happened. the runway and that is where the crash happened. if the plane did get airborne, it didn't get too high before it came crashing down, killing the two people on board. the plane was heading to pensacola but obviously did not get far. the plane crashed during takeoff, bursting into flames. there are early reports about a second plane somehow involved. but officials have not yet confirmed if that's true. >> there's a lot of different stories that are circulating right now. and right now it will be up to the f.a.a. to do that investigation. >> reporter: the plane is registered to a local company with ties to tampa pilot steven. we reached him by phone but he was too upset to speak about the crash. the names of the two victims have not yet been released. ryan raiche, abc action news. >> thank you, ryan. this is the latest plane crash at the same spot. >> the airport has been the

in one case a plane flew into a home. we continue with adam walser. what did you find out. >> reporter: serena, we have been looking at the records over the past several years. we have seen other incidents at the airport. since the mid 1970s, 18 other catches have been investigated by the f.a.a. at the airport and several other near misses. the peter o'knight airport has a runway about half the size of the normal runway in the u.s. and sits directly on the bay. visibility problems were to blame in 1975 when buddy colt crashed a single engine plane while returning from a show. he and two other colleagues survived. a third wrestler died. >> he was having what he described either as a sputtering or some type of engine problem. >> reporter: between 1999 and 2006, 7 other people died in crashes in single or twin engine planes.

emergency landed and struck the home of tommy and cynthia tate that was destroyed. the pilot was killed and the copilot was seriously injured. cynthia tate was the only one at home. >> i feel i was so blessed to make it out of the house that day. my heart aches that i couldn't save the animals. i couldn't save the pilot. i couldn't do anything. >> reporter: because the tates didn't have insurance, they were selected to have their home rebuilt by abc's home extreme makeover edition. the home was sold last year. in 2008, miraculously no one died when i asingle engine plane hit the sea wall before the runway. and in 2012, another near miss when a boeing c-17 military transport plane accidentally landed at the airport after the pilot mistook the small airport for nearby mcdill air force base. >> it's coming down and i'm thinking the sky is going to go

he's not going to make it. huge sounds. hits the runway. burning smoke is coming up. >> reporter: peter o'night airport was tampa's main airport until after world war ii. a hundred private planes are base there had and 180 planes fly in and out of the airport on average every day. >> adam, thank you. when a loved one goes missing but then is found it oftentimes brings closure for the family. in the case of george de laya it leaves his family with more questions after his remains were found. reporter invited to the memorial site where his bones were found. >> reporter: their 11-year search for answers brings them here tonight. a remote wooded area.

>> reporter: this is where the skeletal remains were found. kathleen says her prayers to find her father finally answered. dad. >> reporter: the 61-year-old went missing in january 2005. >> it's relief on some part because after so long you think you're never going to find him. >> reporter: his remains were discovered in january 2015, month. >> i truly believe there was some foul play. i don't believe that our father took his life. >> reporter: his cause of death cannot be determined. so for this family, finding their missing loved one replaced their hope with grief questions. >> it's going to be a mystery for the rest of our lives that we have to live with.

in from maryland to claim the remains. a skeleton laid out in a casket is how they last saw their father. >> it was shocking and a hard thing to see him, just his skeleton. >> reporter: they are taking his cremated remains back home but leaving this memorial that is just a quarter mile from his home. an unbearable thought for the family that never gave up looking for their father and continue looking foreclosure. >> we get to bring him home today. >> a large turnout today for fill ajunior. >> action air 1 was above the services as officers from near respects. friends and family told stories of his life. he was killed while protecting

later saturday night and first thing on sunday morning. again, it can rain almost any time starting tomorrow from sunrise right on through sunday about midday. temperatures right now anywhere from the upper 70s to the mid 80s. and earlier on today, 80 in tampa. upper 70s to about 80 along the beach. tampa right now mostly cloudy skies. 77 degrees. clearwater also 77 degrees. st. pete, 77 degrees. and winds are coming in off the gulf at about 5 to 10 miles per hour. there is the satellite picture. we call it kind of a muddy satellite picture because there's really kind of just a general overcast look, kind of a dirty look to it. not that we're looking at anything severe or at this point really not that heavy. just a lot of clouds and some nuisance showers this evening into tomorrow morning. and if you look at futurecast, if you're going out tonight, you probably don't have to worry about too much rain. first thing in the morning, we

and some rain off shore. so i think pretty much by 7:00, 8:00, tomorrow morning there is the chance of light to moderate showers. widespread, don't think so. but even through lunchtime, there will be breaks. so dry periods, some cloudy periods, even some sun. and then some showers. but the actual line, the actual front, that is something that will be rolling through late saturday night into sunday morning. and storm prediction center even says things could get rough with this. maybe a slight chance of a thunderstorms. tonight. bill logan will be around this weekend to give you updates because models are showing by sunday morning early, this could be a nasty little line. gone. then skies clear out by sunday afternoon. this is when you're really going to notice things. by later in the day, winds pick up. the temperatures drop. and we will see rather cool air roll in first thing on monday. overall rainfall totals for the weekend, probably about a

as is always the case in florida, you might see one or two small areas that could pick up an inch or two of rain. that's the way that florida works out with this kind of pattern. then the cool stuff arrives by late sunday into monday. here is a look at florida's most accurate 7-day. rain chances 50 to 60% chance and early on sunday. look at the high. 65 the high on monday. but back up to 80 by the middle of the week. hello, folks. let's hope that the rays find a pop in the lineup. we found out today that the team will have no closer the first month of the season. brad had surgery yesterday to repair a torn muscle in his groin area. they won't name a closer to replace him and won't go outside of the organization to find him. it will be closer by committee.

meanwhile the rays got the better of boston today. all of the closures had a good outing today. the big bracket buster in the men's ncaa tournament coming from the midwest. blue raiders beats second seeded michigan state 90-81. and hawaii bet cal in the south region. two big upsets so far today. we also had an upset at the carrier dome in syracuse in the women's ncaa tourney. 12th seeded albany upset 5th seeded florida. the great danes went on a 15-0 run in the 4th quart tore take the lead and win it. albany moves on to the second round of the ncaa tournament. first time in program history. 61-59 the final over florida. listen, if you have any extra
