point out. this one just in from fhp, here in pinellas northbound 275 at gandy, roars we might have some lanes blocked although not really seeing anything. i looked and you can see we're still in the green heading northbound on 275. a little slow here on 4th street and park, i also noticed a little bit of slowdowns as well. could be due to some lingering construction from overnight. opening up our cameras, this i-275 around 54th avenue. got blurry on this camera. was looking clear a second ago but looks like they are making some focus changes there. traffic looking great on 275. all the interstates in the green, i-4, i-75 and 275 in pinellas. 5:01. a dangerous carjacking suspect is on the loose in lakeland. >> the polk county sliver's office sending out a major warning now. sheriffs office. abc action news reporter rodney dunigan is live from the scene

is the victim ok? >> reporter: thankfully she is. this could have been worse. investigators say this happened shortly after closing time on sunday. the woman was simply sitting in her car when the guy walked up to the driver's side with a chain wrapped around his hand and forced her to get out of the vehicle. she got out, wasn't hurt. the guy simply took off, drove a mile down the way where he later crashed that vehicle so he didn't even get away with the car. it was investigators tell us they are searching for him at this hour. this is a pretty busy area with a lot of restaurants and businesses. i've been speaking with folks this morning and let me tell you, they are certainly on edge. >> maybe should make you more aware. i've been standing and turning around more than i would normally this morning. >> reporter: of course that is what we've been hearing a lot from customers, standing around watching their surroundings and

as for a description of the suspect, pretty vague at this time, just a white male, thin build, 5'8", at the time of the crime he was wearing a t-shirt, shorts and ball cap. i'll show you something that could help. we're across the street at the 7-eleven, the surveillance cameras, detectives have already come here and got the cameras, points directly across the street to the bone fish grill. investigators are hoping the video will help them track down the criminal. of course anyone with information should contact the polk county sheriff's office. live from lakeland, rodney dunigan, abc action news. deputies in manatee county are searching for the man you see here over my shoulder. that is joel canchola, determination say he slipped out of a cruiser -- deputies say he slipped out of a cruiser while handcuffed. deputies spotted men running a block from the scene. he was arrested for violating probation on a drug charge but

they believe joe somehow rolled down the squad car window and climbed out. the escape has a lot of people nervous >> there's a lot of kids around here so having my son i would be a little worried that someone is on the loose that obviously doesn't care about other people. >> if you see him call the mabtee county sheriff's office. no search underway in manatee county. deputies say an armed robber there hit a what appears to be a pipe and took off with his wallet. happened sunday night on lock ridge road, the victim needed treatment for minor injuries. in hillsborough county, a man shows up on someone's door stepafter he was shot. sunday morning in the english hills court in the area of usf. the victim's name has not been released but they say he's expected to survive. also nothing about the suspect but we're told the shooting

a lakeworth man stays in jail without bond after palm beach deputies say he killed his wife and took off. walter bar barrios was arrested after he took off on 95. the daughters saw some of the attack on their mother. authorities haven't released specific details, only that she suffered blunt force trauma to the head. overnight in jacksonville we just learned investigators caught the man they say carjacked and abducted a pizza delivery dve rob a dollar general. the baker county sheriff's office says cornelius ruiz iii turned himself in, that he forced a woman into the trunk of her own car and drove off. the woman was able to escape by pulling the escape lever and jumping out of the moving car. it was 50 miles per hour at the time. she's a little banged up, with cuts and a head injury but made it back home to her family safely. 5:05. back in the bay area -- 70- year-old man is charged with

deputy's cruiser. alfredo rodriguez jimenez went to the hospital; hillsborough county jail after the crash last night on north 15th street. he's out of jail this morning. deputies say rodriguez jimenez hit a car and it pushed into a deputy's vehicle. that deputy wasn't hurt. two people in the other car did have minor injuries throw. pinellas park held a service to remember caroline sine. she taught at sexton elementary school. in lieu of flowers her family has asked for donations to mothers against drunk driving. her boyfriend sean hankins in the passenger seat was critically hurt, still in the hospital this morning. the last kids to hold on to summer in the bay area are back

>> almost 44,000 students in sarasota county are getting ready to go back to school. several new principals will also start for the first time. >> and the first time students and staff at several schools step into remodeled classrooms thanks to renovations over the past fewer months. sarasota police want you to remember there's a zero tolerance policy nor speeding in consume zones and passing school buses that have a stop sign extended. >> fines can range from $50 to lookout for crossing guards and slow down when you're driving through the school zones. it will be dry for pickup. 93 to 95 for the temperature though, keep that in mind. feels-like in the 100s. rain chances coming back tomorrow. we'll check the extended forecast coming up. the flooding in louisiana

abc action news. first part of the week here starting off pretty nicely. i-275 here near hillsborough avenue moving well. temperatures a little muggy, 80 degrees but no rain. details on traffic and weather together coming up in a moment. 5:12. to the wildfire crisis in northern california. firefighters say they are gaining control of an arson fire that destroyed nearly 200 homes. as of yesterday afternoon the lower lake wildfire is 95% contained. else orders for families have been lifted. the 82,000 people ordered to leave their homes are now starting to return and assess the damage. a preliminary damage estimate in san bernardino found 105 homes and 216 outbuildings destroyed. historic flooding in louisiana damages 60,000 homes and counting this morning. the red cross is calling the flooding the nation's worst disaster since superstorm sandy in 2012. president obama is heading to baton rouge tomorrow to survey

are opening up two disaster recovery centers, also setting up a temporary bus system to help people get around baton rouge. the vehicles were damaged so they have no other way to get around. more than 3,000 people are still in shelters rights now. a local restaurant is pitching in to help flood victims in louisiana. some employees at the salty rim grill in st. pete beach are personally impacted by the disaster, some have family with severe flood damage and friends whether lost homes and businesses. the grill started to ask for to help. they've collected everything from clothing, shoes, diapers, dishes to food and water. authorities say they are overwhelmed by the community's generosity. >> it's like a mountain. i can't even believe it. we were supposed to rent a cargo van. looks like we have to upgrade to a bigger one. it touches my soul to see the community coming together. >> you can drop off donations at the salty rim grill on blind

week. they plan to pack up a truck and head to louisiana in about a week. people in western michigan will continue to clean up after a severe line of thunderstorms spawned at least five tornadoes over the weekend. those tornadoes took down trees, power lines and damaged homes. this all happened on saturday, the worst of it was just south of grand rapids. it's hard to believe but thankfully no injuries were reported. >> are they in the clear now? >> th in fact this was a potent cold front that rolled through, getting into our fall weather across portions of the midwest and northeast. all of this now has pushed east. in fact the front is right now located across portions of eastern massachusetts, actually had a tornado warning there as well but look at the clouds off the lakes. much cooler temperatures for them. it's that contrast, with the temperature and the moisture contrast that triggers the storms. for us it's pretty quiet.

the radar is on, just not doing much and has in the last 12 hours, a couple thunderstorms across polk county and that is about it. it's muggy. that's not gone away but for us, you go a few thousand feet up and it's dry enough where as the thunderstorms try to get going with the sea breezes they will have a difficult time continuing to develop. so just about 20% is what we'll call for today. then a return flow coming in off the northeast wind takes over. that will bring us more moisture. certainly across the rest of the area. we'll begin to see rain chances back to where they should be for this time of year but this is futurecast, 1:00, 3:00, 4:00, again just isolated showers and storms. we'll have more activity certainly as we head through tomorrow, 40% to 50% through the rest of the week. a lot going on here but no worries about fiona. in fact this wave off africa will likely turn, it's going to head west and likely turn north.

5:23. storage units can be a simple solution for more space or temporary space for belongings. >> one common thing can ruin all your stuff. mice. one family is what they can. nine months later they realized mice had gotten into about everything from cookie cars to baby bouncer seat to toaster, even covered items. the storage company says it did have regular pest control and working with the family. so what are your rights if your things are ruined while they are in storage? the better business bureau says most storage contracts will state that the facility is not responsible for damage. so make sure you're covered by your own insurance or insurance

is everyone back in school? sarasota getting back today. a nice long stretch. it's warm and humid. you would think we would get thunderstorms this afternoon but dry air on top of us will limit that so i don't think we'll get much. just like yesterday, 20% coverage, if anything pops across the interior counties. but by tomorrow we'll get the northeast know returning off the atlantic ocean, that increasing our rain chances and allow for a little more cloud cover so the temperatures won't be as hot. i think today 95 for the afternoon high. 105 the heat index. that's what happens this time of year. with the humidity. we'll hope for thunderstorms tomorrow. i think we'll get back to 40%. so far so good on the roads. we're starting over in pinellas county, 275, this is just south of roosevelt, look how wide open the lanes are.
