problems and deadly overdoses at this year's sunset music festival. rodney dunningan is live outside raymond james stadium. city leaders say they've had enough. >> reporter: in fact, they say the problems have to be addressed. two people died, more than 60 others taken to a local hospital. most of the cases involve drugs. now city council members say they are trying to come up with a few explanations and a few reasons and a few, i gues you can, ways to stop this from happening at other local eventspch ? [music] ? this year's sunset music-fest attracting thousands to raymond james stadium, also pulling in plenty of problems as well. a large number of the incidents were drug related. two attendees dying of apparent overdoses. >> that's a personal choice. >> reporter: a number of city leaders saying it's gotten out

received care after the june 12th attack that left 49 people dead. >> instead, they are writing off nearly $5.5 million in hospital care. the hospital says they are paying forward the kindness they received from people all over the country who reached out and supported them after the attack. they say it is a huge relief for the families. a few hundred people are anxious for a callback after a busy job fair. we told you about this st now we know 250 people turned out. the problem is, there are only 19 open positions. it was reported on issue yous the county faced over the last few years with 911 calls going unanswered. they are short 19 people. current operators are working around the clock. some for as many as 17 days straight. officials say the last job fair attracted 200 applicants, but only two were hired. we're expecting to get a

right now, police in san francisco are looking for a man caught on camera beating a woman, watch this for no apparent reason. take a look at the surveillance footage. >> the woman was walking by herself and she turns around and then he beats her repeatedly and calmly walks away. the woman in her 50s did not lose consciousness, but did he break her nose. she managed to call for help but the suspect was long gone. it is a relatively safe area, and people walk around alone all of the time. >> people walk by and know each other's dogs and names. >> police say the suspect did not take anything from the woman he attacked. they are working now to figure out a motive. they think he may have been on drugs. meantime, they are telling people in the area to be careful until an arrest is made. this morning, a california family is outraged that they

could appear. we're just a few weeks away from the expected release of apple's new iphone. they no longer have the excitement level they did a few years ago, but many people are ready to upgrade. the iphone 6 had no major changes but "forbes" magazine says this september will bring a new iphone 7 with significant changes beginning with three diff you'll notice the larger camera that shows in the forbes photo. among the biggest rumored changes? well, no more head phone audio jack. a better camera, more water resistance, and possibly a smaller 4 1/2 inch model and a curved screen on the largest model. forbes tells us apple appears to have canceled plans for the iphone pro, the expensive

escalade. we'll know for sure on friday the 16th. i'm john matarese, abc action news. an update on the forecast. actually, the tropics are very close. >> it's interesting that the hurricane hunters are flying to mcdill. i know one of them so i messaged him. this is a mess. let's talk about and tell you why this is not continuing t matter in the long run. it likely will get some impacts from this organized wake which, by the way, they are finding 49 mile-per-hour winds. if i didn't know what was happening and you showed me this satellite, i would tell you thunderstorms have gone on in the island of hispaniola. this does not look like a tropic ale system. it's very disorganized.

you need them to be calm for the thunderstorms to continue to wrap around for the system to get organized. these are very unfavorable winds. so long as that's pushing away from the center, the system can't organize. but pay attention to what happens on the other side. if the system survives and heads to the bahamas, conditions are more favorable for development. we'll watch these closely as it continues to head off to north and west. computer model forecasts haven't changed as far as that track. this is about all we know right now. what happens over the bahamas will be key as far as the intensity. this is the window this has to become something stronger like a hurricane. category 1 or something like that heading into the southern end of the state. we know for us we'll get a plume of tropical rainfall. we though heavy rains will be

that way. the potential risk for downpours coming up sunday and monday. the intensity that is still to be determined is checking back with us once we get a center point there, the models will be able to do a much better job to let us know where this is going. the forecast will likely change. so that's why you have to keep in tune to this one. we don't have a storm yet to be able to completely forecast here accurately. very low confidence forecast at this point here. you are looking good there's dry air up above to the north. quiet conditions across the i- 10. farther down to the south, we have enough moisture. i think we'll have 40% chance of rainfall this afternoon that forms the thunderstorms as we check in on the feels-like temperatures with the hot day setting up for us here with the high temps in the 90s. it feels like 100 or 105. by the way, this pattern of a northeast wind will fire east

i don't think this will be the case with this one. i think we'll have enough moisture to crank on the storms between 4:00 and 7:00 before everything wipes out. again, all eyes on the tropics this sunday into monday. until then it's a typical pattern with afternoon storms and meanty of sunshine -- plenty of sun shine through the early part of the day. still ahead this morning, brand new access to prince fans. giving fans a behind the scenes look at the late singer's legacy. >> then an officer finds a student with a loaded gun at a bay area high school. the one question now the parents want answered this

time to redo it. drop water and if it beads up, you can wait longer. if it sinks in, it's time. >> reporter: start with pressure wash. you can damage your deck if you are not careful. common mistakes include power washing with too much pressure or spraying too close to the wood. >> you'll want to keep the tip of your power washer 6 inches away from the wood at all times and keep it at constant elevation and always keeping in motion. if you stop tore dwell in the area -- stop or dwell this an area, you are likely to leave a mark you can't remove. >> reporter: a penetrating oil- based stain is best instead of water-based products that coat the surface. you can apply a nunes breach brightener. that should restore some of the wood's original color. >> you want to make sure you are using one that does not include bleach because the bleach can damage the wood.

happens, sometimes we get the stronger storm as long the coast as we have the last couple of days. we'll have more on the extended forecast and of course an update on that tropical wave down in the crimean. 9:31. take a look at your screen here. this man could be the key to solving several indecent exposure cases. >> the man was on the last week, a person of interest who may have information about a guy who's been flashing students on campus. >> lindsay, some of the cases go back a year. >> reporter: there are a number of unsolved flasher cases here at usf. we did some digging. four in 2015 and six complaints already this year. so police are wondering, are any of them connected? that's why she just released

this person is a person of interest, someone who may have seen something or may have information about these flasher cases. in one instance last week, students reported seeing a man running naked through a parking garage on campus. the man in question in the videos was seen around the same time, the same place as one of those incidents. that's why pole with him. if you can identify him and you know information about any of these indecent exposure cases at usf, call campus police. i'm lindsay logue, abc action news. a man accused of pointing his gun at a deputy is set to appear in court today. the deputy fired a shot during yesterday's confrontation in st. petersburg. they say he tried crawling out of his father's house. he'd been hiding there for several weeks.

robbery, kidnapping, domestic strangulation and now he's charged with aggravate add salt on an officer and having a gun as a felon. that weapon was apparently stolen during a burglary. deputy as rested his father, earl austin, for hiding a fugitive. in pinellas county, parents want answers after a student was found with a loaded gun on campus. >> including the fact that he had the gun on campus all day. a probation officer school with two warrants for the arrest. when the officers searched the student, he found the gun on his clothes. >> parents want to know how long the student had been bringing the gun to school before anybody noticed. they also want a harsh punishment for him. >> i think they should prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law because he has a gun. i have a daughter here. anything can make him fly off the handle and pull the gun.

third degree felony charges. we are getting a new perspective on the heroin addiction through the eyes of a foster mom caring for one of the tiniest victims. we're concealing the foster mom's identity and also the baby's identity because the baby she was caring for was born addicted to heroin. the baby had to be put on methadone and detox for 11 days. the foster care system is in dire need of help to addicted babies. it's putting a big strain on the system. >> because the state is so heavily induced with so many children, they don't have the means to really protect these kids like they should. >> manatee county is the hardest hit. statistics show children were removed from homes la of the december at a rate of nearly three times the state average. the foster mom we spoke with says the experience has been

end of the day will have 34 offices in florida. the florida department of health reporting nine new travel-related cases of zika in the tampa bay area. of the hundreds infected with the virus across the state. 43 people, including one in pinellas county have contracted zika through some kind of in- state transmission. one woman didn't want to reveal her identity and didn't even realize she was at risk. >> i mean, i was si patio and had two bites on my arm. who's to think that the worst case scenario was going to happen to me? >> the woman says the health department calls her several times a day to find out more information about where she's been and when. she claims she's only been in palm beach county and believes she was infected around her lake beach home. it started out with a fever and rash and escalated to the point where she had to be hospitalized.

see, right? >> we had a low risk for severe thunderstorms. that was a bona fide outlook. we had 46 coming in and we'll show new a second here. the one that brought down the starbucks, talking about the structure coming down, immediately even before the national service crews go out there, you are talking about ferocious winds. looking at the tower cam, it looks fantastic. later on today, we could get wet this afternoon and not expectin look at this. this sun credible. -- this is incredible. 46 reported 165 mile-per-hour winds with the ef-3, a cat-5 hurricane. look at the storms that's fired multiple tornado warnings. if you are traveling, by the way, to this part of the united states, we're still looking at bumpy weather but not expecting what we had yesterday as the conditions are still unsettled

texas and own oak as well. we're looking good here. titan doppler radar scanning the titan doppler area. later on today, you can see the showers streaming in from the atlantic and turn nag thunderstorms as we head later on today. the pattern, by the way, will favor the movement for the next few days from east to west so the thunderstorms end up with us. the latest on the tropical wave, not much has changed. this is very disorganized. we have the strong winds up abov if it survives and heads to the bahamas, that's where we'll have the chance for additional development perhaps becoming more wind threat here for south florida and into the straits. i must tell you, this model taking us farther south and picking up on how disorganized it is. still to be determined, the track and the intensity. the impact for us will be a heavy rain event as i see it now sunday into monday. that may change. as this gets stronger, we may have to deal with wind as well.
