>> breaking news, rising water forces families out of their homes. right now the mandatory evacuation is going on in pasco county. good evening and thank you for joining us. >> tropical storm hermine is threatening the east coast. >> tonight lord and the area is still feeling the storms impact. >> we are watching the water rise in pasco county. >> it is not a completely rainy day today. with all of the rain falling over the past 72 hours we still have a lot of water that is resting into areas of pasco county. this saturated ground leaves -- leads to the runoff which leads to the streams and that is

start to see all of this residual flooding. thankfully we have dried out across much of the area. we are seeing sunshine in clearwater. 83 degrees. partly cloudy skies in tampa. 84 st. petersburg with sunshine and westerly wind and 81 degrees. going through this evening we will go down to about 80 by midnight. we will continue to get closer to normal. that doesn't mean the rain will go away, it doesn't mean we're going to have this deluge any longer. i will explain why we will start drying out sooner than later coming up in about 15 minutes. mandatory evacuations are in place in three communities in pasco county. that's because there is concerned about the rising water. >> ? is live in new port richey where residents are heading for higher ground. what is the latest? >> reporter: those people are already in shelters after being rescued today. right now we are at the blue

congress seat in massachusetts avenue. looking back here the good news is the water has gone down a little bit. below the blueline you can see where it is dark gray, that is where the floodwaters were about 24 hours ago. the bad news is if you look down this direction there is still quite a lot of standing water. in the park it is easily waste deep for many people that live there. we shot this video earlier of some dramatic rescues happening with rescue boats to get families of out and to safety. some even using air mattresses with paddles to push out. this is one of three neighborhoods in pasco county that has been issued a mandatory evacuation. we got some residents en garde -- off guard because it has been sunny most of the day. with the potential for more rainfall and the river hitting major such play tomorrow the county wanted to get everyone out of here before it's too

they are up to knee-high in water inside their houses. we have been trying to help everybody as much as we can.>> reporter: some residents are choosing to stick it out. the majority have decided to stay with people they know or to get bust to the hurricane shelter. in about five minutes on state route 51 the worthington court apartment complex also being evacuated. boats came in this afternoon to help get people out. others packed up their own bags, even moving trucks just to get away. so far the water is not inside in the units there. as a river rises that could happen and families are glad for the early warning and the chance to get out. >> luckily, like last year, we got woke up in the middle of the night. it is grab what you can and go. i was able to go back and grab

days worth of stuff so if i have to leave on okay. >> the river is expected to hit major flood stage tomorrow, at least 21 feet or above. people have been asking why this is mandatory now? back here you can see in the distance one of the electrical units completely underwater. that has been the case at a lot of these neighborhoods. they did shut out the utilities to these communities impacted as a precaution so there are no electrical fires. that is helpg to get out and seek shelter. >> thank you. the passado hurricane shelter in hudson is open tonight for families needing a place to go. pets are welcome. in addition to three mandatory evacuation areas, the oakhurst parkway area, worthington apartments and blue heron mobile homes, people in bass lake, magnolia valley and the suncoast mobile home park

people in pasco county try to clean up after the storm. jake reports homeowners and county leaders are still battling the forces of nature. >> reporter: hermine is long gone but it is hard to tell after the afternoon rains in west pasco county. the driveway in this park i now like a pond and debris all of the place. residents are hoping mother nature will give them a break. tonight people in pasco are ho to stay away. >> i've had more than enough. >> reporter: and made it through. when several more inches of rain were dumped on her already wet mobile home park on saturday she was forced to leave by boat. >> it was going into my car and it was getting ready to go into my house.>> reporter: 15 others did the same. they aren't sure how bad the destruction will be. >> i feel really discouraged right now. it sucks. really.>> reporter: and a

she had water in her house and her fences broken. she was hoping to use this weekend to clean up. >> i'm still waiting for the rest of it to come through. i know there's more coming. >> reporter: it's hard to clean when you have no power. don says he has been in the dark for two days. >> now pleasant. no phones, no refrigerator. i have the generator running now. >> what we don't need people in says the county is and has been prepared for the storms. he says they have ordered extra pumps and rescue boats. >> we're looking at this being not just a wednesday, thursday friday event but a saturday through monday event. we are ready for it. >> reporter: the county stressing patience tonight. these people are tired of waiting for relief. >> it is really frustrating especially when you feel trapped . there is no power.

watch the storm. >> a quick look outside showing a very different view from earlier in the week as hermine moved through. the big problem was -- which beaches will need re-nourishment work? deputies are looking for a missing teen in polk county. there saying 18-year-old austin welch jumped into the peace the current swept them away. anyone who sees austen is urged to contact police immediately. the woman caught on video sitting -- setting a car on fire is in jail. for one year. she's facing a second-degree arson charge. she told police she thought the car belonged to her ex. 5.6 magnitude earthquake rattles oklahoma. it happened around 7:00 this morning. this is one of oklahoma's

this is a picture of a brick home with a huge crack in it. that house is about 30 minutes away from the epicenter. people in missouri, arkansas and iowa all report feeling the earthquake. we are learning new jersey police are investigating a recent police shooting in atlantic city. one officer is in critical condition and one suspect is dead. a $20,000 reward is being offered for any information on the shooting. officials are saying shots fired outside of caesars casino. a shootout started when police tried to stop the one suspect died at the scene. the other was found a block and a half away. authorities are now looking for a total of five suspects in the shooting. the us and china both on board with the paris agreement on climate change. president obama announced the formal us ratification earlier today. obama the president of china submitted the nation's plans to reduce carbon emissions to the un chief. obama is in china for his last

a former nfl hall of famer back in headlines. this time under arrest for dui in florida. former new york giant lawrence taylor not only sideswiped a patrol car but also crashed into a motorhome on florida turnpike in palm beach gardens. it happened around 5 pm friday. taylor apparently agreed to take three field sobriety test. we're told performing badly on

fresno official saying two officers were injured in an active shooting situation in the fresno county jail in downtown fresno california. police say suspects started acting erratically inside the jail and was told to cooperate with officers. that's when he pulled out a gun and started shooting. no word on any injuries. a rescue helicopter finds the bodies of two people in the ocean after their plane crashes a mile from port everglades. and 200 yards from an airport runway. the faa telling us tower control warned the pilot of heavy rain. the pilot did try to change course, but it was too late. the cause is under investigation. who says rain on your wedding day is bad? quite the contrary for one north carolina

this shot came in from the port of tampa. looks like a carnival cruise ship getting ready to pull out as the weather finally clears. we will look at the weather headlines. we are returning to normal. hermine is steaming out of here . once it made landfall yesterday as a category one hurricane it scooted right through georgia, south and north carolina and is right now sitting off the virginia, delaware, maryland coastline. the messy weekend for folks the atlantic states. reduce rain chances ahead for us . watching the web we have gotten some great pictures including our friends at jimmy's nest. things really cleared out nicely this afternoon for a lot of people. we will need to see more of this blue sky. we still do have these areas where flood warnings are in effect because of the rivers still rising. even though the rains have

areas through pasco, hillsboro, manatee and counties further south. as far as the radar showing the rain coming through today, we did have some good showers that moved through and then we cleared out behind it. we have actually seen some blue skies. there is more rain back here in the gulf. the potential for rain is with us again tomorrow as hermine continues to scoot off, sitting just off the east northeast at it will still be a mess for those folks. for us a return to normal. right now we are at 84 degrees in tampa. same reading in ruskin. 80 -- 81 clearwater. 86 right now in auburndale. 83 spring hill. mostly middle 80s. we will see a few lingering showers this evening. most everything will continue to scoot to these. tomorrow we will watch for about a 40% chance of showers
