cause problems. the showers look benign here, but these could be a little ferocious. they are rotating as you get any of them rolling through and making landfall. basically, you get a tornado warning. we've got a lot of shear in the atmosphere up above. the speeds are different and that will set the stage for that. winds in general from the storm itself, 40, 45 miles per hour. tropical storm force, not hurricane as we've be about. higher along the coastal course. the flooding will be an issue later this afternoon. we'll talk more about the accumulating rainfall that is still to come. just not going to be the rainful we had yesterday. it was supposed to be within the two days. we got it all yesterday, we'll get some today but not as bad. looking at a smooth ride because school is out in a lot of places. don't have any rain this morning.

flooding has cleared. tim jones is behind the wheel of our live drive cam. he is heading northbound on the veterans. as you can see the cars coming out with the headlights heading southbound. no crashes and we're hearing reports of possible debris in the roadway southbound adwaters. watch out for that. other than that you are looking at a smooth ride. the only other trouble spot we have is standing water reported at mcelroy avenue and come across the gandy bridge there. watch out for that and avoid that area if you can. else dids where, across the howard -- elsewhere, across the howard gandy, you are look going. in about an hour, families can get a first look at the damage after heavy rain forced families to evacuate their homes. >> michael paluska has been watching conditions out there overnight and throughout of the

out there right now? >> reporter: it's excellent compared to what it was. where i'm standing right now is waist deep. the flood waters sort of hung out in this guy's front yard. [no audio ] homes under water, first responders rushing to make sure everyone gets out safe. in my ten years in the area of doing emergency management, i know the lieutenant here has and it's never happened here. >> reporter: the emergency manager says first responders went door-to-door asking people to evacuate. only one family stayed behind. 12 others decided not to risk more rain and the water level rising. the main concern was high tide. luckily, the water dropped as fast as it rose and no one was hurt. >> we had one elderly person who just had surgery. we drove up with our high water vehicle and fire rescue and

high ground. ems checked that individual out and assessed that he was fine. >> reporter: the house behind me is built on a platform so none of the water got into the home. but two of the homes across the street are not build on platforms. we'll have to wait to see how much damage is inside once the homeowners get here later this morning. live in sarasota, michael paluska, abc action news. a clearwater community is still with evacuations there last night. >> this is not the first time they faced floodwater as the home. ashley yore is live at mariner's cove. what are people saying about flooding out there again? >> it looks like we're having technical issues with ashley's live spot. >> that's expected with the weather conditions. >> yeah. there is a look at the flooding there in the neighborhoods with folks having to evacuate again

the labor day sale is on now, at havertys. life looks good. hi it's 6:09 on a thursday in june. catching you up on the 60 mile- per-hour winds as it continues to move the rain in our direction here. we'll still have on and off showers that will be squally today. inches in a short amount of time. that will be a problem especially west of 75. by the way, today unlike yesterday, we have shear in the atmosphere, so the thunderstorms can rotate on us. it's incredible stuff here with pockets of a foot of rainfall here. we are going to continue to see bands rotating in with outer bands with a tropical storm that will eventually head up to the panhandle tonight and make

forecast overnight tonight towards the big bend. for us, anywhere from 1 to 3 inches and we can certainly take that and no issues across the interior counties. it will be along the coast with the rain and potential for coastal flooding as the winds pick up and push that water in at times of high tide around 2:00, 3:00. that is the latest. we'll be back with the extended forecast coming up in a few minutes. a consumer alert this morning. maybe you bought these for your hurricane kit or kids' lunch a recall on popular snacks from entenmann's that may contain pieces of plastic. they are recalling the little bites brownies and muffins and also variety packs with a best buy date of september 24th. at least one person has been hurt. all of the affected products have been shipped to at least 30 states, including florida, in the past two weeks. hundreds of animals are in

it's 6:14 on a thursday here. tracking hermine, still a tropical storm at 60 mile-per- hour winds. of course i don't think we'll get there as far as the strongest winds arriving here. that will be more towards the wind and heading towards the panhandle. the april latchen of course flying this thing quite some time the last week or so. the latest from them is no hurricane force winds right at the surface there. then of course on the western side of the storm, there's really not much, right, as far as thunderstorms? you can clearly see them switch over to radar. you can see all of the action is east. ossroads as we head through today.

as saturday. don't think we'll get that by any means here. there goes the storm, cat-1 landfall tonight with winds of 75 miles per hour. this area here on the southern side of the center circulation that is the area we have to watch for not just the storm but also the potential for rotating thunderstorms. our threat for tornadoes will continue to increase for today. not just a flat rain that we had yesterday, which is plenty cause problems for us later today. 6, 8, 9, 12, these are the wave heights as far as the storm surge. we still have to get through that later on today. even if we don't get a drop of water, we could get coastal flooding as a result of the storm surge coming in as hermine pushes that water offshore. winds up to 40 miles per hour. perhaps higher gusts, 40, 45 with especially along the

on today. the winds will, by the way, continue to increase. they are okay now but they will get gusty. coastal flooding and the tornadic threat that we'll watch. we've already had spinning thunderstorms offshore. they had been a little farther east with the issues this morning. again, that's what we'll watch for later today. wind gusts, 30, 35. the farther inland you go, the less rain there will be, the less wind there will be. again, this has always we will get showers and thunderstorms across the east as well. along those rain bands, with this broad circulation here, this storm heads inland as we head through tonight and continues heading into the northeast as we talk about the rainfall we'll get there. windy conditions today turning rather windy, in fact, by midday. tomorrow we don't lose the wind. we do lose the heavy rain and potential for tornadoes here. so we're looking at squally

early hours of friday. it's still making landfall. we won't have to worry about it coming in and hooking right. that's not going to happen. around the apalachicola, they will get the rains and winds will pick up. things will deteriorate through the evening and overnight hours early tomorrow. let's zoom in here. this is such a broad circulation that we have been inpacketted in a big way, which tends to be the case with tropical storm as opposed to hurricanes. they are messy and broad and all of the rain yesterday. we still have rain to get through. we're in a bit of a lull now. the problem is we are adding to the severe weather track as well. the individual cells don't look like much.

school coming into view. the interstates i-275, i-4 and all the way out to the howard frankland bridge is moving through. a hospital in one hospital has no patients at all because of an electrical fire. >> everyone being treated at region ale center bayonet point had to evacuate. marisela burgos is live in hudson with more on where the patients were good morning, marisela. >> reporter: this hospital transported patients to other area hospitals. they do have ambulances one by one on stand by in case somebody does come by and they will be taken to other hospitals if they didn't know what happened here yesterday. ambulances from different areas transferred the patients to hospitals in the tampa bay areaage an electrical fire

electrical fire wednesday parked an evacuation. the power went out around 6:15 wednesday. the wiring of the backup generator was damaged. rescue crews had to carry patients down steps and into ambulances. it took several hours for them to do that. the ceo of the hospital says they did test the generators and their systems a week it worked perfectly. marisela burgos, abc action news. as we track tropical storm hermine, we'll be closely watching high tide as it rolls into clearwater. >> james tully is out there live overlooking the section of clearwater beach. what are conditions out there right now? >> reporter: deiah, i'll tell you what we're seeing. we have large clumps of sea weed all over the beach. the gulf right now is rocking. you've got more waves than

a quick update on hermine. we want to bring you up to date on what's happening. 60 mile-per-hour tropical storm storm still out in the gulf. the heaviest thunderstorms are displayed to the east. it will still be in for us in rainfall in the form of bands. it will have squally thunderstorms as well. what that means is nasty wind gusts and the potential rotation as well. we've seen that offshore already this morning. the winds are not so bad right now, 15 to 20 along the coast and by the afternoon, the showers and storms. we'll talk more coming up in high tide in a couple of minutes. this photograph of fsu wide receiver travis rudolph sitting with a middle schooler in a school in tallahassee has

. we're talking of course hermine here with 60 mile-per- hour winds. i don't think the winds will be anywhere near hurricane strength. it's made the turn. by the way, it is a good thing. it had been crawling and moving very slowly. we like to see the movement at northeast at 12. it keeps things rolling along. that rainfall will continue moving off to the northeast. unlike yesterday, we all have the shield of rain open top of us, right, but we develop just to the west of us here. the squally showers have the potential to rotate because of the added wind shear in the atmosphere today. that is the spin that we'll be paying attention to what looks to be one of the nine showers here. they can pack a punch. some of them have the water spouts offshore. everything is moving parallel. the storms approach and the bands begin to approach to the east. wave heights down to the center

on are the tides later on today and the storm surge with the water getting pushed in. that is still 1 to 3 feet. we add that with the tides coming up, st. pete at 2 to 3 feet. 12:40 in clearwater as well. during that time, that is when we'll see the worst of coastal flooding that we'll have. by the time we get into the evening and tomorrow, we're in much better shape. as far as the wind gusts, 35 to anything over 39 is officially tropical storm force. certainly we'll get that along the coast. you go inland, and that's not going to be the case. we're adding this as well. not only with the wind tote but the potential for severe weather today. pretty much the entire area can see tornadic cells moving through. as has been the case with everything with the storm, as

trying to get its act together. if that happens, we'll have a 75 mile-per-hour landfall here, and that would be something. it would be the first time we've done that in 11 years at this point here, right? windy conditions for today as the winds begin to pick up. if you step outside right now and things seem calm, they will deteriorate. we'll get the squally showers and storms. still hanging on to residual tropical moisture. for saturdaysu holiday, we'll get back into afternoon thunderstorms. we'll have plenty of sunshine through the early part of the day. i'll be here as you enjoy monday. i'll have a nice break but hopefully not too much traffic on labor day. >> and not much tropics today. of course schools are out in hillsborough, pinellas and traffic is light out there. a lot of flooding we were watching overnight has receded. i don't think that will be a problem for enthusiasm morning.

northbound lane. hillsborough county fire and rescue responded first. now deputies are there as well. doesn't appear to be real bad, however, it is creating a little bit of a delay in that it's taken two of the three lanes. southbound in the morning in this particular area isn't highly driven so it shouldn't create much more problem than it is right now. back to the desk. 11 until 7:00. it's been more than a decade since florida experienced landfall and hurricane. hurricane wilma was last to hit in 2005. in the last ten years, there have been 66 atlanta hurricanes but none have hit us. meteorologists say it is a remarkable stretch that no hurricanes have made landfall since the state has 1200 miles of coastline. hermine is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall into big bend. team coverage of tropical storm hermine continues now as we take a look at the best of the

tropical storm hermine. don't forget to send us your pictures. you might see them on the news. deiah? aaa is offering tips for drivers who have to be on the roads today as hermine moves in. make sure tires are properly inflated for the best traction. slow down so you don't hydroplane on wet pavement. put on headlights and avoid flooded streets because it is hard to tell how deep the water is. tropical st important role of moving heat around the globe. some people are happy about the rain the tropical storm hermine is generating. peanut farmers desperately need the rain. they should get a good dousing from hermine. they are happy it's coming now instead of a few weeks from now. cotton farmers are hoping the high winds won't damage the crops. >> a weakening system brings heavy rain, high surf and

of hawaii. forecasters downgraded it to the tropical storm. the biggest areas are landslides. the highways could also cause beach erosion. just a reminder for anyone with a generator that you can use if the power goes out, they could be damaged if operated incorrectly. don't use a portable generator indoors, even in a garage. they produce deadly carbon generator outside. don't let it get wet to avoid being electrocuted. turn it off and let it cool down before refueling. never plug the generator into a wall unit. donald trump is not stopping his stance on illegal immigration. trump saying his immigration

at the time of high tide, we'll have flooding there along with the tornadoes throughout the day. >> complete coverage of the impact hermine is having on the bay area right now. >> from evacuations to dangerous beach conditions, crews are out right now monitoring it all. we start with ashley yore in pinellas county. >> reporter: the mariners community has been evacuated money people who live here say that the water was so high yesterday, about 4 feet down the road there, and at one point it was ac just to give you an idea of how bad it's been here, you can see people grabbing what they can carry and wading through the water. this community has been flooded out before back in june. right thousand, power has been cut to about 100 properties back here. with more rain expected this afternoon, it could stay off for some time. >> heavy rains forcing residents that live in this neighborhood to get out as fast as possible.
