all the details and implications with team coverage and analysis. good wednesday morning, everyone. we'll get started with a potentialing turning point in the presidential race. of course, the front-runners who were cementing their status overnight. >> and taking a look at the latest results, democrats, hillary clinton winning in the south, florida and ohio and illinois. >> among the republicans donald trump claiming victory in florida, north carolina and, of course, in illinois but then you had governor john kasich, putting his first win on the board in ohio. we're covering all of it, all the campaigns this morning but republicans. a closer look at that devastating loss for marco rubio in florida and nearly 20-point trouncing by trump putting an end to rubio's campaign. >> and in ohio, kasich coming away with a sizable victory.

abc's david wright. >> reporter: hi, reena and kendis, from john kasich headquarters here in ohio, a jubilant mood here, john kasich pulling out a win in his home state. we were with him backstage just before he came out. he was shooting hoops and pretty much shooting the moon that he had pulled it off. >> we're down to three, man, i started at 17. i think we'll do fine. i think we're gaining momentum. people are beginning to realize who i am. >> reporter: the polls as late as tuesday showed him neck and neck with trump here. one of the things that may have helped him is the fact that ohio has an open primary. independent voters can choose to republican side. we met voters who were democrats who chose to vote in the republican race because they wanted to block donald trump. the fact that kasich has won his home state ensures that he moves forward in this contest. he thinks that his victory is in

the winner of the night was hillary clinton. her wins in florida and ohio showing her support in key general election battleground states. >> the closest contest between clinton in sanders in missouri, less than 2,000 votes. >> clinton was named winner in illinois but it was a close race. abc's cecilia vega covers the clinton campaign. good morning, cecilia. >> reporter: reena and kendis, good morning, a huge win for hillary clinton. what happened in this room a complete victory party. she stood on that stage and congratulated senator sanders for waging a vigorous campaign but looking ahead to a general election. >> you voted for our tomorrow to be better than our yesterday. tomorrow where all of us do our part and everyone has a chance to live up to his or her god-given potential. >> what happened here, she avoid

needed to and wanted to especially in ohio where her campaign thought sanders would win young and white voters but that did not happen and also celebrating the big win in florida. more delegates up for grabs in this state than any other that voted on tuesday. she's now looking ahead to that general election preparing very much to face off against donald trump. >> when we hear a candidate for president call for roundnding up 12 million immigrants and banning all muslims from entering the united states. and when he embraces torture that doesn't make him strong, it makes him wrong. >> thank you so much. for bernie sanders, last night was very much about looking ahead. sanders held a rally in phoenix, arizona, where democrats will vote in their primary next tuesday. there's also democratic voting in utah and idaho. the same day. sanders restated his desire to

democratic convention. he called the political status, quote, broken and said it should not be settled for. >> another big series of primaries are in the books. among the key questions that remain now is what's next? >> and we asked abc's political director rick klein for his take. good morning to you, rick. >> reena and kendis, ohio stirred something up that only ohio may be able to settle. that meaning the republican convention over the summer. donald trump a split decision winning a couple of states but losing critical battleground of ohio to john kasich and marco rubio leaving but john kasich likely to emerge as the establishment alternative. when you combine that with ted cruz, you have three moving forward and donald trump is likely to be the person that ends this process with more delegates than anyone else. he is unlikely, though to necessarily have a majority and that means you might have that contested convention, it would be all about ohio so big tests about and big vulnerabilities that reveal themselves around the front-runner.

we're analyzing the exit polls this morning. they reveal a lot about how voters are feeling about all the candidates. >> abc's lauren lyster has been going through all the data and joins us with what she's found, lauren, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. first let's talk donald trump. he showed his continued appeal to dissatisfied gop voters getting the majority of support among those angry at the government who favor banning muslims and who say they're falling behind financially. among non-trump supporters, however, republican exit polls show six in ten saying they would seriously consider a third party candidate if trump became the gop's nominee. and more than 40% say they definitely would not support trump in november if that came to be the case. on the other side of the aisle, 68% of voters see hillary clinton as likeliest of defeating donald trump in november. only 29% are feeling the burn in that way when it comes to bernie sanders but in tuesday's

before we start the main show we have three minutes, three full minutes of weather. let's check in on the fog situation of yesterday. still again today the difference is notice our interior counties here. while looking at half-mile visibility across portions of zephyrhills beginning to drop as well. it will be patchier but dense further inland. along the coast that is where we'll continue with the issues because of the onshore flow. look at sarasota, quarter mile visibility. i just checked with janelle, the skyway is still open but it is unlikely to remain that way. so we'll keep you posted. doesn't look good as conditions are similar to yesterday. checking as far as temperatures in the mid and upper 60s along

a few 70s but generally in the upper 60s. we'll drop a couple more degrees before we get to the afternoon highs which will range big time. satellite and radar not much going on. once the fog lifts it will be our only issue again today. plenty of sunshine by the afternoon. then eventually partly cloudy skies as we heat up for today. heading into the next few days, look at futurecast, you can see boundary that shifts further south. it will clip us, i think tomorrow especially on the nature coast with a couple of showers, not much. rain chance 10% to 20%. then it gets a little more active as we head into the day friday with showers and thunderstorms beginning to develop. then this boundary will push to the south, unfortunately linger into the weekend. it will stall here and we'll have a disturbance that is going to ride look that boundary. that means for us rain chances enhanced friday into saturday and lingering into the early part of sunday so plan

is it going to rain the entire time? no, but a good chunk of it especially on saturday, showers and thunderstorms pretty good bet. 70s with the low cloud deck along the coast and that onshore flow. a little further inland, low 80s. then you keep going and we get into the upper 80s, that's what we had yesterday. with high humidity. that means the 87 will feel like about 91 through the afternoon. keep it in mind. pool weather further east and can't really say beach weather because the low clouds linger through midday and temperature in the 70s. if you're heading out at least the water temperature is nice and milder now certainly for this time of year, we're now in the 70s as opposed to the 60s. again similar conditions as we head through tomorrow. cooler along the coast. inland warm with more fog i think through the early part of tomorrow. we'll cover that story certainly throughout the morning today.
