joining us on this wednesday. i'm deiah riley. >> i'm dan shaffer. let's start with a check of traffic and weather together. we begin with ivan in the weather center with florida's most accurate forecast. >> pretty nice day. good morning. yesterday i think will be a repeat and stay mostly dry. temperatures now in the mid and upper 70s. we're doing that with mostly clear to partly cloudy skies. looks pretty good in lakeland if you're watching from polk county, good morning, 73. 72 and look at brooksville 71, into the upper 60s up there. yesterday we had mid-60s. plenty of sun, afternoon showers today, 10% coverage and this is primarily for southern counties as we have a little more moisture to work with. but most of us staying with quiet conditions today as are the tropics. mid and upper 70s through 9:00 a.m. then we'll get back to the low and mid-80s. highs around 91. we should be around that temperature this time of year so nothing unusual except for the rain chances, pretty low. over the weekend we'll talk

door now, it's pretty early -- but if you are traffic pretty light. no major problems. i-275 and gandy in pinellas county up to speed. 70 the average speed from the sunshine skyway all the way down to the howard frankland. we have reports of a sinkhole, fhp is reporting a sinkhole in the crystal river area southbound u.s. 19 at snug harbor road. reports that southbound u.s. 19 is blocked. in easy way around this. looks like you could use hearing detour signs are posted. give yourself extra time to make that detour. as for the drive in the major roads in the area, not too bad, seeing a little bit of a slowdown southbound on the veterans expressway, 59 the average speed from van dyke to 275 but looking great on 275 southbound and i-75 southbound into i-4. 5:01. in st. petersburg, police are looking for a heartless robber accused of attacking this disabled war veteran and stealing his money.

near the walmart on 34th street. abc action news reporter lindsay logue there. are police any closer to making an arrest? >> reporter: good morning. two things police have in their favor -- witnesses who can describe the attacker and they also have this, surveillance video of that suspect driving a blue dodge durango away from the walmart parking lot. jeffrey hardeman is a u.s. army war vet, disabled and use as walker and sometimes a cane to get around. lunchtime a man walked up to him in the walmart pack parking lot, asked for the time, and out of nowhere put him in a chokehold, beat him with his walker and stole his money and a few other things. >> he grabbed me around the neck and started to choke me. punched me on the side and head. and he was grabbing for my -- stuff. >> reporter: hardeman and another witness saw the guy

ridesharing. >> uber has been quick to say this is the worst rules for ridesharing in the country. i would make the argument that it's the best rules for the transportation industry as a whole in the country. >> the ptc plans to meet next week at 9:00 a.m. if they pass new rules uber and lyft will have to comply. despite the oncoming fight uber is expected to rule out uber eats in tampa today. the "tampa bay times" says the service will be we checked the web site and there are dozens of restaurants on board. the delivery fee is about $5. using a stroller and child to steal. what hillsborough deputies say one man did at a music store on north dale mabry highway. they want to know if you recognize this guy. deputies say he entered the sam ash store last month with a woman and young girl in a stroller. they say he went to a room

he took a sound mixer worth $1,800, put it in the stroller and walked out of the store. if you recognize him call crime stoppers. st. pete police are reminding you now if you keep a gun in your car remember to lock your vehicle and take your guns inside at night. st. pete police say thieves took handguns during four separate car break-ins this week. most thefts happened overnight when the vehicles were parked outside homes. police don't believe the thieves were looking for guns when they several groups want to speak out against amendment 1 today. they say the measure will hurt efforts to add more solar panels in the state. critics say the measure is being pushed by big energy companies. they say the wording would end up allowing energy companies to monopolize the solar business and charge a fee for people with solar panels to connect to the grid. the coalition of people opposing amendment 1 is holding a news conference in just a few hours. a brave 12-year-old boy home alone takes action after spotting a burglar in his home.

called 911. broward county deputies say the boy was home alone while the parents were at work. he heard a knock and didn't answer it. a few minutes later heard someone in another room. deputies say when the boy confronted the burglar the man told him to stay in a bathroom. he did but while there called police. by the time police arrived the burglar was gone. >> it's not right to come into anybody's house and do what he did. >> luckily the boy wasn't hurt. the man did get away deputies hope tips will lead to an arrest in this case. you'll remember this video, a postal worker caught on camera throwing mail into a fort myers dumpster. she's pleaded not guilty to destroying that mail. authorities say angelica mormon douched more than 400 pieces of mail in the trash. security cameras outside the restaurant caught her in action. she could spend up to five years in prison if convicted. the u.s. senate blocked zekeoo funding for a third time

zika. democrats defeating the billion dollar package because of added provisions that blocked funding for planned parenthood. democrats are demanding republicans drop their fight to keep planned parenthood from getting any money. lawmakers are now hoping to add the zika funding to a must pass general spending bill. the last patient still hospitalized from the pulse nightclub massacre is now finally going home. it's been nearly three months since that mass shooting in orlando. 44 victims were taken to the hospital the morning of june 12th. nine died shortly after arriving. 49 people in night. 53 others were injured including several from tampa. dozens of companies now coming together to get veterans back to work. more than 40 businesses will be at the support our troops resource and career fair in tampa. this free event is from 11:00 to 2:00 this afternoon at the chairion hotel and conference center on east fowler avenue. active duty members and military spouses also invited. jobs range from i.t and

mylan says its contracts with new york schools do not include purchase requirements. i.t.t. tech is blaming its decision to close on the federal government. one local attorney says if they were operating a legitimate business the government's decision would wouldn't have been the end of the school. the u.s. department of education banned federal loans from being given to new itt students after repeated findings the school was not in compliance with standards. we were told 400 students and a dozen local employees are affected by the immediate closure. the tampa attorney has filed several lawsuits against several for profit colleges and says itt tech is to blame for its own problems. >> several times over the years we had people calling about improper practices at the school. admissionspractices. straight out lying to -- admission practices. straight out lying to students about jobs, graduation rates.

today. but we're thinking 10% as far as the rain chances here. 10% to 20% further to the south, because of the dry air on top of us. though yesterday we're much drier. you can see that eroding away a little but for the most part it will continue to limit our rain chances. in fact on a 24-hour rainfall map you have to really look close. a couple of showers and those were the streamers that came in east-to-west. that will be a repeat for later today. we're going to stay mostly dry the next few days. rain chances slowly increase, we're not to 20% to 50%, 60%, it's a process and that will result in higher rain chances tomorrow and friday and into the weekend i think we'll stop around 40% to 50% as far as afternoon thunderstorms. plenty of sun most of the day. for today it's going to be an all-day sunny day for a lot of us. again further south, manatee, sarasota, hardee, desoto and into highlands county as well a couple of showers rolling through. it will be fast movers so not

91 for the high today in tampa. 89 lakeland. a little warm. 91 and 92 in bradenton. you get that fast flow from the east. cooling off the water. water temperature still in the mid-80s. if you're planning a beach day. 20% to 30% rain chances friday and back up to 40% for the weekend with highs around 90 degrees. a lot of with hermine. that can set the stage sometimes for sinkholes which is what you're talking about this morning. at least up in citrus. this is the crystal river area, u.s. 19, southbound lanes blocked. we told but this first yesterday. southbound lanes are blocked, fhp reporting now that the southbound is sharing the northbound lanes, you can also use 6th avenue which goes around this closure but just be aware of this, no telling when this is going to be reopen. and we also have this closure

plant -- sarasota county, state road 72 closed for road repairs between myakka state park and seidel road. so this is right through myakka state park. a very rural area. no easy way around this. head south and take i-75 either direction. so just be aware of that. no word on when that road repairs are going to be compete. as for your drive now looking great, i-275 at i-4, no problems here at the junction. looking at just five minutes to get from howard frankland bridge. a family in louisiana is accusing a nursing home of neglecting an 84-year-old woman who can't move or speak. they say she was attacked by ants and we warn you, the picture you're about to see are disturbing. according to a police report family members were called at 2:00 saturday morning saying that the victim was headed to er, that's why. the family says when they got there she was covered in ant

good wednesday morning. it's 5:24 now. a dramatic water rescue on lake michigan over the holiday weekend. a woman jumped into rough waters to save a young boy caught in a rip current. that woman was walking on the beach when she noticed an 11- year-old and his father struggling in the water. she grabbed a life jacket and quickly dove in to save them. a boater nearby saw what was going on and also went over to help. toth dad safe until the coast guard arrived. luckily everybody got out of the water safely. this poor guy here -- right there. unlucky guy snapped by a google street view camera. >> looks like he's just standing on the street corner minding his own business but if you look closely looks like he may have had an accident. debut not the kind you may be thinking. joshua justice insists his pants were wet from spilling cleaner on himself.

good morning. and thank you for joining us on abc. i'm deiah riley. >> i'm dan shaffer. still a lot of clean-up to be done to hurricane hermine. update of weather in a second. >> the weather affecting traffic a little. we have a sinkhole in citrus county. >> crystal river? >> yes. u.s. 19, yeah. >> they got hit pretty hard with the rainfall. a lot of us did, but today another dry day. quiet conditions which of course this time of year may we usually have afternoon thunderstorms. a couple of showers today to the south but that is about it. temperatures now in the mid- 70s. bus stop forecast looks dry with temperatures in the mid- 70s. sunrise there coming up at 7:12. getting later there. 3:00, 89 degrees but the high around 91 for the temperatures this afternoon. generally in the mid to upper 70s across citrus county. crystal river 72, 71. and again the showers will be mainly well down to the south.
