it took duke energy polls a couple of hours. the pole is cracked and leaning into the street. a wild police pursuit in polk county. a driver leads authorities on a 14-mile chase from lakeland to polk city. he drove around someone's house before crashing into a fence. he then hit a parked car on the side of the road. we learned this is not went worth's first run-in with the law. he was out on bond for allegedly beating two dogs with a sledgehammer. looking good out there. temps are in the 60s now with an east wind. the east-southeast now to keep us warm. 10 degrees above average. still checking in with bartow at 59. that's about it. all of us in the 60s here in tampa. a warm start to your day and a warm finish as well, temps

here's a look right now at your morning commute. this is i-275. janelle is watching traffic cameras and will have a complete look coming up in a moment. covering polk county, abduction attempt in davenport that we told you about earlier this week. it was fake. polk county deputies said an 11-year-old girl claimed a man tried to lure here into his car made the whole thing up. apparently she was tired of walking a mile from her bus stop to her home. the girl released a statement to the sheriff's office writing "i never meant to hurt anyone or for this to get this big. i just want forgiveness. i'm truly story for making a false report." a shooting and among the victims, a 3-year-old girl. >> neighbors are now very concerned for their safety. >> reporter: pop, pop, pop. >> reporter: the sound of

before 2:00 p.m. neighbors rushing outside to find 23-year-old it rell ho lloman trying to protect a 3- year-old. >> everybody was screaming. i felt helpless because i wanted to do something but couldn't. >> reporter: that neighbor calling 911, sending police searching for the get away car, possibly a white dodge challenger. you can see how big the response is. the police chief and mayor outraged a 3-year-old is caught in the crossfire. >> to the person who did this who is the coward who would shoot a child, we will hunt you, we will find you. >> reporter: just last january, this man was shot in another south st. petersburg drive by. no arrests have been made in that case.

who could be next. sarah rosario, abc action news. officers want to reassure neighbors that this was not a random act of violence. the mayor says he's working with police and city council to address the gun violence in the southern part of the city. an orlando man faces charges after he was caught on camera shooting video up a young girl's skirt. he was caught in the act on two separate occasions last month. the victims are a 5-year-old and 13-year-old. police use video footage to identify irwin, who was positively identified. police say this is a great example of if you see something, say something money florida lawmakers are set to conclude the legislature's 60-day session. one of the last things they have to do is pass the state's $80 billion budget. yesterday, legislators helped

college will cost them. this passes a notice before a vote to raise tuition and fees. it requires schools to post online a list of books required for any class at least 45 days before a semester begins. a new warning right now about the drug spice. tampa says they've seen a recent spike for the synthetic marijuana. paramedics responded to 22 cases involving either admitted or suspected spice use. 12 of those happened on monday alone. today, tampa firefighters, police officers and doctors are coming together to help shine a light on the dangers of spice. in new york city, police announce a massive drug trafficking bust yesterday. officers arrested dozens of gang members who flooded the state with cocaine, heroin and fentanyl. many times they put innocent bystanders in the crossfire. they were selling $10,000 worth of crack a week.

campaigns and raises money for her forth. chelsea plans to talk about ways to make college more affordable for average americans. chelsea's visit comes one day after her mother spoke to a large crowd. she told the crowd she would focus on job creation. she also said she would slow down climate change. a few hours later, senator bernie sanders spoke to thousands at a rally. >> some in the bay area are feeling the burn. >> reporter: the sanders camp is pleased with their momentum after winning michigan this week. that's a huge upset for hillary clinton and senator bernie sanders hopes florida is next. florida has always bane battleground state. the candidates know it, and the voters aren't blind to it.

we were 3% in the polls and about 70 points behind secretary clinton. a lot has happened in the last ten months. >> reporter: bernie sanders is keeping his eyes on florida's 246 delegates as he tries to close clinton's lead. clinton is up by 649 delegates. that fact doesn't discourage the senator's supporters. >> he's really here for the people. >> reporter: these two drove from fort meyers to see the senator. they believe sanders has a shot at winning the democratic nomination, especially after taking michigan. >> don't be cynical. get out and vote. what happened in michigan can happen here in florida. >> reporter: sanders' message to voters is, he's listening. he says he'll continue to speak the truth. >> we will win because the american people know that what every religion in the world has taught us is that at the end of the day, love trumps hatred.

i want to show you video right now from los angeles where 150 firefighters battled this massive fire for hours overnight. you can see the enormous flames shooting from the 70,000 square foot building. the fire is so big, all firefighters could do was watch the roof collapse and make sure the flames didn't spread to any adjacent buildings. the cause of the fire is still not known. it is a tough anniversary for japan. five years ago, we watched as

the earthquake struck off the japanese coast. >> the quake and tsunami left 16,000 people dead, 2500 still missing. this morning, tourists offer prayers at a makeshift offer in a town where 43 workers died. much of the coastline was empty except for mounds of dirt that are being piled up in an effort to minimize risks. many survivors have moved further inland where the government is providing low- cost housing. we have only three days left for the strawberry festival. if you are going, tanya tucker canceled her performance because of complications with bronchitis. if you bought tickets, you can either say anderson in her place or get a refund.

when deputies arrived and surrendered peacefully. our crew is minutes away from the scene and will join us live once they get a chance to talk with authorities. breaking news in tampa when a shots fired call leads to a high-speed chase. this started around 3:30 this morning in the area of yukon and 37th street. when police arrived, multiple out. officers chased one of the cars. one person bailed out and is now in custody. police were able to stop the other car in net park. three more people were taken into custody. we talk about temperatures in the upper 60s right now. we'll eventually make it to the 80s. once again, about 85 and we'll be close to that today with low to mid-80s except for along the coast with the sea breeze kicking in there.
