fighting and who you are fighting with. good morning, thank you for joining us with abc. >> it's the last day of a three- day weekend for many. >> some five for the kids -- >> five-day weekend. >> what a bonus. it came with our big storm which is long gone at this point. i think we're just looking at afternoon showers and thunderstorms today, nothing unusual. as we check in on the forecast we'll talk about temperatures now in the upper 70s. nice and mild skies. a few clouds otherwise looking pretty good, the earlier part of the day will be the drier part of the day. just think middle of the summer kind of pattern. it's what we're in for today before some drier air moves in. not in time for the long weekend. that comes in tomorrow. today i think rain chances still 40% to 50%, pretty good bet with temperatures now in the mid-70s. crystal river and brooksville. our temperatures beginning to come down a little, it's still early in september. by the end of the month we'll see a big change but beginning

averages and overnight low averages getting a little bit lower now, cooler with high temperatures this afternoon right where they should be for this time of year. we have some moisture left over, you can kind of see that in the morning. when you have a satellite and radar perspective where you're already seeing moisture on top of the state gives you an idea of what is going to happen through the afternoon. so showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop but to the north there is some dry air, you can't see it on that view but you see the orange hues. we'll talk into that beginning tomorrow and that will our rain chances 20% to 30%. for today we're still looking at a pretty good coverage between 1:00 and 5:00 so if you have outdoor plans just keep in mind we're going to see showers and storms and there will be some lightning with these as well. so if you hear thunder you want to get the kids inside from the pool. before we get into the storms though we'll have plenty of sunshine early on. futurecast will show the motion as far as the storms developing today. then everything pushes northeast to southwest. so by 3:00 in some pockets we're raining pretty good.

evening. notice the flow from the northeast. that is when we begin to see drier times. that is ahead for tomorrow. we'll talk more about that in the extended forecast in a few minutes. 5:32. breaking news -- a fight at mcdonald's ends with one person stabbed. clearwater police say a group started to fight at the fast food restaurant around 3:00 a.m. then the dispute escalated at a 7-eleven on south missouri avenue. that is where the actual stabbing happened. that victim is hospitalized, doctors say he should survive. officers showed arrested a suspect but haven't released any names. it's 5:32. flooding is still forcing people from their homes in pasco county. mandatory evacuations are still in place now but some folks are refusing to leave and that is keeping law enforcement very busy. abc action news anchor james tully is live in the elfers community. i imagine this is causing all kinds of problems.

they say they can't control what people do but law enforcement job is to keep people safe. and that's what they are trying do do, working very hard, fwc is. you can see though the severity of the situation. ivan mentioned the storm long gone but look at this -- posted no trespassing signs. over top of that is the backyards of several mobile homes. it's completely flooded. water making its way to the doorsteps of some elevated homes here. yesterday fish and wildlife officers gave us a tour of the area. we got a closer off the river. water chest-deep in areas. families struggling with their kids to try to get around and swimming in this filthy waters. fwc working 16-hour shifts and have one goal in mind. >> public safety. biggest thing. just making sure everybody's safe. if anybody needs help we give

news. water levels are dropping, crested yesterday, slowly going down but officials say it could be one week, up to a week before people can get back safely in their homes here. investigators trying to discover what started a fire that left a family homeless in hernando county. the family escaped sunday morning but by the time firefighters arrived the flames firefight hearse to call in a tanker truck because there are no fire hydrants in the area. they were able to keep flames from spreading to other buildings but the main building a total loss. the red cross now helping the man and woman who lost their home. a former corrections deputy is now in jail in pasco county on suspicion of dui after crashing his car into a house. florida highway patrol officers arrested jack armstrong jr. sunday morning. they say he drove through a

the accident caused $57,000 of damage to the home. 71-year-old homeowner suffered minor injuries. armstrong since resigned and is facing dui charges in democracy 2016 -- after the fundraising hillary clinton returns to the campaign trail tomorrow with events scheduled in florida. she will make a stop in tomorrow usf's student recreation center. over the weekend her running mate tim kaine attacked donald trump comparing him to former president richard nixon. >> he has openly encouraged russia to engage in cyberhacking to try to find more e-mails or materials and we know that this cyberattack on the dnc was likely done by russia. a president was impeached and

the dnc. >> tim kaine also defended clinton's use of a private e- mail server while secretary of state saying clinton admitted it was a mistake. russian president vladimir putin publicly denies being behind the dnc hack. in an interview he called the theft and publication of e- mails "a public service." he says there's no reason to investigate who did it, he claims it's a distraction. according to cnn sources the u.s. convinced that russia is behind the hack and recent attempted breaches at "the new york times" and several washington think tanks. donald trump needs to win arizona to win the election. but the arizona junior senator republican jeff flake says he still can't vote for trump. >> i would like to vote for donald trump, it's not

he's taken and the tone and tenor of his campaign i simply can't. >> flake says trump's rhetoric on illegal immigration and attacks on fellow arizona senator john mccain's war record are the reasons he currently can't support the billionaire. last week mccain easily won the arizona republican primary. trump was quick to respond to flake's attack on social media. libertarian nominee gary johnson picked up a big endorsement this weekend from a traditionally republican newspaper. editorial board of the richmond times dispatch had endorsed republican presidential candidates the past 36 years until this year. they picked johnson. in an editorial the praise contrasts the former new mexico governor with republican nominee trump and democratic nominee hillary clinton. the paper said both trump and

character traits to be president. the editorial also called for johnson to be included in the nationally televised debates alongside trump and clinton. with many calling this year's presidential election one of the dirtest in decades it's a good reminder as to why politics are considered one of the taboo topics to bring up at dinner parties. according to a new huffington post poll 45%, nearly half of americans already got into a verbal or physical fight over the election. 38% say they've argued with a friend. 30% with a member and 16% with a family member. if you have not argued yet don't worry, you have 63 days left to election day. black lives matter demonstrators may be preparing for more protests tonight in tampa. many are outraged after the hillsborough sheriff's deputy shot and killed an unarmed man tuesday in the palm river area. that shooting is under investigation. a man who was killed by a a

hermine is now slowly moving north along the eastern seaboard and disrupting labor day plans for people up north. >> it's not expected to cause any major rain or flooding because hermine is off-shore but causing dangerous rip currents. millions of people were looking forward to spending the last summer holiday at the beach, but strong rip currents forced some beaches to close to swimmers. the weather up north as warm and sunny yesterday but officials are warning people not to be deceived by the pleasant weather. and keeping them out of the water. >> any signs up, people still ask if it's ok to swim. we've had to tell people and had lifeguards that have been very careful at keeping people out of the water. >> sand dunes are already taking a hit from the pounding waves. crews worked through the weekend to show up dunes to keep the storm surge at bay. coastal flooding and beach erosion is the biggest concern from virginia to southern new england.

certainly profit tropical. i spent a lot of ruined labor day weekends at cape cod with torrential rain and very heavy wind but we're talking about the rain staying off-shore. we'll get clipped a little but the big concern will be the rip currents as folks head to the beaches although i'm from florida, we will not like the water temperature even in the late summer it's still to- numbing cold across the northeast. tow. there's post tropical hermine, it will eventually go the latter part of the week. we're generating 15 to 20-foot seas diminishing as it gets closer but the swell, propagation of water creates the rip current situation. of course through our neck of the woods we're in better shape as hermine left us alone. 1 to 2-foot seas, good for boating. in fact as we continue to track the issue with the leftover volume of water in our rivers and streams. that has to go to the gulf.

in the next 48 hours we'll be in much better shape in pasco as far as the anclote. title titan doppler radar quiet. you can see moisture left around, that will set the stage for another round of showers and storms today. in fact i think the coverage a little higher today 40% to 50%. that will happen through the afternoon. then we get into the northeast flow with some dry air up above. that will begin to limit our rain chances tomorrow and through the end of the week, 20% to 30%. i think we'll be in shape as storms develop. so let's time this out. if you're at the beaches, the storms will arrive there later but across the interior counties already raining by 12:00, 1:00. then everything pushes to the beaches by later on this evening, between 5:00, 6:00 the even towards venice still seeing rain left over around 7:00. then it winds down tomorrow and we'll transition into drier days ahead through tomorrow and middle part of the week. tropical development, watching the atlantic basin here.

$1 million in his 50 years as a librarian. he left the money to the university of new hampshire with a big chunk earmarked for the library. the librarians say it was a total surprise. a bench outside the building already inscribed with his name. the school is also building a new multimedia room in the library with his name on it. >> he watched lots of videos and tried to inspire students to be interested in film. >> the school says the bulk of the money will help expand their career services center. part will also be used for student scholarships. london celebrated the anniversary of the great fire by setting london on fire again. this time they just burned a model of the city that had been created especially for that event. 70 people spent two months helping create the london 1666 display so they could burn it. experts say the great fire was actually a key factor in
