. i have been checking that

southbound 275 around kennedy. it's cleared. so no trouble there. we also know that the construction in manatee at university parkway and 275 is cleared as well. breaking overnight -- before you got up this morning 911 calls fraud flooded in as a man went the wrong way down 301 and river view. then a dramatic chase. corey dierdorff has more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. drivers scrambling to call 911. deputies rushing to stop traffic. all ending here behind me on u.s. 301 after that wrong way driver led hillsborough county deputies on a wild chase. this started with three 911 calls at the same time saying a black dodge dakota was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of u.s. 301 just south of county road 672. the deputies trying to stop

trying to get dakota to stop. deputies called for air support, deployed stop sticks and were able to flatten one of the front tires of the suv. that kept going. deputies forced to use a pit technique. the subject still ran into a patrol car before stopping. this is a past mug shot of derek hyde who has a long list of charges including fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and possession of drugs. that possession charge after deputies found a large one pound bag of a powdery substance. they are going to send it for testing and will try to confirm if it was drugs or not. the good news, no one was hurt neither deputies or other motorists. corey dierdorff, abc action news. breaking news in democracy 2016 -- bernie sanders pulls off a surprise upset in michigan beating hillary clinton in what experts say is one of the biggest surprise upsets in primary history. this is a look at where things

interview with abc news was a violation because it had nothing to do with the trial preparations. this morning new testimony from camille cosby, she says she never read a deposition where her husband, comedian bill cosby acknowledged he gave sedatives to women he was planning to have sex with. testimony she gave just last month was just released as part of a request from bill cosby's lawyers. they are trying to suspend a civil lawsuit against him in massachusetts while a criminal case is pending in pennsylvania. he's charged with sexually assaulting a former university employee. alimony and child custody laws could be changing soon in florida. the state house passed the bill yesterday which ends permanent alimony. it replaces it with a formula based on the length of the marriage and spouse's incomes. governor scott vetoed a similar bill in 2013 because it was retroactive. the governor hasn't said whether he'll sign this new version headed to his desk.

known manatee county dog. we've learned the owner of patty the dog won't face any criminal charges most likely. the manatee county sheriff says they don't believe a crime occurred when patty bit a 4- month-old service dog in training at hits owner's bradenton pet clinic. service dogs are protected under the law but detectives say it just appears to be an unfortunate accident. the case is now being forwarded to the state attorney's office for review. patty was saved from being put down last year after biting a young boy who provoked him. a bay area mother pleading for your help. michael geraldo is laying in a california hospital. the victim of a vicious beating. michael's family wants to bring him home but it requires medical transport costing $30,000. it's a bill their insurance won't cover and money they don't have. >> it's hard to sit beside my son everyday and watch him and i know he's fighting.

i'm janelle martinez in the traffic center. you're looking live at i-4 around 50th street. a crash blocking, looks like two lanes there in the outside. i am starting to see delays building. i'll tell you how bad they are coming up in a few minutes. 5:44. a northern california commuter train will be back in service today after a derailment late monday night. just hours after we brought you this story as breaking news yesterday we learned a mudslide sweeping across the tracks most likely caused that accident. sent the train's lead car into a swollen creek. large cranes worked to pull the

creek and move others down the tracks. railroad officials say the train wasn't speeding at the time of the derailment. another story is going viral stemming from the derailment. >> it was on facebook. a close call for a san francisco reporter, really close call. alex savadge was covering that yesterday when look what happens, the car careens right to him and his photographer. he said his photographer started to yell get out of the way! >> i just would like to thank tim for -- thanks buddy. >> you're all right. >> scary. >> i don't know -- my wife is not watching. i haven't been able to call, tell my wife i'm ok. >> yes. >> we will do that. >> in case she hears it on- line. >> neither of them was injured , the cause of the crash still under investigation. a driver in philadelphia now has a traffic ticket for losing control of his car and crashing on the roof of a grocery store.

in the road and plod through a brick wall -- plowed through a brick wall, tore a hole in the grocery store. the car leaked gas and prompted the store to evacuate and close for a while. people who live near the store say they heard a loud bang and looked outside. >> i was sitting on the couch watching tv, heard a bang. i went to the bedroom, opened the window and see a car on the roof. the guy is standing there, i asked him if he's all right. he said yeah, i'm all right. >> crane lifted it off, the store reopened later in the afternoon. there are no reports of serious injuries. let's check in and look at the temperatures now, in the 60s, fantastic stuff. higher humidity makes it feel very comfortable but rainfall has been impacting texas, we've had tornado watch boxes, severe thunderstorm watch boxes, what you see here is the result of what has been quite the number of days of accumulating rainfall there with upwards of a foot of rainfall. eventually this system will move east.

because of this strong high pressure, the one that brought us the fantastic weather, the warm temperatures and the southeast flow. eventually that will break down and i think it will rain, it arrives in the form after few showers but it will hold off until sunday so we have time to get ready for that. that is really the nice stretch here, the entire week dry. we've been climbing everyday as far as the temperatures today will hit the low 80s. 81 yesterday. 80 monday. i think today we're going for 83 and again we're going to do that with full sunshine again. a little breezy at times but doing pretty good. then again on saturday and heading into sunday rain chances on saturday, a couple of showers, can't rule it out. in fact the next couple days, may be able to drop that, feeling good about saturday. sunday that will be the day we're talking about, a few showers, something a little more widespread here and mostly cloudy skies. by the way, look what happens on sunday as well.

the clocks forward, janelle. it's here. we basically turned the corner. summer's coming. >> you know what else happens on sunday? my birthday. gosh. >> big changes. >> we'll tweet that. as far as traffic goes, we're following this crash on i- 4 westbound around 50th street. we now have the outside lane blocked and inside lane blocked the further down -- can't see it on camera. we're starting to see backups happening here on i-4. let's look, just a little further back around mlk and you can see it looks like a parking lot here. i did check the camera just a little further back at hillsborough, not that bad so the backup seems to really start here at mlk. you might even consider getting off the interstate there and avoiding some of this mess there. i just checked drive times, still just 10 minutes to get from 75 to 275. so just a few minutes slow there. the average speed on i-4 westbound, 52, so not terrible right now. but looking great on i-75 southbound from the apex to i-

looking great over in pinellas county, 275 from the sunshine skyway to the howard frankland, 68 miles per hour. back to you. this morning a push is on for the consumer product safety commission to take action about a rash of glass oven doors shattering. >> hundreds of people are sharing pictures of their shattered glass oven doors on social media. so far most of the injuries though have been minor but this is happening to brands like whirl pool, ge and kenmore. the sears kenmore 790 model generates the most complaints so far. one customer says her door broke three times. a whirl pool customer says hers broke twice and karen baker in south florida says the glass door on her oven shattered during a cleaning cycle. >> very loud solid boom, like a little gunshot went off in the kitchen. the entire thing shattered, half of it shot shot out the bottom and they are in small pieces. >> whirlpool gave her a

he was banned last year from soccer over ethics violation but could face prison time if found guilty of bribery. for trouble for chipotle. a massachusetts chipotle is now temporarily closed after one of its employees was diagnosed with the norovirus. two other employees at that restaurant are also suspected of having this virus. so far there have been no reports of any customers getting sick. the closure comes after a nearby chipotle closed after 150 of its customers were diagnosed with the norovirus in december. chipotle is still reeling from an e. coli outbreak at several of its locations. as we like to say another day in paradise and -- temperatures in the upper 70s to around 80. the course the problem is the water temperature. a little cool for a lot of us. a lot cool in fact. mid-60s. but full sunshine. can you imagine being on the beach and the sun completely vanishing?

in micronesia where sky watchers saw a spectacular show this morning. the only total solar eclipse, darkened skies across irish asia, western pacific. moon blocking the sun. spectacular for them but we missed out at least this year. >> at least this year. next year is the big year. we get a big treat. the first total solar eclipse visible in the u.s. since 1979 will cross the lower 48. august 21, 2017. next summer. there's probably a lot of hotels and resorts that are planning big events around this. >> we'll all see it except the good spot i guess up towards the central part of the country. that is going to be spectacular. 1979. i was still in kindergarten, goodness. >> this is the most visible eclipse in human history. more people will see that eclipse next summer than all of human history. >> and of course if you can't make it it will be on the news.

let's check with janelle but things are moving smoothly in west tampa now? >> no trouble in west tampa but trouble on i-4, a crash blocking some lanes around 50th street westbound. you can see a lot of the flashing lights here. we have one outside lane blocked and one inside lane blocked so cars are getting through in the middle. let me show you at mlk you can see some of the backup here, just looks like a bunch of lights just sitting there, though i did just check the drive time and we're just a few minutes slow, i think traffic is still light so right now it's taking 10 minutes to get from 75 to 275. let's show you the area on a map. this is where the crash is on i- 4, if you're heading on i-4 you may want to get off at mlk and take mlk right into tampa. that will save you a lot of time this morning. if this crash doesn't move soon we will start to see congestion build even more. on i-4. i will keep an eye on it and will keep you posted. as far as the weather goes. >> you know what else you can do?

it's just so mild out there, the humidity back up. so we're turning the corner as we -- >> if you're stuck on i-4 just open the windows? >> absolutely. then you have the car exhaust. well, let's check on conditions now as i walk backward here and show what you is happening with temperatures in the mid- 60s. east southeast wind. continuing with fantastic weather for today. with temperatures in the mid- 60s in tampa, clearwater and now 64, all of us getting into the low 80s, do i think by the afternoon. we're going to do that with full sunshine. just a few scattered fair weather clouds, nothing to certainly block the sun or give us any rainfall. but there is rainfall in the 7- day forecast. i'll show that you in a few minutes. let's catch up on more breaking news from overnight. >> first this morning we just learned a man shot by deputies in a north tampa complex has died. deputies say someone called him out to the winwood oaks apartments after spotting jeffrey cassell waving a gun outside his unit.
