when deputies arrived and surrendered peacefully. our crew is minutes away from the scene and will join us live once they get a chance to talk with authorities. breaking news in tampa when a shots fired call leads to a high-speed chase. this started around 3:30 this morning in the area of yukon and 37th street. when police arrived, multiple out. officers chased one of the cars. one person bailed out and is now in custody. police were able to stop the other car in net park. three more people were taken into custody. we talk about temperatures in the upper 60s right now. we'll eventually make it to the 80s. once again, about 85 and we'll be close to that today with low to mid-80s except for along the coast with the sea breeze kicking in there.

we do have rain upstream. we'll be talking about when that arrives, how much we'll get when i see you in a few minutes. let's head over to the traffic center and check in with nell martinez on this friday. >> we start off with construction and first we go out to corey dierdorff. we're heading southbound right around causeway boulevard. looks like he stopped at a red light there. no crashes and breakdowns where he is. if he finds anything that might slow you down, he will let me know about it, and i will let you know right here. we have the construction project going on at the 54th avenue south ramp that is blocked until 6:00 a.m. they have been wrapping up that work early. we have construction going on until about 6:00. university parkway is closed right now in both directions right at i-75. this is in sarasota.

about 6:00 in the morning. for more updates, follow me on twitter. tampa bay traffic, back to you. coming up right now, we're getting more details about the manhunt going on in pinellas county for the person who shot two people, including a 3-year- old. that drive by happened in broad daylight in south st. pete right near tropicana field. the other person shot is a 23- year-old. terryl holliman was standing on a porch with a 3-year-old when the shots rang out. police are looking for a dodge challenger. police say this is not a random act of violence. a neighbor who didn't want to show her face says holliman was shot trying to protect that 3- year-old. >> everybody screaming. the guy that got shot was screaming.

>> a child caught in the crossfire infuriates the police chief who says this must stop. holliman was the victim of a drively last year in st. pete. still no arrest in that case. police won't say if these two are related. both victims are expected to make a full recovery. turning our attention to democracy 2016 starting with a possible endorsement for donald trump. former rival wen carson today is expected to throw his support behind the gop front- runner for the presidential election. one of the anonymous people leaking the information says carson was torn between trump and ted cruz. they say they chose trump because the cruz campaign started that rumor ahead of the iowa caucuses that carson had dropped out of the race. official word of the endorsement will likely come from trump this morning in west palm beach. you can count on abc action news to send out a push alert to your phone when that happens.

when the republican candidates hit the stage for the final debate ahead of the florida debates. here's more now from miami. >> reporter: a do or die debate for marco rubio in front of a home crowd. they kick it off on stage with comprehensive immigration reform and social security. marco rubio taking that head on saying for his generation, the age would have to be bumped up to 68 but he wouldn't change anything for the older generation. the moderators also touching on trump's controversial comment to cnn where he said islam hates us, meaning americans. >> we have a serious, serious problem of hate. there is tremendous hate. on this dark trend in hopes of avoiding dangerous incidents in the future. a 15-mile chase in polk county as you can see video. he drove them from lakeland to the polk city area. this started after deputies were called to check out a suspicious vehicle. they say when they got there, wentworth was acting suspiciously and said he didn't want to go back to jail then took off. he drove off the road and around someone's house before crashing through a fence and hitting a parked car on the side of the road. last year, he was charged and sentenced for beating two dogs with a sledgehammer. we have the chase video on our web site. just head to abcactionnews.com. today, former first lady

>> the firestone grand prix is one of the largest events turning the city's waterfront streets into a race course. abc action news anchor lindsay logue is live at the track. >> gates open soon, right, lindsay? >> reporter: this is one of the most important day of the weekend. they will get a chance to come out and test the course before the competition events start this weekend. as you mentioned, it's one of the biggest events in pinellas county. it draws more than 150,000 race car fans to st. pete every year and more than 1 million will watch the races live on tv. this is a huge economic boost for the area. city officials estimate $48 million into the pockets of is over. of course all of this leads up to the indy 500, the biggest indy race of the year. maybe this year, st. pete will

5:24. we've been watching amazing video and waiting to find out why a driver blew through a red light and caused a vial leapt crash you can see here. >> it ended with five people involved, six people injured. the driver of the white car blew through a red light and slammed head on, went airborne and landed on top of another car. the driver that caused the crash was the only one that was seriously injured.

meantime, ivan has the latest in the weather. >> folks want to know what's going 0 then weekend. temps in the 60s as we have temps climbing from the 60s to the 80s. not just low0s but mid-80s as well. keep in mind, just like yesterday, low humidity. uncomfortable here. we'll be back into the 70s and hit 08 at noon and -- hit 80 at noon and continue that way through the evening commute. tomorrow continues the dry forecast but keep in mind, we have the rain that will be headed our way on sunday. we'll have the timing for that in a couple of minutes as we check in with janelle here in a second. low to mid-80s this afternoon and right along the coast, a yellow hue is depicting the sea breeze.
