>> now, at 11:00, crafty move. a hand cuffed prisoner manages to escape out of a squad car. how he got away and the search to find him. and compelled to action. a restaurant staff's personal mission to help victims in flood-ravaged and what even surprised them. good evening and thank you so much for joining us. i'm serena fazan. the search is underway for this man, joel carchola. he slipped out of a cruiser while handcuffed. it started when joel carchola and a friend crashed their car into a free near fifth street court near bradenton and then took off. deputies spotted the men a block away and learned joel carchola was wanted for violating his probation on a drug charge.

put him in the squad car but as they questioned his friend, investigators believe he somehow rolled down the window and climbed out. the escape has many people nervous. >> there's a lot of kids around here. so having my son, i would be a little bit worried that someone's on the loose that obviously doesn't care about other people. >> deputies say if anyone sees joel carchola call the manatee county sheriff's office. there is another search in manatee county about. deputies looking for a suspect behind an armed robbery. he hit a homeless man, likely with a pipe, and took off with his wallet. it happened last night in the 8200 block of lockwood ridge road. the victim did need treatment for minor injuries. in hillsboro county deputies say a victim knocks on a door telling the resident he had been shot. it happened around 3:15 this morning on english hills court.

is being treated for nonlife- threatening injuries. deputies do not believe the shooting was random. polk county deputies are looking for a man who tried to carjack a woman in a bone fish parking lot this morning. the suspect approached the driver's side window with what appeared to be a chain wrapped around his hand and ordered her to get out. she did, and he took off. deputies found her toyota avalon crashed and burned at the county line road but no sign of him. they are hoping someone come forward with information and crime stoppers is offering a reward. a lake worth hospital defind bond after palm beach deputies say he killed his wife and took off. they arrested walter various after he crashed his car on i- 59 and disturbing details coming out. detectives say the two daughters, only 12 and 16, witnessed some of the attack on their mom. authorities have not released specific details, only saying she suffered blunt force trauma

right now, a 7-year-old man is charged with dui accused of crashing into two cars. one of them a deputy's cruiser. the man, alfredo jiminez is now in the jail. the crashed happened 9:15 last night on north 15th street. he hit a car that was then pushed into the deputy's vehicle. the deputy was not hurt. the two people in the other car did suffer minor injuries. over i search for a man who carjacked and abducted a female pizza delivery driver. the suspect lured her to an abandoned home. he then forced the woman into her own truck, but thanks to some quick thinking she got away by pulling the escape lever and jumping out of the moving car. and today, a final farewell to a beloved music teacher who

elementary school. the pinellas performing arts center. a drunk driver ran a reed light and crashed into her car. the 34-year-old died a couple of days later. her boyfriend, the passenger in the car, remains in the hospital. shawn hankins also suffered critical injuries. in lieu of flowers the family asked for donations to mothers against drunk drivers. meteorologist bill logan joins us now. it looked like we got a break this weekend. herself great time to be outside. >> a couple of quick showers moved through today. that was it. basically the same thing is on tap for tomorrow as we take a look right now. tightened up our radar live. nothing show ing up except a little bit of ground clutter around our riverview radar site. over on the other coast things looking good as well. back 12 hours, a couple of the storms moving through northern areas of hillsborough county and most of the activity staying to the south and east.

capitol, on tours. the devastation hitting home for many in the bay area. we've seen volunteers and loads of donations heading to baton rouge and a local restaurant is jumping on board to help. why they're compelled to step in. cara? >> reporter: they grew up near baton rouge, louisiana. his dad still lives there along with many friends. he decided to do something to help and to get the community involved in the process. the images from louisiana's catastrophic flooding are heartbreaking. >> i cried today just thinking about it. >> reporter: red cochran grew up outside baton rouge. his dad's home took on knee- deep water. thankfully he had flood insurance, but many other friends and relatives and people around the state aren't so lucky. more than 100,000 people asked for federal help since the historic flooding started. >> my brother called me the other day and he was like, it's

>> reporter: we asked his boss if they could take up donations of basic items to help. everyone at the restaurant jumped on board right away. >> we're just trying to show some tampa bay love on to the louisiana people. >> reporter: in a few days they've been amazed at the generous donations of people, everything from clothing to shoes to diapers. >> it touches my soul to see the community coming together. >> reporter: amanda nelson knows firsthand the value of helping those in need because she used to be of a toothbrush, toothpaste, just clothes to wear, water to drink, so the to me it's real important. it just is important to give to them, because somebody gave to me. >> reporter: the restaurant is taking donations all week and this louisiana native will back up a truck and personally deliver it all to friends in need next week. >> it feels like a super hero. that's the best part. i want to put a smile on people's faces.

luke roman the disgraced star maker behind boy bands died in a texas prison. the 62-year-old was serving a 25-year sentence for running a $300 million ponzi scheme. we are still waiting to hear what caused his death. we have new information tonight in connection with late singer prince. we are hearing that pills taken from his estate were improperly labeled. a source revealing officials found counterfeit drugs containing 50 times more powerful than heroin and many were falsely labeled as hydrocodone. toxic results showed prince died of an accidental overdose. the 57-year-old was found dead in april in an elevator inside his minnesota home. a pregnant woman has had it with florida. all because of growing concerns over the zika virus. the woman you see here plans to drive to virginia where she will stay with her family until her baby is born.

december. back in december, remember? we've got to wake that guy up. >> he's getting his rest. you need your rest, especially as you have a big week ahead which we do around here. let's take a look outside right now as we wrap up a gorgeous weather weekend. only a few showers moved through yesterday. a couple through today. if you got caught under one of them you were like wow, this is a downpour. it only lasted maybe 15 or 20 minutes. we are clear right now across the region. showing you that. so too does this shot as we take a look at the weather headlines as we wrap up a wonderful wetweekend. monday will stay mostly dry, just like today. but the tropics definitely bear watching. not around through the gulf of mexico. certainly not in through the caribbean sea but further off into the atlantic. we're keeping an eye on big time some storms that are

here. this is fiona, still looking like it's going to move to the north and west as it falls apart. a couple more areas rolling off the african coast. one shows about a 40% chance of development, pulling into the islands, the other one about a 90% chance of development. this is going to stay mostly into the atlantic into the open waters. again, nothing to worry about right now but this is the season when we start seeing more of these storms, and of course if anything changes these practice jek torres do -- trajectories wobble or head toward us we'll let you know about it. one of the things we are keeping track of with the storm shield app are very spotty showers that bloomed up and worked their way into the middle part of the state. they're gone right now, left with some sticky steamy conditions. 83 seems to be a popular number from haynes city to bartow,

apollo beach. brooks another cool spot at 77 degrees. across the state, we're mostly in the low 80s across the southeast, mostly in the middle 70s. as a cold front pulls up right through here, it has dropped the temperatures through the carolinas, but it just won't make it into florida. we're still in that part of the year where we really don't get those fronts pulling through. for tonight, mostly clear, mild and muggy. a slim chance of showers blooming up tomorrow by about will push inland maybe 10 to 20%. now, on tuesday, we start to see a little bit after shift. we've been watching those winds push everything off to the east, we're going to see a little bit after northeasterly vector of the end. while we see the showers building up about 1:00, we'll watch also for the back building of these storms by later on in the afternoon. still a dry atmosphere so we're not expecting much in the way

to football. the bucs play their first preseason home game friday night against the browns. they're going to be practicing against cleveland tuesday and wednesday this week. the wednesday practice is open for fans and free. jameis winston started sloppy last night. he was 3 of 10 during the three series he played. the interception wasn't really his fault. he did deliver the touchdown on the jump ball to right there. the coach says winston has a long way to go but is light years better than this time last season. >> the competitive side of him, he's sometimes tries to do too much. example would be its third and 15 last night. and he gets in a scramble situation. no matter how you slice it, he's going to run for 5 yards, but herefuses to slide and that's the whole defense hit him. you don't t have to win the gam every single play.

recovering from the bullet wounds. the driver tried to run over atrooper and that's when a trooper opened fire shattering the window of the suv. three men and the teenager took off. all taken into custody. the teen's injuries are not life-threatening. back here at home the humane society of pinellas county is waiving fees for black cats today and tomorrow. the unlucky cats will hopefully find forever hopes. take a lo caught on -- this rescue caught on camera. a woman noticed a kitten stuck in a drain for a couple of days. she posted it on facebook to get help. the kitten now named piper was stuck inside that drain so a local plumber responded, not only pulling the kitty out, but here's the best part, guys. he took it home. >> good for him. a saved cat, still nine lives left on that one. we've got a warm start tomorrow as you head the kids
