day weekend, believe it or not, there could be hurricane force winds at the jersey shore. it will wreak havoc for the northeast this weekend. >> thank you, denis. right now another storm surge is hitting citrus county. and the people who live there are trying to salvage anything from their home that they can. >> many won't return until the water there all day touring the damage. how are things now? >> reporter: seemingly the people here in citrus county cannot catch a break. heavy rains back in the area. they're feeling the brunt of this storm. take a look behind me. most of the houses that you see looks like a swimming pool in their front yards. >> we found 51-year-old terry salye on gher ground, a >> i've been trying to get out

>> reporter: her mobile home park is under three feet of water. a mixture of rain water, run off from the river and raw sewage thanks to mother nature. >> oh. she wasn't very nice last night. >> reporter: saley is trying to get out but struggling. we had to help her rescue her two dogs. >> it's okay. it's okay. we've got you. >> reporter: others are trying to get into the flooded areas to check on their homes, even if that means walking barefoot through high water. >> >> reporter: they cannot callhb out, phone lines are down. 000 sidents waiting for power lines to be repaired. >> it's a big pain in the butt. because we don't have power, won't have power for i don't know how long. >> reporter: but the community is coming together, helping one another. >> i'm helping people get back and forth to the store to get bleach and laundry soap and just supplies.

closed its doors early this morning. so all of these people that you see are going in to get their belongings and coming right out. they're staying with family, friends or at area hotels. we're live tonight from citrus county, jacqueline ingles,. >> thank you, jacqueline. to pasco county where a tree smashed through this home, into a little girl's bedroom early this morn clifton french is live in new port richey. cliff, how did all of this happen? >> reporter: right now i'm just going to explain why we're inside of a live truck. there's a lot of lightning outside. so we had to move in here. as soon as we take this picture and kind of show you outside, i'm going to point right there, that's the trailer right there. now, it appears to have been a mix of saturated ground and wind. that oak tree uprooted, shearing off the back end of

it was an earthquake. >> reporter: this is a home of a young couple and two young children. >> at one point my daughter's bathroom, it took three feet off the end of the trailer like it wasn't even there. like a piece of paper. >> reporter: a fully grown oak tree. >> 40 feet tall. >> reporter: uprooting mitchell's family. he says the county is condemning his home. all damage. >> there used to be a bay window right there. you can see it kind of collapsed it right on down. there's nothing left of it. usable or anything. i mean, we have a piece of the roof that is still hanging there. electrical lines that are still just there. >> reporter: mitchell says it could have en much worse. this is his daughter's bedroom. he's been remodeling it. if that work wasn't being done, she could have been hit by this tree. now he needs to find a new

to sleep. >> basically homeless with my two kids for now until we can find and figure something out. >> reporte so this family is being put up at a hotel for a few days. after that, they don't know where they're going to live. but since this rain started, just to point out to you, check out this flooding. none of this water was here. the road that they live on, impassable. our truck is stuck here in this driveway now. so not only are they having to deal with this damage, they had to stop their clean-up and it appears they may even have flood damage to deal with if is but a gofundme page has been set up and i'm going to make sure that we post that on our website, abcactionnews.com. reporting live in new port richey, clifton french, abc action news. >> thank you, clifton. quite a mess out there.

restaurants are closed. no food. we went in a publix and it was absolute chaos. this clean-up will take a long time. >> it was raining really hard. and you heard a large boom. >> reporter: that's how it sounded last name for harold when this tree came down on his family restaurant. that gap is where his jeep was parked and it wasn't damaged. but the tree will cost at least $1,000 to remove. >> nobody st their live. that is a good through tallahassee after midnight. now roads are blocked, littered with branches, big and small. this tree snapped, falling on power lines, taking part of this pole with it. another tree came down and crushed a car next to clay roberts' house. while clay sits back and relaxes after a sleepless night, his teenage sons are, woulding the rakes in the front yard. >> we are cleaning up the yard.

inches of standing water. it is receding a little bit. but it has been pretty tough on the traffic situation out here. we talked with st. pete's mayor and he says the city is still reeling. >> quite candidly, this is one of the worst we have seen in the city in a long time. unfortunately it's not over yet. >> reporter: and people in esneighborhoods agree. our cameras captured some people wading through water saying they didn't ve and they just wanted to get to a store. some say it just i't worth it. >> i saw this. i thought i was going to walk thit. but that's too deep. it's knee deep. so there's no walking through that. >>reporter: and back out live, you can see, you know, there's still a lot of debris. and the mayor was warning about downed power lines. and, again, downed trees all over the shore aches and snell

overnight people blocked the roadway with dumpsters to send a message about the death. it's not clear if riggins made any threats against deputies but protesters say he was shot in his bed. they want the deputy fired immediately. we're talking with the deputies to try to get more information about the case. within the last three hours, tampa po man with murder after an 81 year-old who was beaten in his backyard has died. we told you about carlos two weeks ago. he did yard work for the 81- year-old and beat him during a fight over how much he was owed. cordero also took the man's wallet, car and clothes and left him for dead. he died this wednesday. here is a look at titan doppler radar. unfortunately still some heavy

homeowners are assessing damage to their property. >> here here to help. paul lagrone has what you need to know to get disaster relief. >> fema needs to declare a disaster. they have not done that yet. until they do, the fema money is not available for the folks who need it here. i have been on the phone with them all day. they're still in response mode. assuming they declare disaster, here is what you need right there. don't worry. if you didn't have enough time to copy all of that down, all of the information will be on give them a call and tell them to declare a disaster. they will ask you for your social security number, insurance information, bank ing anaccounting information. that's so they can send money and deposit into your account if you qualify. damage description. you have to

flooding. now there is a new storm water fee that he hopes will improve drainage and keep the holes from forming. >> it's not inexpensive. and we get that. but i'm not willing to sort of stick my head in the sand and pretent it doesn't exist when i know people's livelihoods are being affected and houses are being flooded. >> that fee would start at $45 per year for those who have sized home and $250 million in improvements. clean-up is underway ahead of the holiday weekend. debris is scattered all over the place there. clearwater public safety says the flooding has gone down a great deal since yesterday. what a mess. and some storms still lingering around out there. >> there are. again, it's worth noting because i think we get caught up. you talk about hurr specials. you talk about big hurricanes.

tropical storms. for our area, we get more tropical storms than anything else. because of it, the flooding can be a monster of an issue. we're suoued bywater. very often tropical storms dump more rain than hurricanes because they're usually going slower. they're usually more ill- defined which can create a lot of rain and unsettled weather as you saw on the out from anna maria island. you look outside right now and this looks more like summer pattern. in a sense it isn't because this is the moisture feed that extends all the way up to what is left of hermine. and unfortunately the one spot -- one of the spotthat needs it the left is pasco county. right now they're pretty much socked in with raacross most of that county, moving from west to east. literally it'slike a box around it. down to zephyrhills and right on back to new port richey, citrus county also picking up moderate rain. there are rain showers out in

hours will be that rain will start to wind down as opposed to ramp up like it did last night. temperatures you did notice in lauren's live shot, there is sunshine out there. things have rebounded in the afternoon across part of the area. the wind are still strong, gusting up to 30 miles per hour along the coast. 24 miles per hour gusts right now at the airport in tampa, where the temperature is 84 degrees. cloudy skies. clearwater 84. winds out of the south/southwest at hour. gusting even higherth st. pete sunny and 82 degrees. there it is. hopefully we helped you get through it, ease the stress a little bit as we were live all night long on facebook doing updates, following along as the secondary boundaries doctor e, that strong line of bands came through in the afternoon hours. there is still plty of moisture out in the gulf of mexico. you look at this and you think

more rain? there is. there's the moisture plume. but as hermine pulls away, a lot of this moisture will wind down. most of it doesn't make it into inland areas. it stays out in the gulf of mexico. there will be showers tonight. for that matter even tomrow morning because we will continue with more of a westerly flow. as long as we have thin the summertime and connected to a trical system, you will see morning rains around our region. sunday and monday, winds start to come around and that will give us a little re and warmer temperatures too. again, saturday morning, coastal showers early on. can't write it off. tomorrow not a great beach day. saturday afternoon, storms continue with a lot of moisture. by sunday, hermine is far enough away. we start to see more sunshine and a return of sunny skies much of the day, more afternoon and evening storms for your labor day. rain potential through next week. these are numbers that we can

we're not talking about double digit rainfall totals like a lot of folks had over the last couple of days. there it is. the latest track, 50 miles per hour winds. you can see as it moves up the eastern seaboard. this will be a nightmare for the folks in the northeast. you thought hermine was over. we will be hearing a lot more about it uniaxial news because it will be hitting an area that the national news loves to talk about, boston, philly, new eendare looking ore. at force from the del mar peninsula up to the jersey shore. and it stalls. so this could be a really nasty weekend. and it's going to be around for four or five days starting from the outer banks of the carolinas and just sitting there. and then maybe even eventually cutting off to the north. it's going to be more hermine nationally starting this weekend. while we begin to clear out,

>> live from the station taking action for you, this is abc action news. >> tropical storm hermine moving out of florida right now. still a dangerous situation here in the bay area. good evening. i'm paul lagrone. >> and i'm laura harris. flooding, power outages and fallen trees the big issue right now. we will take hit areas in a minute. but first let's go to meteorologist denis phillips. >> the last thing that we need to hear is there's a flood advisory for pasco county but there is. this is still the moisture plume. it extends all the way up to what is left of hermine. as you can see, there is still rain coming in. it is scattered. it isn't widespread. unfortunately it happento go right down across most of pasco county, around state road 54,

citrus county. there's a few more showers and storms pushing in from the gulf. that will continue this evening. off and on showers not as heavy and not as much wind. tomorrow is an unsettled day. we will salvage two thirds of the holiday weekend. we will talk about that coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you, denis. hermine making landfall as a hurricane along the northern coast of florida overnight. the first hurricane that the state has seen in 11 years. look the dock damaged. the surf so damaging in franklin county. michael paluska is in saint marks, 30 minutes south of tallahassee with just how damaging the storm was. >> reporter: the eye of the storm passed here clone to saint marks. the orsurge about two feet high, running into that bed and breakfast. now with the sun out, residents say they will clean up and rebuild.
