patterns setting up for tomorrow. this morning pinellas county investigators are trying to figure out how this car ended up in a retention pond. neighbors say they heard a loud crash yesterday afternoon. saw that car sinking into the pond, we spoke with one woman who says she saw a young man standing near the car with the trunk open just minutes before it went into the water. tarpon springs fire rescue responded, firefighters jumped into the water, were able to get in through the sun roof, feel around inside. they said they didn't find anyone in jumped in. >> i was thinking if i seen somebody i would go in and see if i could help them but if i didn't see anybody i want going in there because the gators in there are 5, 6-foot long. >> detectives say that car doesn't belong to anyone who lives in the community. they say they have reached out to the owner and that car -- the owner of the car and say it was stolen. watch for fake money. especially if you sell things on-line. one man says he was scammed out

in san francisco hillary clinton talked with children and families outside. she raised $3 million in july and is in the middle of a joint fundraising push. superpack supporting her raised $10 million. donald trump meantime raised $36 million in july. his joint funds with the republican party $44 million. superpac raised about 4 million. clinton has already spent $319 million on campaign ads and trump spent $89.5 million. breaking overnight, at least 21 people are dead and the search is on now to find survivors of an earthquake in italy. that 6.2 magnitude quake struck in the central part of the country. kenneth mouton has latest. >> reporter: italian natural disaster. rescue crews on the scene helping the injured and searching for survivors in the

earthquake in central italy. overnight dark images started to come in of the damage. the quake hit while people were asleep. 3:30 a.m. local time. the epicenter, the town is just 100 miles north of rome that also felt the tremor for at least 20 seconds. tourists eve reed and their family woke up to the beds shaking. panicked, wondering what was earthquake, don't panic. >> reporter: initial reports, hardest hit areas where the death toll is rising. most of the historic city destroyed and residents buried under collapsed homes and building. equipment is moving in for rescue and recovery teams. megan williams who felt it in

donald trump is back in tampa today. the rally in the works and the protests being planned. >> also breaking in europe. a powerful earthquake rocks central italy. we know at least 21 people are dead and the death toll is expected to climb. abc action news anchor lindsay logue is in the studio now, monitoring the rescue crews as they comb through the debris searching for survivors. >> good morning. this morning the mayor of one of the small towns in central italy out. there are reports this hour families are still trapped under all of the rubble, one family of four believed to be under their house, rescuers say there's no sign of life. the 6.2 magnitude quake hit in the middle of the night in it low making the search for survivors incredibly difficult with crews having to wait until sunrise. you can see in the video just in buildings there collapsed, historic sites in ruins.
