wind. and here the bridge is there i promise but it is there -- barely visible. >> no it's not. looking live were hermine is heading. and, this is along the northern west coast. emergency management has evacuated this area. you can see some really rough surf, it's really kicking up. we have team coverage of this hurricane. multip c were flooding is still a big concern. let's start with denis phillips . >> yes, this is something that we have been talking about for the past nine days to and at long last -- and at long last it is a hurricane. it does not mean hurricane force winds we will not see winds anywhere close to
4:02 pm
nice thing is despite the fact that we have had rain rainfall totals have been nowhere near as heady. in the coastal flooding is the problem and you look at this and you say that looks a little bit different all of a sudden you have the look of a hurricane. and, really continue for the next 6 to 8 hourshe a best rain rolling. and, -- rain roll in, and another one might be an issue. but we will continue to track those unsure until midnight maybe longer and potentially additional flooding as the rains come in. and we will have an update on were hermine is heading. >> and we are under this tornado watch. we have had a couple of warnings and these other
4:03 pm
even into hillsboro and polk county, there will be an increased risk for those isolated tornadoes. so we will be watching for that and let you know right away if there is a warning. you can see the bulk of the rain is still offshore and, as we work our way into 8 pm it looks really dry. the bottom line is, the model isn't picking up the moisture. it will be training along the coastline. by midnight, we will s and tomorrow morning, if this model verifies just in time for the peak of the morning commute, it rolls on through through those major bridges. and, even some of this prther t southern counties were not necessarily completely dry

seeing some bands rotating so what's ahead and how much rain can we expect? governor. scott is expected to give an update anytime. by looking live there. the governor is not -- you are looking live there. the governor will as we told you, it is closed. and, they are in their live drive vehicle, warren what are you seeing? >> yes, what we are seeing a lot of water very high waves, some of it coming over the sidewalk, and we are seeing people that have pulled over trying to document this.
4:05 pm
barricades are up. still a few people out. but we want you to take a look at some video of how high these waves are. they are crashing over that wall it's very unsafe and cars are struggling to make it through these waters especially southbound kind of near the bayshore boulevard. and, if we can back out live we have learned that emergency vehicles are able to pass through at least until this unsurpassable. thus impossible -- not passable. reporting live, lauren back to you. >> we are having the wind and rain picking up. >> they are having some flooding there. and adam is live on the beach with more.
4:06 pm
is completely surrounded by water. and caught dennis was talking about that earlier. right here, about 2 mi.2 of land 17 miles of water most of this is coming from boca bay which it -- is a couple of hundred yards away from us. this is the southern part of the island maybe a mile from the hotel and where a lot of the residents live down here and it is also where the access is a steady steam -- stream -- so we have seen a lot of people with a steady stream coming true. basically, this right here is about a foot and a half 2 feet deep so far most of these vehicles have made it through it does look like it's been rising over the course of the day. of course some of these vehicles have been becoming --
4:07 pm
and we have been watching the water levels get up higher on the main boulevard there in st. pete beach earlier today we saw problems and of course right now this road is still open and anyone who needs to be out here needs to use extreme caution. reporting live, adam. thank you. and in pinellas county they are telling people to stay off of the roads. petersburg this is at the mlk street south near lake mcgrory. you can see the water creeping dangerously close to the front doors. the mayor even tweeting out that there is a mitigation project that are in the works. it will hopefully ease this flooding when there are future storms. let's go live from clearwater
4:08 pm
>> test >> reporter: yes it is closed but it's not keeping people away. here's what i want to show you. might not be able to see them, because the waves are so high at times. but when it gets low, you see these heads bobbing up and down. they're taking advantage of this. but they shouldn't be. the currents are very strong and, the title kind of goes -- tied they are trying to keep everyone safe. so, that's one issue the other issue is, the coastal flooding say you have been talking about. this- they have been dealing with this flooding. when it got to the point where it reached about this second
4:09 pm
than what we saw this afternoon later on this evening they are going to be careful because it could create an issue as they reach their second high tide. they had told us that they have not needed to rescue anyone and they hope to keep it that way. >> we have a lot of heavy sure unstable sand, from all the saturated water. you can talk right off the -- you get knocked right off of your feet. >> now, here's the thing, it's not only dangerous to the people who are going out to the water but also, there's people here on vacation trying to make the best of their vacation that is somewhat ruined.
4:10 pm

to 14 days. finally, it's coming today and bringing heavy rain across much of the area. so let's take a look at the possible rain totals from here on out. and 3 pm tomorrow morning we are looking at 1 inch -- 1 to 2 more inches of rain, about a half an inch those bands that go through the interior and then, when we work towards tomorrow night, we will see another band of rain coast. and anywhere around in inch to an inch and a half farther. so we are not looking at terribly high rain totals accumulating from oheren out. but a lot of damage has been done and take a look at these tides. the next one is tonight. so maybe we will see a little improvement. but probably not. and then, we get to a high tide at about 3:30 am.
4:21 pm
we will start to see some significant improvements with that coastal flooding. as long as we are not getting inundated with heavy rain. so, scattered storms off and on, mostly near the coast. and isolated tornadoes are possible through the night esorpecial about 11 pm. so let's talk about those wind speeds coming up next. we are staying on top of hurricane hermine waiting for that next update. other big headlines. what was aboard the space x rocket that exploded in cape
