showing the world the progress countries. laura harris has more on this island in history. >> it may seem business as usual. obama is involved in. iconic old cars that so many people are talking about and so many viewers saying get pictures of the old cars. possibly a sign of the times. possibly showing what is going on. you see the buses over there. those are all newer cars. we talked to some people before when we came to cuba in september for the hope's trip and a lot of these newer cars being shipped over the tensions have been eased just a little bit between the two countries. we can tell you that president obama and the first lady are planning to go to the cathedral

today on this historic milestone. tampa is home to many of cuban americans and many keeping close tabs on the relationships between the two countries. kerry kavanaugh has more on the reactions. >> reporter: certainly an important event for so many people in the community. tonight huge celebrations going on at the annual cuban sandwich festival. live music and lots of food and celebration of all things cuban happening this evening. hundreds of people have lined the streets and many decked out in cuban colors and celebrating and cuba and u.s. are venturing in this territory and building back relations frozen for 60 years and optimistic that president obama's progress will continue opening doors for businesses and families to connect for cuba. >> i think it is a good thing

some people don't think so but there is reasons for everything and some can put aside past prejudices and say what is the country about over there. >> reporter: and some of those oppositions are rooted in long continuing human rights violations. if you looking for delicious dinner there will be cuban sandwiches and all kinds of goodies served up for another half hour and we will take you inside of that. reporting live kerry kavanaugh, abc action news. now the most accurate weather team in florida. abc action weather. >> cuban sandwich time. i remember judging that. you getting pieces of cuban sandwich and you got 800 of them. by the end of the day you are full. we are full of sunshine.

good day in for the second half of the weekend. looking at partly cloudy skies, 72 in tampa. sunshine in st. petersburg with 72 degrees and 71 in clearwater but the thing you will notice is the winds. coming out of the northwest and the front pushes down to south florida and we clear out nicely. as we clear out, we cool off as well. got up to 77 in st. petersburg and into the 80s inland and don't get used to that. we are starting off at 50 in tampa and 40s in the northern neighborhoods and talking about wind chills in the 40s tomorrow. a close call for a tampa

nearly hit by yet another wrong- way driver. police arrested this woman, aja cancela driving the wrong way on i-275 and showed signs of impairment. officers say she was speeding in the same lane as the officer was in, officer van reese heading home from his shift and swerved out of the way narrowly missing a crash. other officers later tracked her down at bush boulevard as she was exiting the wrong direction. last week a wrong-way driver claimed the life of a deputy near branden f dot has a series of signs and lights in the hopes of preventing these types of crashes on i-75. two, 13-year-olds led deputies on a car crash

showed up. the girls lost control at the intersection of darlington road at 4:30 this morning. a man received a ticket for not yielding to emergency crews. the girls rushed to the hospital and the passenger is in serious condition. remembering phoebe and a touching tribute from a little girl thrown from a bridge and how the people with mental

help that they need. it has been a year since the tragedy of the little girl that was thrown over the bridge by her father.

forget and one local group of bikers is making sure that we don't. abc action news reporter jake peterson shows us more of the inspirational event today. >> a little over a year ago we gathered here in shock and horror. >> reporter: usually time makes things better but the death ofling five-year-old phoebe leaves sadness. >> we are all people and we have to heal and feel better. >> reporter: they organized a bike ride last year and this year they are doing the same. >> it is something that is near and dear to our heart. >> reporter: sunday afternoon they rode from largo to the placed flowers in the waters she died in. feeling involved. you feel an emotional sadness and because you are throwing a

chefs from near and far came out to battle in tampa for the best cuban sandwich. >> and what a great day for it. the contest. traditional and nontraditional sandwich styles and some came london!

a couple of spits of rain today. it has moved through. it is now down to south florida. we are seeing partly cloudy skies as we look out for anna marie island from the cams. we are seeing clouds in downtown tampa. by this evening things will clear out and we say welcome to spring. all of those folks up in the northeast, they are looking for snow. we are are looking for some cooler weather as that cold front comes through. we will definitely be feeling wintery by the morning. i'll show you those temperatures in just a minute. want to take a look at the almanac. cleared out for air fest and ended up being a nice day. we hit the normal of 77, the 30 year average of high temperatures at tampa international airport. the overnight low or early low was 67, a full 8 degrees above the normal of 59. no rainfall on the gauge at tia.

morning and ended by 11:00 and we started to warm up. still 75 in lake land and 73 for inverness. in dylan they wrap up at 72 degrees and st. petersburg. clearwater 71 and 73 in brandon still at 6:00. temperatures in the 60s to the north and 70s down south, very nice first day of spring in meantime across the country, thing are warming up across the center of the u.s. and cooling down in the northeast where by tomorrow. from new york city, on up into boston, they could get anywhere from maybe two to six inches of snow on the first full day of spring. thanks to this area of low pressure which we will continue to track up the coast. brought the front through here. as it clears we will chill out

things moving out of the area. we will see the cooler weather settle in and break a bit by midweek as we get back in the 80s. 70 by 7:00 p.m. and down in the mid-60s and kicking back the covers at 50s tomorrow. 74 on the gulf of mexico. small craft advisories are up as the wind will howl out of the north, 20 to 25 knots tomorrow and seas up to 10 to 14 feet and rough bay waters. are the tides. low tied 8:06 and sun will rise at 7:03. here is a look at the forecast. showing a chill to start. actually tuesday morning will be cooler than monday morning. but by wednesday, we will be up to 80s and into the mid-80s by

a front through. more details available abc action news app. star players step up in the most crucial points in a game and that's what lightning goaltender ben bishop did in arizona. with a win over the coyotes. the lightning needed it with the penguins and red wings all winning on saturday. both now keep pace with 87 points, just one point ahead of pittsburgh and boston. as for bishop, he was a force. dominant between the pipes and a close day. lightning with a 1-0 lead and they had an empty neither. bishop with the 35th shutout of the year and he owns a lightning report with 15 career shutouts and 3rd straight, 30 win season. i mean i feel good. hopefully we can keep it going. i don't feel like i have been in the groove one way or the other.
