bayfront hospital. brice macleod, the man pinellas park police say was drunk behind the wheel when he smashed into the couple in court monday given bond of $50,000. that may change with an expected upgrade in charges. his attorney says he feels for the victims as well. >> very unfortunate that this had to happen. i know mr. macleod personally, i know he's very remorse afl and very sorry to hear about what happened. >> reporter: macleod though has a history of drinking behind the wheel with past cases in manatee and hillsborough counties. loved ones who spent days hoping and praying for recovery now forced to plan for a funeral. i did speak with the principal of sexton elementary school. she says grief counselors are on hand to help staff members or students who may need it. they actually held a moment of silence for that teacher this morning, again that press conference here kicks off 9:30. we'll bring you those live pictures in about half-hour. reporting live from pinellas

action news. updating you you now on a disturbing story on the florida east coast. deputies are investigating a gruesome shocking attack on a husband and wife in martin county. >> authorities arriving to a home overnight to find a man biting another man's face. deputies tried to use a stun gun and police dog to pry him away but neither worked. it took multiple deputies to pull the attacker off, within the last 30 minutes deputies revealed the husband and wife likely died from stab wounds. a neighbor was also trying to intervene. investigators are now looking into why the attack happened and if he was possibly on any drugs at the time. if you are headed out this morning and you have not been out yet today, it's nice and dry. look at live radar and you can see we don't have rain across the area so you are planning on getting yard work done today you've got a lot of good hours over the first half of the day, you can see just a little bit of rain trying to cross the i- 95 corridor.

again today so what that means is dry start to the day. with later in the afternoon showers and storms. by noon we can even see something bubbling up around eastern polk or highlands county but most of the rain won't make its way into tampa bay until around 2:00, 3:00. that will continue until just about sunset before tapering off. we're going to top out today around 3:00, 4:00 at 92 degrees. so a hot and steamy day ahead for sure. we've had traffic issues here over the last hour or so. how >> it's pretty busy still especially across the bridges -- or actually just one bridge, the courtney campbell causeway, we have a crash blocking a lane and we are seeing some delays heading into tampa starting all the way back at the bayside bridge. at this point the howard frankland has kind of eased up from the morning commute. so right now the howard frankland is a much better option at 9 minutes. 42 minutes to get across the courtney campbell causeway. just seven minutes across the gandy bridge. you can also take tampa road

closer there. old's march. i-75 looking a lot better northbound, this crash at fowler is cleared. that was really backing things up all the way to before i-4 so things getting better there. still seeing delays southbound i-75 through manatee county, we have a crash reported here just before you get to lakewood ranch. 9:05. new information after a georgia murder suspect is arrested in north florida for killing a police officer. we've learned that slain officer wasn't wearing body armor when shot. 24-year-old royhim deeds is accused of murdering that georgia police officer tim smith saturday. authorities say deeds was found hiding in the trunk of a car near jacksonville. a relative of deeds says her nephew has previously had legal problems but they say not to the extent of taking somebody's life. >> the officer was doing his job, was killed as a result of that.

happens. it's certainly a good day when we can find that individual that did it and arrest him. >> yesterday would have been officer smith's 31st birthday. he leaves behind a fiancee, two sons, a daughter and stepson. the man accused of killing a st. augustine priest is due back in court a month from today. sterve murray appeared in a georgia courtroom yesterday where prosecutors confirmed he will face the death penalty. investigators say he kidnapped father renee robert last and forced him into the trunk of his own car. the car was found in south carolina and murray was arrested nearby. deputies say he led them back to the father's remains near augusta, georgia. we're hearing more about the pulse nightclub massacre a little more than two months ago. >> survivors talking about how they are moving forward. in an mtv special "true life, we are orlando."

currently in florida there are 28 new travel related cases, one of them is in hillsborough county. another in polk county involving a pregnant woman. and marion county making the list for the first time with one case. there were also 11 more cases in miami-dade county, eight more were in broward. and two in volusia county. there are two nontravel related cases from miami-dade, one person exposed in the miami neighborhood we've been warning you about. it's less than the other half outside that area. that puts the total number of florida cases at 470. 9:08. happening tomorrow -- cities deciding whether to keep the controversial red light cameras or take them down. the bradenton city council putting the issue on its agenda for wednesday morning. the city's contract with xerox which bought a red light camera company in 2010 spires this week. the bradenton police department says the number of accidents at

welcome back. 9:14. we continue to follow the story from milwaukee, wisconsin, following two nights of violent protests the situation calmer last night. the city it's plemed a 10:00 -- implemented a 10:00 curfew for anyone under scott walker also ordered 100 narlgd members to stand by in case more violence broke out. the milwaukee police chief says there were six arrests last night. some heated confrontations but no property damage. the violence began saturday after a black police officer shot and killed an armed black man who was fleeing from a traffic stop and threatened an officer. police in san diego are looking for the man who teleeggs and hit a 72-year-old -- threw eggs and hit a 73-year- old woman in a wheelchair.

than selling pasta. the thing has gone inexplicably viral. >> he says he's standing by his sign and t-shirts and says the business has been booming ever since he put up the sign to promote a tuna dish. we have new information on sudden infant death syndrome. doctors now say parents are not doing enough to keep infants safe in a crib. researchers recorded video of parents in every-day real life. nine out of 10 babies placed in cribs with unsafe items like bumper pads, stuffed animals. the items could increase risk of suffocation and up to a third of the babies were placed on their tummies or sides instead of their backs. these findings are published in the journal pediatrics. the cdc estimates 3,500 babies die suddenly without explanation every year. one of the most common over the counter drugs could change your unborn child's personality. acetaminophen is the active ingredient in tylenol and hundreds of other pain relief

p.m. and then otherwise hot and steamy for all of us who don't see the showers and storms to cool us down. that front i was talking about that is headed into the baton rouge area, that is it, the heavier rain that is now in eastern parts of texas. that is all headed in the direction of those flooded areas in louisiana. now as we look at the beach forecast for today, if you're planning on heading out to clearwater beach or happen to live there lucky you, 90 degrees is the high to water temperatures of 87. lots of sunshine though will be a chance of late-day storms but you'll be dry until about 3:00. then you'll begin to see that chance of storms picking up as the storms move off-shore. 83 degrees in tampa. 80 st. pete. 83 new port richey. 83 sarasota. heating up quickly. now we start with temperatures, they should be around 76 degrees in the morning ending the day around 90. we're going to be a little

coming up. we go live to pinellas park. the police department there, officials updating us on the investigation of that pinellas county teacher. >> prayers to the family of miss sine and the friends and children that were affected by this as well. as a result of the death mr. macleod has been charged with dui manslaughter at this point. the charge wa first thing this morning. so he's now facing a dui manslaughter charge in addition to the serious bodily injury charge that was already placed on him at the previous date. so at this point i'll entertain any questions you might have and try to answer them as best i can. >> ( indiscernible ) -- >> i believe so. they will want to look at bond for the new hearing. i don't know if that will adjust or not. that will be up to the judge

you can see it's pretty clear a lot of his comrades from the fire service, pete huffman spent 35 years there. it says a lot about his family as they push for legislation that would guarantee benefits for firefighters that fall ill. at this point it probably wouldn't give them the help they so desperately need. doctors are convinced a long career of fighting fires, and exposure to toxic chemicals contributed to pete huffman's diagnosis. he was forced into retirement on chemo that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. he wants firefighters to make sure they are benefited if they get cancer. >> i would be very proud. our son is a firefighter. and yes, it's too late for us, but protect him, protect the firefighters that are working now, protect the ones that are coming in.

disturbing new developments in the murders of a pennsylvania family. authorities say a father took his thre before he killed them. yesterday the district attorney said megan short and her husband got into at least two fights, one in june at a philadelphia hotel, then again at their home in july. the day after the july fight mark short bought a handgun and some ammunition. officers told megan how she could legally protect herself. >> the police department did at that time advise megan short

it. this was a easy way to work with a bunch of people, it's been an amation experience. >> have they laid out the path for you? the training? the certification? >> i feel i have all the tools that i need to get started. and i walked in a lot more confident having those tools. >> it's wonderful. scott, this is what is it really all about. what is your message to folks watching today's and thinking maybe a career in teaching is for me? >> we need great people. we have 65 openings as of this morning. as you know we started school last week. throughout the year. we need people who are really caring, have patience and want to make a difference in young peoples' lives. that have special needs and need that extra attention. >> specifically what are the requirements? you do have a few requirements? >> yes. you have to have a batch lorings degree or higher from an accredited college. it's minimum. any subject is fine. you must come to the information session, we'll talk about the program that includes training, experience in schools to make sure it's the right
