thunderstorms around the sarasota area. there will be more developing overnight tonight. check out the rainfall over the last five days. this is why we had flooding situations in pasco and hernando county. a lot of areas from holiday up to hudson have seen 6 to 8 inches of rain. and plenty more off shore. this evening, there will be more rain developing. there it is. it moves right on through the afternoon and into the evening hours. and then the question will be whether or not it's going to be an issue for the first day of school tomorrow. we will have that forecast coming up in just a couple minutes. >> thank you, denis. flood waters like these in pasco county still threatening several homes there. you can tell by the barriers just how high the water is right now. people are doing what they can to protect their property. but more bad weather is just making things really tough. eric waxler is live in port richie with the race to stay ahead of all of the rain. eric. >> reporter: hey, wendy. yeah. there was a lot of rain earlier today. the flood waters were

the problem here in port richie on this street all started because this retention pond overflowed. you see the trucks from the county have been working to try to pump as much water as possible. that tanker down there holds 6,000 gallons. this truck right here, and there have been three of them coming back and forth today. this holds 3,000 gallons. look how it is sucking up this water here. it has definitely made a difference. in fact, we can walk back right here and see where the was and now how it razz reseated back. people are definitely worried that more storms will cause more damage and more flooding here. we are walking through what was john's front lawn. >> it's just going to keep coming. >> reporter: now his yard is covered in close to 2 feet of water, creeping closer and closer to his front door. >> we're right now looking at our options and where we can go so i can at least get any

mals. >> reporter: after a steady rain the flooding on the street is worse than it was why ed. >> it was to the barricades. now it's coming up our road. >> reporter: people living on this street say pasco county officials have known about the problem with this retention pond for years. this 2014 e-mail to residents from public works director mike garrett says the county increased the pond size but it didn't help. the e-mail also mentions that a permanent pump station may be the only viable was never built. joshua beardmore calls it poor planning. >> all of the water comes right here to the retention pond and has nowhere to go. >> reporter: a temporary pump is transferring water to this tanker truck 6,000 gallons at a time. it doesn't seem to be making a dent. there are other streets in pasco affected like fox bloom drive. water isn't the only problem. a gator showed up at one home

neighborhood. and back on iron bark, cassy found fire apartments in her flooded out car. the only ones enjoying the water is the ducks. >> did they tell you that you shouldn't play in the water. >> yeah. they said it's nasty water. >> reporter: yeah. nasty water indeed. but you see right now some of that nasty water has been sucked up by these trucks i got a response from the county as far as the persistent flooding here on iron brook drive. they said basically they are working to get a solution here and it is one of their top ten priorities in the county. they are actually look at building a culvert and maybe even purchasing as many as 7 of these homes to make this retention pond even bigger. eric waxler, abc action news. >> thank you, eric. staying along the coast to the south now the rain is backing up in sarasota this

the hunt for house thieves. >> it's unfortunate. >> reporter: sherry just found out her neighborhood is the latest target. a few doors down, crooks caught on camera here monday rummaging through the house, stealing jewelry and cash. >> obviously it's right down the street from where i live. this is my home with my kids. you never want to scare your kids. >> they seem to have a plan. they're identifying houses in a particular area. >> reporter: south tampa now break-in central. we have mapped out the trail crime. police believe the same thieves have hit 22 homes south of kennedy since march. >> they're actually very good at what they do because they're not leaving finger prints. >> reporter: no prints or arrests despite clear images from home surveillance cameras, leaving detectives to believe these are out of town robbers. >> they took a picture of a vehicle. we think it was the vehicle that the suspects left in. >> reporter: but the robbers' run could be about to hit a

we begin in tennessee where we got the calls for help after three girls plummeted from a ferris wheel at a county fair. >> three kids fell from the ferris wheel. >> i feel badly for the little kids. they screamed a little bit and then just hit the ground and just were laying there. >> this afternoon we learned a 6-year-old girl suffered a traumatic brain injury. her older sister and another teenager fell as far as 45 feet when the car flipped over. the ferris wheel was last inspected. right now all of the rides at the fair are closed and will get checked out. we're hearing the enormous water slide where a kansas boy died this weekend hadn't been inspected by the state since it opened two years ago according to the kansas city star. caleb schwab lost his life on the world's largest water slide. he died of a neck injury but

detail. especially troubling because water park slides are exempt from oversight. >> what local water parks had to say about their safety guidelines. >> reporter: adventure island is the premiere water park in the tampa bay area. water slides like this one named the gulf stream are the big draws. we asked are. they declined releasing a statement saying we meet or exceed all safety guidelines set forth by state agencies and the ride and slide manufacturers. we asked lego land about their water slide safety. they said safety is their highest priority, adding they employ lifeguards trained in the safe operation of attractions. what if you don't want to just take their word for it.

will be rain across pasco, hernando counties. right now things are relatively dry. across the area, only in the upper 70s to about 80 degrees. we hit low 80s today in tampa. it's 79 with rain right now. so there it is. last night overnight i'm sure a lot of you if you live along the coast you heard the rain. and this morning first thing it was obviously around. and it will be again tomorrow. it's always a good idea check facebook or abcactionnews.com. and of course ivan will be on first thing tomorrow morning to let you look at live titan doppler radar. because even though right now things are pretty active off shore, they seem like they're going to continue into the evening hours. but it really depends on which model you're looking at. i'll show you why in a second. this is the high resolution model. it is usually pretty active in a short-term period. we're confident that the rain will continue into the evening

scattered showers. notice things begin to wind down first thing in the morning. you're not looking at things ramp up. the rpm model is showing far less rain tomorrow morning than the high resolution was showing. i think what we're going to do is split the difference. when you look at this kind of pattern, you can't say no rain. we've had three days of it. even the low center is pulling away. that southwest flow is strong enough that we will see rain sometime in the morning. i think it will be in the day. nevertheless, afternoon and evening storms are still going to be an issue. notice how they start to blow up anterior by wednesday. that is a sign of things to come by wednesday night. because with a southeast wind returning, by thursday, more of a classic pattern. as the low pulls away, things will get back to normal, meaning more sunshine in the afternoon. you could even see it thursday morning. it will be dry. so tomorrow, kind of the transitional day. thursday, much nicer.

afternoon and evening thunderstorms. overall rainfall totals still will be heaviest over the next couple of days over across our anterior counties. if you look at long range euro, this is good news, this was showing five, six inches of rain earlier in the week. now things are beginning to wiped down as the low pulls away and takes a lot of the rain along with it. that will allow forecast highs tomorrow warmer than today. but not as warm as thursday. back into the mid to upper 80s across most of the low 90s by thursday and into friday. your hour by hour forecast, partly cloudy this evening. especially showers near the coast. again, looking on the golf course tomorrow, if you haven't been able to play lately, things will be improving late morning and early afternoon. the 7-day forecast shows improvements, especially the second half of the week. by thursday, it's back to normal. highs back in the low 90s. that will continue into the
