a war veteran robbed in this very walmart parking lot and it could have happened to anyone. i'm lindsay logue live at 9:00 -- how police cracked this case details about a man who died after being left in the heat for hours outside a nursing home. what the nursing home is doing to stop this from ever happening again. >> stolen equipment stashed in a stroller. where this man is accused of using a child to help him do his dirty work and how you can help police put him behind bars. breaking news out of lakeland. deputy say a man arrested in a child porn bust is facing even more serious charges.

james bellone sexually abused two 2-year-old boys and photographed the abuse. he also showed adult porn to other kids. >> bellone was originally arrested in july on 65 counties of child porn. now facing 132 additional charges. chef grady judd is going to talk about the new charges a little later this morning. turning now to st. petersburg -- police are looking for a brazen thief accused of attacking a disabled war veteran and stealing his money. >> it happened in broad 34th street. abc action news anchor lindsay logue is live. are police any closer to making an arrest? >> reporter: good morning. police have at least two things in their favor today, witnesses who can id the suspect and surveillance video and photos of that suspect driving away in a blue dodge durango. jeffrey hardeman is a u.s. army war vet, disabled and uses a

get around. he says last week around lunchtime a man walked up to him in the walmart parking lot in st. pete and asked him for the time. then put him in a chokehold for no reason, punchedded him, beat him with his walker and stole his money and other things. >> he grabbed me around the neck and started choking me, punching me on the side, the head and was grabbing for my stuff. another witness saw the suspect take off in a blue dodge durango. that is the biggest clue police have in the case so far. the license plate may start with the letters gka. if you see that vehicle, again, a blue dodge durango you're urged to call police or call police if you know anything about what happened here in this walmart parking lot last week. live in st. petersburg, lindsay logue, abc action news. happening today -- we're

home that happened earlier this year. 65-year-old willburt mouton died after being left outside gracewood rehab and nursing care in pinellas park. he suffered second degree burns and dehydration but it was heart failure that ultimately killed him. investigators say the man who had mobility issues was outside for hours on a 90-degree day. officials are holding a news conference at 10:30, will reveal new information in the case and also announce proposed laws to make su happen again. we will monitor that news conference and bring you updates both on-air and on- line. 90 degrees in the sun more like 95 to 100 there. we keep going like this right through -- october. remember last december we were in the upper 80s the whole month? let's hope for cooler times ahead. for now upper 70s. we had the cool spot this morning and yesterday morning. not as cool this morning.

a little taste of early fall if you will. that is it. we're getting back to our hotter humidity levels, that means it will feel stickier and we're going to increase rain chances as well. the tropics remain quiet. we'll talk about something going on in the pacific. there's that east flow continuing to bring us showers i think for today. we'll be looking at just like yesterday manatee to sarasota. hardee, desoto and highland county so a couple of showers, otherwise looking pretty dry, upper 80s to around 90. in charge. that will erode away so by friday into the weekend we'll be back into our typical afternoon showers and thunderstorms but that is what we expect this time of year. let's wrap up hopefully the commute. most people won't have any trouble getting to where they are going to be. right now, however, we still have this closure on nebraska southbound lanes closed due to a pedestrian who was struck by a car getting off a city bus. so southbound nebraska still

your alternates florida avenue, seems to be ok, a little slow. probably still want to avoid 275. that is running very slow and has been all morning. there are reports of a crash south of busch on 275, i can't see it on the cameras but i am seeing cars slowing down here just past busch. typically this time of morning this traffic is already out of there but again we're still seeing slowdowns southbound on 275. 23 minutes from the apex to i- 4. 8 minutes just to get from busch into downtown. the good news, once you five-minute drive from downtown to the howard frankland bridge. 9:05. deputies in hillsborough county are putting the public on alert for a man using a stroller and child to steal equipment. musical equipment. they want to know if you recognize this man, deputies say he entered the sam ash store on north dale mabry in carolwood last month with a woman and young girl in a stroller. they say he went into a room where deejay equipment was on display, took a sound mixer,

left. that mixer is worth $1,800. if you recognize him call crime stoppers. an important warning if you keep a gun in your car. remember to lock your vehicle and take your gun inside at night. st. pete police say thieves took handguns during four separate car break-ins this week. most thefts happened overnight when vehicles were parked outside their homes. police don't believe the thieves were looking for guns when they broke into the cars. the u.s. senate will not be providing federal funding for research on the zika virus. billion bill to combat the virus. they opposed provision that's would have blocked funding for planned parenthood and would have allowed confederate flags to fly at military cemeteries. the vote failed 52-46, needed 60 votes to advance. lawmakers hoping to add the zika funding to a must pass general spending bill. the public transportation commission could vote next week to pass stricter regulations for ridesharing services and uber could withdraw in response to that.

background checks. a $7 minimum fare and 7-minute wait time. uber's competitor drive society which launches on the 18th is ok with the stronger regulations like fingerprinting. uber has called the new rules unacceptable. >> today's vote is just the latest example of the ptc trying to push ridesharing out of hillsborough county. they are focused on protecting the entrenched cab industry and this is just an attack >> uber has been quick to say that this is the worst rules for ridesharing in the country. i would make the argument that it's the best rules for the transportation industry as a whole in the country. >> the ttc meets next week. ptc. if it passes the rules uber and lyft have to comply. you can get your favorite eats today at the top of a button. uber eats is delivering meals. ivan placed our order,

on the air coming up at 9:30. several groups plan to speak out against amendment 1 today. they say a solar energy ballot measure will hurt efforts to add more solar panels in the state. critics say the measure is being pushed by big energy companies. they say wording would allow energy companies to monopolize the solar business and charge a fee for people with solar panels to connect to the grid. coalition of people opposing amendment 1 is holding a news conference later tod. animals severely aweud at a polk county animal sanctuary. the sheriff's office take custody of 178 animals. we talked about this last month when officers seized them from darlin's darlin's in polk city. the owners of the sanctuary were arrested and face charges for animal abuse.

9:13. we've got breaking news just in. the coast guaris cruise ship near the bahamas. in a tweet just minutes ago authorities say that 32-year- old woman fell off the carnival ecstasy cruise about 27 miles southwest of freeport. the woman was apparently on the 11th deck of the ship around 2:30 this morning when she went overboard. it's still not clear exactly what happened but we're working now, trying to get more information and bring you updates on our abc action news mobile app as soon as we get them. an update on a story we

man outside of a mcdonald's in las vegas for not holding open a door is now in police custody. police say 25-year-old alonzo perez was arrested last night. perez is accused of shooting and killing 31-year-old mohammed robinson outside of a mcdonald's after a friend of perez said robinson didn't hold the door open for her. police caught perez last week but he broke free from handcuffs friday and escaped from the police station. the family of robinson relieved and thankful to police but still have questions on how that suspect was able to escape custody. to a developing story -- police in ferguson, missouri are investigating after a vocal activist is found dead in a burned out car. police say they found the body of 29-year-old darren seals after responding to reports of that vehicle fire. once the fire was out they determined seals had also been shot. his death being investigated as a homicide. seals was well known for

brown, unarmed teen shot by ferguson police after going after an officer. right now a north carolina man is on the run after admitting to shooting his son and ex-wife on facebook live. that man is earl valentine. police say yesterday morning he kicked in the door of his ex- wife's home, shot and killed hits 15-year-old son and critically injured his ex-wife. after the shooting he went on facebook live to share what he had just done. what i did. she deserved what she had coming. >> mm. >> police say before value teen went on the run he bragged to police about the shootings on the phone. family of the victims say the mother just moved to town to escape the abuse from valentine. investigators say a domestic protection order was in place but sadly expired last month. a party expected to draw more than 1,000 amish teens was busted over the weekend in

saturday night after learning about the massive field party. authorities say they heard from concerned parents about the party. the amish are a traditionalist sect of christianity who reject modern technology and conveniences but many of the teens also reject that lifestyle. all of those arrested were charged with underaged consumptions of alcohol. some are also facing charges of resisting arrest. at least two people were hospitalized with alcohol- related illnesses. we have a warning for anybody thinking of buying a new home. most often overlook problems with the yard. consumer reporter john matarese shows us one home buyer's nightmare yard and what you need to know so you don't waste your money. >> reporter: imagine spending more than $300,000 for a brand new home only to discover your yard is a dumping ground for all the other new homes in your subdivision. it just happened to one woman and she has a warning for all

supposed to be gertha row sarao's dream home but she says it's a gardump. it's surrounded by mud, rocks, concrete, wood and plastic left by the builders. >> any rocks, wood, any debris they had they just left it here. they did not pick it up. >> reporter: she has photo after photo of construction as that she's found half buried. she says the builder just wants to spread it out and cover it up with grass. she says it was only when she had this fence installed a few weeks ago that the construction crews finally stopped using her yard as a cut-through, parking lot and dumping ground. >> they put equipment on here and used it as a parking lot. just left threat whenever they wanted to. >> reporter: it's a common plaint complaibt with new homes. gardenweb.com says many builders find it cheaper to

get a written assurance from the builder they will not dump construction debris in your yard, it can cause sinkholes in a few years. she has one message for her builder. >> come and clear the debris off my property. and i want them to assure me that no more damage will be done to my property. >> reporter: the home builder tells us they will attempt to clean up the yard and make it right but it's better to prevent your home from becoming a dumping ground in the fit so you don't waste your money. 9:18. imagine you get a bill for nearly $50,000 in unpaid highway tolls. it's real for a southern california woman. she's been driving on toll roads for years but not paying the fines. she said she had a credit card on file but officials say the one linked to her account changed. she admits it was an oversight on her part but says she never

with three kids and working full time and husband deployed. >> the toll company eventually garnished her wages. she was part of a lawsuit that reduced the fines. she moved and the garnishments stopped. they thought it was over. then moved back and it started again. she says the toll company has gotten $16,000 from her family so far. she says she's willing to pay the tolls that she owes but will not pay the extra fines. >> it pays to pay the tolls i guess - i'm with her. i about paying the fine. it was a beautiful day yesterday. >> not much rain. showers to the south. similar today. in fact this is how gorgeous it was. ed snapped this as the sun was setting there. we're going to have similar conditions today. if you're watching from

from east-to-west here. 79s in the 9:00 a.m. hour. mid-70 to the north where yesterday we had mid-60s. that dry air making it all the way down, got history humidity levels so it felt more comfortable. i think by later this afternoon we'll feel like we're back in summer. low 90s and feeling warmer with the humidity. there's the east flow. it's sectioned off. we have plenty of moisture to the south. not as much across central florida and then re corridor. in general the dry air still winning out limiting rain chances. at tampa and points north of i- 4 i think we'll be in fine shape as far as the dry weather. there you go, to the south. that's where we'll have the showers developing later on today. not a big deal but certainly not completely dry as we enter 3:00 and 6:00. temperatures in the lower 90s in afternoon. it will feel warmer with the

9:24. humpback whales are officially off u.s. federal authorities say the numbers have steadily grown since the global ban on commercial whaling nearly 50 years ago. whaling moratorium remains in effect despite the new classification. this week we also learned the giant panda is off the endangered species list but the eastern asian gorilla has been added to it. speaking of whales -- check this out. >> there's a paddleboarder taking a tip to swim with a curious orca. it was shot monday by a drone

the paddleboarder says he heard there were orcas in the area and just wanted to check it out for himself. >> a closer look -- you can see the orca following the man in the water. the man says he got a little nervous when he noticed that orca opened his mouth when swimming towards him. >> although it's friendly, orcas are dangerous whales as you know and it's illegal to swim within 100 meters of in new zealand. house this for an adventure? a little tamer. new zipline attraction a go in largo. >> city commissioners approved a tree adventure and zipline park at the highland recreation complex. the decision wasn't without controversy. nearly four dozen residents from the nearby neighborhood attended that meeting last night to voice opposition to the project. >> most are worried about increased noise, garbage left behind and parking overflowing on neighborhood streets. but even with a large turnout against the project

damage to homes and their stuff. like here, these dresser drawers, yeah, wood not good. and a couple computer systems. won't work very well either. so the county is going to do what they call a debris assessment. they are going to drive through parts of pasco county and see if they can help people dispose of this flood-damaged property. if they cannot the county says they will look into hiring someone who can. this all comes at no cost to the people who live here but talked to one-time resident who said that that's the way it should be. >> i think it's good. they should do that. as long as we get the stuff to the curb like the county asked, i'm prepared for probably 28 to 30 feet. if it gets that bad i'm out of here.

the river stage. anclote river did reach a major flood stage cresting above 25 feet this past weekend. so he was able to stay put. he's prepared. a lot of people are but you know what? like they tell me you can't help it. water gets in the home and that's what happens. you understand the river is going to stay at least at minor flood stage until tomorrow. at some point in the afternoon. reporting in pasco county, james tully, abc action news. help will be on hand today for people struggling with flooding in citrus county. emergency management holding a disaster relief information event for victims of the flooding there at the lecanto government complex on west sovereign avenue. find out what resources are available from 1:00 to 7:00 today. the event will run again same place tomorrow from 9:00 to 4:00. beloved pets who lost homes and families in the louisiana flooding are finding a new home in florida. thousands of pet owners were forced to abandon animals during the storm because many shelters don't allow them.

9:41. police in england say a man committed a horrific crime. the 63-year-old accused of punching a 5 day old baby girl in the face. witnesses say the hit was so hard they could hear it making contact. baby and her parents. they were at a supermarket when strangers started to come over to see what they said was a beautiful baby girl in that stroller. that is when that man walked over and punched the baby in the face. he thought the baby, he says was a doll. police arrested the man, he's facing assault charges. thankfully the baby girl is ok. she was treated and released from the hospital. a family in louisiana is accusing a nursing home of neglecting an 84-year-old woman who can't move or speak.

ants. we want to warn you before we show you pictures they are really disturbing. according to a police report family members were called at 2:00 saturday morning saying that the woman here was headed to the er. the lady's family says that when they got there she have covered in ant bites, more than 1,000 of them. they say the ants came in through the air conditioning event. sleaze now back in the -- she's now back in the nursing home and on benadryl around the clock. police and the department health are investigating. september 1st is the day one north dakota mother will never forget. >> she gave birth for the third straight year on that date. all three of lauren stevenson's children were born on september 1st, 2-year-old axle in 2014. 1-year-old tommy lee in 2015 and last thursday henry arrived. >> do they -- they know what causes this now -- she and her husband didn't plan it this way. in fact none of the due dates

we're still not going to have much on radar. we'll have a few showers that will stream in from east-to- west. this is about -- if you draw a line just east -- this is about the area. so south of hillsborough, if you're watching from us manatee, sarasota, hardee, desoto and highlands, sebring will get in on the showers first and then everything pushes to the west. a couple thunderstorms but the coverage here, talking 10 to 20%, there's a lot of dry air up above. that is limiting rain chances at least through today and then tomorr we'll get back into it. i think tomorrow 20% to 30% coverage. then eventually for the weekend we'll get into more. there you see the showers moving east to west. very interesting to see nothing ongoing to the north but we're getting into that time of year where patterns start changing. we go back and forth and we can get things like this to happen and we can get mid-60s through the morning hours. just like we did yesterday across the nature coast. tropics, atlanticbasein pretty

worry about. despite the fact that it will develop it will head north. so right now i think we're in pretty good shape. 91 for the high today. it will feel a little warmer than yesterday with the humidity being a little higher later today. of course it will be high enough for showers and storms to come back in the forecast beginning tomorrow and then heading into the weekend as well. not going to be raining through the weekend as far as anything unusual, just because of the last couple of dry days it will feel a little different, but it's typical for t with rain chances around 40% with highs approaching 90 degrees. this poor guy is on damage control now after google streetview camera snapped an embarrassing picture of him. >> it looks like he's standing in the corner in downtown houston, he had an accident, he did but not what you might be thinking.

also their families. so basically with a we do is we spend time learning about their journey, the things they've been through. we help them gain more strength through physical activity and we have a certain curriculum we follow. we work with their doctors and physicians and learn about what the different limitations are that they have depending where the cancer was and whether or not there was a surgery involved. and we go from from there. >> it's a national program. >> yes. it's national. >> at the local level you said you created the y wait? >> it's a weight loss. a lot of times for the majority of the folks coming into the y they are looking to lose a lit weight, feel better about themselves. it's an 8-week program, includes physical activity and nutritional counseling. they learn how to eat better, how to prep meals, read food labels. on top of that doing physical activity as a group and gaining confidence and strength and losing a little weight.
