their homes as mandatory evacuations remain in effect. anchor james tully is live there now. you found some people who are refusing to leave. >> reporter: i talked to a couple of people this morning that say their homes are within a couple of inches of taking on water and because they didn't they stuck around. i want to show you, you see somebody try to work through elfers parkway here. you can see the water flowing. there people can get home. not so much here but some spots the current is so strong it can sweep you away. further down the parkway, footage from yesterday, you can see water much higher, families forced to use canoes to get back and forth or wade through water that is not very clean. many have gone through this before and that could be a reason mandatory evacuations are not enough to get them to vacate their property. >> there are people that live here, most of their lives.

they know what the river does. that's why a lot of people don't leave. >> reporter: fwc was patrolling yesterday working to keep people safe. from getting swept away in the currents. back here live i want to show you the parkway, this direction you can see that nobody's getting their homes today. the water is just starting to recede. officials say it could be a week before they can get home safe. you can see mailboxes, that's about it. it looks like two rivers here. that is a so again it could be several more days before people can return home safe. live in pasco county, james tully, abc action news. hernando county is offering a helping hand. the waste department there is offering curbside storm debris removal in coastal communities starting today. the county's west side waste convenient center in spring hill will also be open until 5:00. we're learning governor rick scott is sending extra

more than 50,000 people are still without electricity in florida. mostly in leon county where tallahassee is. the state is paying for extra contractors to start working this morning on downed power lines and hopes to get all customers back on line sometime today. the governor spent the weekend touring flooded areas of pasco county like properties along state road 54. also met with flood victims in the worthington court apartment evacuate saturday. many want mother nature to give them a break. >> i'm really mad -- more upset than mad because i lost my home. i can't be in my home with my children. i have to stay with family. >> governor sending out 56,000 packages of hygiene products to help flood victims along with six trailers of water.

tallahassee to power traffic signals. we'll talk about the river situation up in new england. they are still dealing with hermine. most of us are approaching 80 degrees. we'll get there and get to around 90 for the afternoon high. look at titan doppler radar, pretty quiet here on the visible -- a lot of moisture with us today. that will yield a 40% to 50% chance of rain. look at the impressive visible salti now that we're g a distinct center is impacting new england. that's what's left of hermine. we'll talk more about that and the flooding situation in pasco along with the extended drier 7- day forecast. quick check on the roads here. looking live at the howard frankland bridge, 275 across the bridge there, no big issues to report. on this labor day volume will pick up a little later as folks head home after the holiday weekend. pinellas county deputy is

green failed to stop at the red light at main street and belcher road and then collided with a pt cruiser. rescuers took him to the hospital with non life- threatening injuries. the driver and passengers in the cruiser were not hurt. turning to a developing story from pinellas county -- a fight at a mcdonald's ends with one person stabbed. clearwater police say a group started fight at the fast food restaurants 3:00 this morning. that dispute eschaited at a 7- eleven on south that is where the stabbing happened. the victim is hospitalized and should survive. officers showed up quickly and did arrest a suspect but haven't released names. tragic news to tell but now. 18-year-old from polk county sacrificed his own life to save his little sister. a dive team recovered austin welch's body yesterday. investigators say he, his mother and 11-year-old sister were fishing in the peace river saturday, when the little girl fell into the river while casting her line.

but sadly he was swept away by the current. officials spotted his body using sonar. they say welch likely drowned but are doing an autopsy to be sure. right now manatee county officials need your help to find the man you see over my shoulder. 36-year-old ian oswald left his house halftime night after apparently threatening to hurt himself. oswald is a military veteran with ptsd. if you know where he is call the manatee county sheriff's office. over the weekend nebraska to show love and support for the family of little lane graves. the 2-year-old boy killed in june by an alligator at walt disney world. the crowd gathered at a local high school and released 5,000 balloons in his honor. saturday would have been his 3rd birthday. those attending wore blue in his memory. at the event his parents spoke publicly for the first time since losing their son.

at least 38 people dead after violent explosions strike government-held cities in syria this morning. according to syrian state media several bombs went on in the cities of tartus, homs and damascus. this is a look at some of the damage left behind. isis claims responsibility for one of the attacks in syria this morning. authorities say a bomber blew himself up while riding his motorcycle in a traffic circle. five people died and 15 injured in that blast. this morning at the g-20 summit in china president obama discussed the situation in

agreement on a ceasefire that would allow humanitarian aid to flow back into syria. however, they did agree to continue negotiations. terrifying new video shows the moment after a building in tel aviv collapses. the israeli national rescue service says one person was killed. still others trapped under the rubble. it happened at a construction site. no word on what caused it but we know that nearly 20 people are injured. the lobby of a central california jail is open again this morning ex convict shot two officers while waiting to visit one. the officers are still in the hospital. thong vang was arrested and facing attachmented murder charges. despite this the jail won't

investigating the shooting. brock turner was released from a california jail friday after serving three months for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. angry and armed protesters also gathered in the front of turner's home upset over his release. last week california lawmakers passed a bill mandating prison time for similar sex crimes. governor jerry brown has until september 30th to decide if he's going to sign it. the terrifying carjacking all caught on camera at an atlanta gas station. this surveillance video shows a man leaving his car to pay for gas inside the station. what you don't see, he left his 1-year-old twin girls in that car. he heads back to the car and realizes there's a man in the driver's seat and then the car speeds off. >> i ran unlock the door and he took off. >> police found the girls about a quarter mile away after the thief abandoned the car in an atlanta -- in an apartment complex parking lot. police say one of the twins was

we're going to melt those a bit and get sunshine and that will set the stage for another round of showers and storms today. i mentioned about 40% to 50%. a little lower yesterday but we'll get back to into storm coverage today and then dry air works in. satellite and radar now looking good as we look at what is going to be happening with rain coverage. lowering tomorrow as the northeast wind takes over but it will pull in lower rain chances. tuesday through thursday, diminishing rain time. the shot from post-tropical hermine. this looks pretty impressive. the worst of the weather however off-shore. for new england. big drought going on in eastern mass, need it. they have problems at the beaches there across the northeast. for us, when hermine left, they left water. this was 25 feet, we've crested

morning, still 23 feet. by tomorrow we're going to get below 20 which is flood stage. so we're on the way, it's just taking a while. we've shown you the scenes as we continue to see problems in pasco county. as we check in on the extended forecast taking you in through the remainder of today rain chances holding at 50%, around 89 for the high. highs over the next few days pretty typical for this time of year. what we won't afternoon showers and storms so then i think by tomorrow already most of us are actually going to stay dry. i think it's going to be mostly sunny day on dry air on top of us. you get the crystal blue skies. then if at all we get 10% to 20% coverage. then we'll begin to slowly get more moisture working its way in. so by wednesday and in through the end of the week here, get back into rain chances 30% to 40%. typical for this time of year. overnight temperatures falling

around 90. tropics, there's one disturbed area out there, we'll talk about that in the next forecast coming up at the bottom of the hour. 9:18. the world's largest living primate now on the critically endangered list. the world conservation congress in hawaii adding the eastern gorilla to the list over the weekend. that now makes four of the six great apes species only a step away from extinction. experts blame illegal hunting for the species status. only an estimated 5,000 eastern gorillas look at this -- an elk got tangled in a large swing, a tire swing over the weekend in arizona. the rope managed to get tangled around the animal's antlers. >> the woman whose backyard this happened in, says she was in shock. she saw the animal trapped but lucky for the elk the woman is a veterinarian. it took 12 hours to free the animal. here's the moment it happened. >> i went up to him, i cut it

9:22. she can put on a seatbelt with no hans. flying a plane with her toes, a black belt in tai kwon do. the one thing a woman couldn't do at universal studios led her to file a lawsuit. >> jessica cox born without arms but didn't let her disability hold her back so this is why she was fired up when she got this message. >> every single ride that moves has a brought blanket restriction that says my situation being without both arms and hands i could not be on any of those rides. >> park officials informed her of the policy by handing her a pamphlet when she walked in.

to continuously grab on to rides with at least one upper limb. park officials refunded her ticket but weren't willing to make an exception. she was not even allowed on kiddy rides. >> she's filed legal action with the state and hopes the park will tailor the policy to be more accepting of people with certain disabilities. universal orlando spokesman says they don't comment on discuss court cases. new developments in san francisco 49ers quarterback colin cap kaepernick's protest of the national anthem, now there's a form of a boycott. we showed you last week kaepernick wearing socks depicting police officers as pigs. santa clara's police union sent a letter saying kaepernick continues to make inaccurate, incorrect and inflammatory statements like this one from last thursday. >> we have cops that are murdering people, we have cops

racist. >> yesterday kaepernick was a no show at a church service in san francisco. he was supposed to talk about why he's refusing to stand for the national anthem. u.s. soccer star megan ranenow shows her support for kaepernick. she tweeted this -- the least i can do is keep the conversation going. kaepernick says he's refusing to stand for the national anthem in protest of racial injustice and minority oppression. check out the ending to yesterday's nascar camping world truck toronto. john nemechek and cole cluster battling the finish line, before custer is pushed off the track. nemechek walks back to grab the checkered flag and out of nowhere here comes custer flying in, tackling him to the ground. crews quickly separate the two men. a number of nascar drivers

dirty. look at the sideline - >> wonder what the person who drew it was doing before getting behind the paint sprayer. >> a visiting team showed this squiggly line. since then the twitter picture has gone viral. both coaches were said they discussed the line and agreed to play anyway. the district doesn't know what happened when the line was drawn but some people have theories. >> what was your reaction when you saw it? >> like someone had been drinking a little bit. it's a funny joke. i don't think it makes them look bad nationally. >> the school district says it will fix the crooked line before the next home game. the maker of gatorade has come out with a new organic version. it will be in select markets this fall. g-organic comes in strawberry, lemon and mixed berry flavor. it reportedly only has seven ingredients including organic cane sugar and sea salt.

i'm deiah riley. >> i'm dan shaffer. nice day yesterday, what do you think of today? >> i think the first part of the day will be ok. you're already seeing -- remember the clouds this morning? it was gloomy. we talked about them melting away. they are doing that as we get heating. so plenty of sun early. we'll have a few clouds building and by the afternoon we have enough moisture which is why we have that cloud deck earlier this morning. that will combine for rain chances today that will be higher than what we like on the labor day. zero would be great. well, we're going all the way the drier air moves in. that happens tomorrow. then continues with us through the middle part of the week. that will limit rain chances here. there's hermine, post-tropical, we'll talk more about that and the track it's going to be taking, but more importantly for us it's what it left behind. all that rainfall, had to go somewhere. it went into our rivers and streams, still looking at the problems in pasco. we are going to go below flood stage by tomorrow. below 20 feet. that is good news but still a

in pasco. heading into the fooling weekend, we'll talk about coming up mandatory evacuations are not enough to keep some people from their flooded homes in pasco county. neighborhoods along the anclote are still dealing with the effects of hermine and could be a week before things return to normal. >> james tully is there live. officials warn this area still is not safe for people. >> reporter: for one, parts of this flooding is with debris. then you've also got a situation where there's some current issues. i want to show you how the water is flowing through here. in other parts of elfers parkway we'll show you in a second, florida wildlife say there are -- parts of the current so strong it can knock you over. this is footage from yesterday. the water much higher here. families forced to use canoes to get back and forth or wade through dirty water. one person i spoke with did

to pull up carpet and just assess the damage. >> you get a listening frustrated but what can do you? it's mother nature. it gets ridiculous year after year. people getting tired of redoing their house every year. >> reporter: the anclote prone to this, people used to it but doesn't make it any easier. this is the area this moin you see mailboxes and well, two rivers here. anclote and what the parkway looks like now. as ivan mentioned the water is on its way back down but officials say it's going to be at least a week before everybody here can return home safe. reporting if pasco county, james tully, abc action news. the erosion that hermine's pounding waves and high surf did to pinellas county beaches could be the worst.

the coastal zone management office expects the erosion to be greater than the damage caused by tropical storm debbie in 2012. the team from the university of south florida will survey exactly how much sand the beaches lost and they say the tides are still higher than usual now and waiting for them to go back to normal before they figure out exactly how much sand was lost. the unofficial end to summer vacation will be a wet, windy and wasted one for many americans hoping for one last day of the beach. though it's no longer a hurricane, hermine is not done strong storm surge threatened the coastline from south carolina to as far north as connecticut. thousands of homes in the carolinas already lost power. further north officials in major cities are taking every precaution. in new jersey atlantic city officials cancelled two outdoor concerts. governor chris christie telling people to stay calm saying it's not hurricane sandy which devastated that area in 2012. in ocean city, maryland officials issued an advisory warning people to stay away from the beach and out of the

vacations. >> it's a shame. we were looking forward to a good weekend but if we get it over now and we got clear sailing for the next couple of weeks -- >> ocean city beach patrol will be on duty keeping people away. they say even after the storm passes and it's sunny the biggest concern is the rip currents afterwards. they say that is the most dangerous time to go into the water. tracking the latest now in the war on the zika virus. a new report is calling for additional research on the birth defects the having on babies after they are born. >> scientists now saying the affects impact a baby even six months after they are morning. the findings come after a case reported in brazil last week, a baby started to show signs of developmental problems six months after being born. this is important because four months before the baby -- before the baby didn't show signs and was thought to be ok. >> the scientists now say in new development underscores the

asking for more information since this was the first case to report the change. 30 handguns and 10 semiautomatic rifles now on the streets after a burglary at a gun shop. we have pictures of that break- in and suspect's truck. officials say that the suspects smashed the window of titan arms on south florida avenue in lakeland. witnesses say they took off after stealing the weapons. if you know anything more call crime stoppers. new this morning, police say a a threatened to carry out a pulse nightclub style attack on labor day. police jailed craig jungworth on an unrelated charge. they say he posted messages on facebook targeting people in a specific broward county community. one post even references the june 12th mass shooting at pulse nightclub in orlando. he's accused of writing a tweet --

problems in the past and even vandalized his business. >> i absolutely feel relieved. we were concerned that he would show up again. >> acquaintances say jungworth is openly gay and even organized progay events. he's set to appear in court in orlando tomorrow. a weekend crash lands a former corrections deputy in jail. 23-year-old jack armstrong jr. of hudson now faces dui charges in pasco county. resigned. investigators say he had a stop sign on balsam -- hit a stop sign and slammed in front of a home and caused $75,000 in damage. a 71-year-old man inside suffered minor injuries. officers want to remind you of your options if you plan to drink this labor day as they try to keep everyone safe. sarasota police just one of the agencies now taking part in the national drive sober or get pulled over campaign. they remind you to plan ahead

planning a funeral. a man accused of killing the mother of his children in front of the 2-year-old and 4-year- olds. police say lacy kelly died from beating and stab wounds. the family says they had no idea of the problems between kelly and her high school sweetheart who was also the father of her children. the children were not hurt during the attack. >> that is their last memories of their mom watching this happen to her. i just can't imagine. >> the sheriff says the man accused of kli he'll be charged with murder as soon as he's released from the hospital. the family wants to share the story in hoping hopes of saving someone else who may be in a domestic abuse situation. a man killed by a police officer during a traffic stop laid to rest but the controversy hasn't. mourners gathered to say goodbye to filando castile yesterday. his death made national news after minnesota police officer shot and killed him during a routine traffic stop in july.

facebook live. filando castile's mother also wants change and working with lawmakers now to pass new laws. >> he's paving the way for change. that's what it's all about. we need to change the way we live in this society. >> the governor asked federal authorities to step in and investigate. the family waited to bury him wanting him to be remembered on his grandmother's birthday. a pilot performing stunts over the trinity river near houston, texas died saturday when t crashed nose first into the water. witnesses say they saw that plane flying low over the water when the pilot attempted a backwards loop the plane's engine stalled causing it to role over and crash. the pilot, 26-year-old patrick falterin and 125-year-old friend died in the crash -- 25- year-old friend died in the crash. the governor of oklahoma has declared a state of emergency following a major earthquake there and may have

industry. an increase in strong earthquakes in oklahoma is linked to underground disposal of wastewater from oil and natural gas production. on saturday a 5.6 magnitude quake rocked north central oklahoma. ties a record for the largest earthquake in state history. now 37 wastewater disposal wells are shut down in oklahoma for 10 days. there are no reports of any major damage but the quake was strong enough to rattle locals. >> i thought well here comes another one. we've had here one just wouldn't stop. >> the quake is the second of its size in central oklahoma since 2011. it's expected to bring new attention to the practice of disposing of waste waft deep underground. five stranded dolphins rescued in the keys this weekend. >> and the blame is on hurricane hermine for pushing them offcourse in the shallow water. these are pictures of crew

they had to be put down. they were able to bring the other two to sea world for treatment. so many effects. we had the turtles impacted, nests as well. it takes a toll with the beach erosion. they are dealing with that in new england. our beaches -- a lot of humidity, some low to mid-level clouds beginning to burn off. we'll get into blue skies this morning. although they are not going to stay quite that way as we the way. we have plenty of moisture left over from hermine. we'll tap into it this afternoon. drier air on the back side. it will limit rain chances but there's the visible satellite. now we get to see exactly what is going on. infrared through the overnight hours, the satellite doesn't quite pick up the very low clouds. they have high temperatures so we don't get to see them until this morning. there they are, at this point they are not the clouds that are going to rain on us.

going. on the back side of hermine we have dry air, getting actually pulled in. we'll tap into it tomorrow, will limit in fact i think almost shut off rain chances tomorrow and then we'll begin to increase that a little through the middle part of the week. there you see on futurecast showers and storms developing and then by tomorrow we're going to continue to see much lower rain chances, 10% to 20% by tomorrow afternoon. today still looking at pretty good showers and storms developing. by 2 doc, 3:00 we ben down to the south. by the time we get to tonight that northeast flow will begin to pull that dry air and we're done but at that point too late to really get dry air today here. so rain chances going down but beginning tomorrow. the rest of the tropics still not even at the peak, a couple of weeks from that but 30% chance of this very benign- looking wave though it's impacting the antilles with showers and storms moving towards the west.

the form of wind shear and hopefully that will keep it at bay but right now looks like a 30% chance of that developing. 83 water temperature. that's also changed. daytime highs now beginning to inch a little south. we're not going to really notice it for another month or so but east winds today going north this afternoon. with temperatures the next fewtase where they should be for this time of year, 90. overnight lows in the mid-70s. and there's that rain chance going from today at 50, tomorrow 10% to 20% and slowly but surely back which is still pretty average for this time of year. highs the rest of the week and into next weekend near 90. 9:46. still ahead -- one southwest flight attendant gave a very entertaining flight landing announcement.

chaotic scene in philadelphia over the weekend. police had to clear more than 1,000 people off that stage during a concert on set. it happened at the budweiser made in america festival. police say a performer encouraged the crowd to climb on the stage and things got out of hand. police cleared the crowd. no injuries or arrests. and bill clinton made a surprise appearance at the festiv festival yesterday to register people to vote. while there he took photos and chatted with festival goers. 70 artists performed on multiple stages during the two- day festival that began saturday. into speaking of the clintons, both hillary clinton and donald trump are using labor day to campaign for votes in ohio. today clinton will be in cleveland attending a labor day festival with union leaders and

and will speak about her plans to keep america safe. how to work with allies and why she thinks donald trump is not fit for the presidency. a black pastor who hosted donald trump in his church over the weekend now says he didn't invite the republican nominee to come there. trump went to the church in detroit as part of his outreach to minority voters. the pastor said in an interview he always sport democratic party. >> lets get it straight. did i not invite him -- i did not invite him. he asked to come to do a sitdown interview with me for the impact on the network which is the largest only african- american christian television network in our nation touching 150 million homes. that's why he came. that's the original reason he came. then says well while there i want to stay for the service. that's how it ended up being where it landed. >> trump spoke about fixing
