parents her substitute teacher choked her for no reason. she told her parents she couldn't breathe, and her mom took this photo that shows the bruises behind her little girl's ears. she says her daughter is afraid to go back to school. we know that the girl's parents are meeting again with police later this morning. again, we expect to learn more about that teacher this morning as well. deiah? >> thanks, lindsay. a pasco county high schooler is in trouble after tweeting this picture you see right there. if you look closely it shows a gun inside of a backpack with a message "if one more person makes fun of how i talk again." that student is suspended for ten days. the sheriff's office tells us the teen claims she was just joking, but beginning october 1st, a new state law goes into effect where similar threats, even those unintended could

schools. in pinellas county, a 15-year- old had a loaded gun on him on campus at lakewood high school. a probation officer is serving search warrants for his arrest when he found it tuesday under the teen's clothing. the student is facing third degree felony charges. this morning, we're getting a bird's eye look at some of the damage caused by wednesday's devastating earthquake in central italy. more strong after-shocks rocked that region just as people it's noon there now. the new tremors causing already damaged buildings to collapse. 267 people are confirmed dead. search teams are still looking for more victims. the first funerals are happening today. italy's prime minister canceling taxes for people living in the wake-ravaged area and authorized over $56 million in emergency aid for survivors. >> back here at home, families

for those whose homes aren't destroyed or still flooded, they are returning opinion officials are asking everyone not to turn on the air conditioning to keep mold from spreading. they are asking you to deep clean and let the area dry out for a few days. the red cross is now saying donations are not filling the needs there. right now, they received only about a third of the more than an estimated $30 million necessary to get people their feet. more than 115,000 people have filed for assistance. veronica knows this because her cousin is one of those people. his home is filled with more than 6 feet of water. she posted a simple message on facebook asking for donations dropping off food, clothing, or more. >> don't worry about sizes, gender, or whether you think they may or may not need it. they have nothing.

to louisiana at the end of next week. to donate or to provide a trailer, head to abcactionnews.com and click on this story for contact information. a 70-year-old florida woman is accused of nearly drowning her dog at a daytona beach area. a witness said that woman had a dog on the leash. as it was trying to get out of the water, she kept pulling the dog back in. the dog eventually lost consciousness. witnesses raced over and performed cpr on the dog. the dog is expected the dog's owner, though,facing animal cruelty charges. today, senator marco rubio is coming to the bay area to ask supporters to vote in next tuesday's primary election. he decided to run for re- election after dropping out of the presidential race. he says it's crucial conservatives vote early or on election day. he's set to meet and greet at plant city at 11:15 this morning. many voters are waiting

over 90,000 have already voted early or voted by mail in hillsborough county. in every bay area county, tomorrow will be your last day to vote early. voting ends on sunday in pinellas and hillsborough. a mural that people have covered with messages about their dreams and aspirations is getting its big debut in tampa today. the mural is called the "before i die" wall. these kinds of walls have been popping up country. this one is the first in our area. there will be an unveiling of the finished product today at 4:30. tickets are $25 for the reception and refreshment with proceeds going to charities. that wall will then be moved to a permanent spot next year. also in tampa bay, it is sports friday. cultural venues and restaurants and bars are teaming up once a month to show you what the city has to offer.

it's 6:15. new information this morning after two nuns were found dead in their home. >> police now say they believe the nuns were the victim of a robbery. it was on a deck excluded street that the missing car was found. officers aren't saying how the nuns died only that it was not a shooting. the nuns worked as nurse practitioners at a clinic for the poor. police have not found a motive. a mother is defending her decision to pepper spray students outside of an atlanta high school. >> she said she used that pepper spray to get several

two sons. the school district says foursteins had to be -- for students had to be treated. she says she wouldn't have had to use the pepper spray if the school resource officers were there. >> there were officers there, they were just on the other side. >> since the incident, she pleaded not guilty to a disorderly conduct charge. a number of families in central indiana are stuck in temporary shelters after wednesday's powerful the red cross is giving them a safe place to stay. governor pence stopped by to tour the shelter. the red cross is providing food and medical assistance this morning. we showed you this video right here. keep watching. that's that starbuck's that collapsed there. we're now finding out there were more than 20 people hiding inside of the bathrooms during the collapse. amazingly, nobody was hurt and the bathroom stayed in tact. one of the women inside says a

watching for what could be hermine. also, a disturbance up in the northern part of the gulf, which is bringing more rain into louisiana. the national hurricane center says that has about a 10% chance of development. looks like gaston may get stronger this weekend but continue pretty much out over open water. this one, invest 99l may get a name this weekend. it could be hermine. it looks at this point like this is a weakening storm and looks like for the will stay to the west of us. we'll have more on the hurricane track and show you the spaghetti plots. right now, we zoom in closer to home and see the showers and storms that left us with mostly clear skies right now. 79 degrees in sarasota. 77 in winter haven. we're looking at just about 78 degrees currently in tampa. most everyone else in the mid to upper 70s. we'll go through the day today and pick those temperatures up

then we'll see the showers start to build inland by about 2:00 or so. then it will pull farther back toward the coast. how will it affect this sort of activity, tailgating? there will be all kinds of tailgating all around west tampa on the side streets and parking lots and up by raymond james stadium. game starts at 8:00. stale gating can start as early as you can get out there. by 2:00, 4:00, through much of the afternoon, we have that 30% chance of scattered storms. nothing that's going to wash out your plans, but you may want to keep a tarp or poncho handy. by the time you head into a game, skies should clear looking for a temperature kickoff of about 86 degrees. looking for a 92-degree high tomorrow. about a 60% chance on sunday and we'll ramp those rain chances up. no matter what happens with hermine, looks like we're going

take a look at this picture right here opinion an australian marathon runner is calling that reunion with a special, cute dog a miracle. these two first met when the stray dog spotted then ran alongside the marathon runner for about 80 miles. >> that dog ran alongside dion leonard across china's goby desert. the runner decided to adopt the dog and take her back to the uk, but first, the dog wait in quarantine in china. unfortunately she zschau got loose and ran away. heartbroken, leonard flew back to china to find her. they spent several days searching for her. just when he was giving up hope, he got a call that someone found her. >> that was probably one of the best nights of my life last night when we walked through the door and saw her. she hasn't left his sight sents.
