in lakeland. officers blind sided by gunfire, a convicted felon shot. this morning, we expect an update from polk county sheriff judd after last night's shoot- out. >> ashley yore is live where all of this happened. ashley, that street is now back open to the public? >> reporter: that's right, rodney. now that it's light outside, you can see the scene here is clear. this is where no deputies were injured. you can tell that's really lucky when you take a look at this damage. you can see multiple bullet holes in the side of this dodge charger. last night, 32-year-old francis perry fired multiple times at the drug task force when they pulled him over for trafficking meth. there were officers from four different jurisdictions involved. deputies never knew what was

were coming at them. >> the windows were blacked out. we could not see into the vehicle at all. as the officers and deputies walked up to the car, he started shooting. when he started shooting, we started shooting. >> reporter: francis perry served a year and a half in prison for meth and assault with a deadly weapon. judd says they recovered a large amount of meth and gun from the car. we still don't know how perry we expect to get that update from the sheriff coming up in less than two hours. of course we're going to bring you updates both online and on air. i'm ashley york abc action news. let's check the weather and show you lots of sunshine at 79 in tampa clear water and st. pete.

away car as he tried to stop him but fell off. >> it's important to catch this person from the nature of his actions he very easily could have killed this poor victim. >> reporter: a silver camaro was the get away car. tampa police are looking for another burglar. they say this guy broke into a furniture store on manhattan avenue door after midnight yesterday and stole checks. he also tried to break into the summer house furniture store next door but couldn't get inside of that one. if you recognize this guy, you could get a cash reward from crimestoppers. they are offering $3,000 for tips leading to his arrest. what would you do if you saw this and called 911? it is a tractor-trailer crossing the yellow line several times into the breakdown lane nearly hitting

call police but says police never responded. now she wants to know why. the woman was following the big rig driver for more than an hour on florida highways and recording video with her cell phone. she called police several times to give updates on where the driver was on highway 85 to interstate 10. >> when you see something unsafe, you are supposed to call the police and let them know. they are supposed to come investigate. did i that. nobody came. isn't that what my tax are supposed to be for? >> reporter: the florida highway patrol says they don't have enough troopers to respond to all of the calls that they get. they are down about 20 troopers just in that region. we want to update you know in the search for a north carolina man who went on facebook live to announce he had no remorse for killing his 15-year-old son and critically injuring his ex-wife. deputies say he had been found dead at a motel in south carolina. deputies found earl valentine's body last night.

gunshot wounds photo his apparent torso. he logged on to facebook that morning to broadcast what appeared to be a confession. he said he loved his wife but she "deserved what she had coming." now to a developing story out of arizona where a woman is dead after she was shot driving on a highway. police say that woman called 911 saying three men were following her. while she was on the phone, gunshots were fired. >> while she was on the phone with 911, the dispatcher heard about three gunshots, and the call was ended. >> the victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. she did not survive. the shooting also caused a chain reaction involving four vehicles. three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

they shot the woman. a former secret service officer accused of trying to solicit sex from who he thought was a 14-year-old girl is facing more serious charges in the state of florida. robert lee moore is set to appear in court today in west palm beach. the girl turned out to be an undercover agent. they say he also had online sex chats with actual young girls. now they filed federal child porn charges against him right here in florida. a jury indicted him in june new this morning, a former pasco school resource officer is off the job because investigators say he was stalking his ex-girlfriend. pasco deputies arrested russell canarium yesterday. investigators were talking to his ex about her complaints when they say they saw him drive by her home in his work car. he later admitted to driving by her home and harassing her

and e-mails. he's worked for the sheriff's office since 1999 and stationed at the high school for the past two years. three k-9 officers are safer thanks to a generous donation. the money paid for a bulletproof and stab-proof vest for the k-9s. the funds came from a nonprofit called vested interest in k-9s incorporated. nobody but what was more important than being on time for class? we'll tell you what it was and why this is going viral. >> plus, the epi pen may be getting all of the headlines but many other prescription drugs were shooting up in price as well this year. which are costing people a pretty penny to fill up?

florida newborn twins hugging in a hospital went viral, the family is now grieving the loss of one of the baby boys. he was born with a rare medical condition. the newborn twins right there, mason and hawk captured countless hearts on social media. sadly, though, yesterday the parents announced on facebook that hawk died. hawk was diagnosed in the womb with a rare condition that impeded lung and organ development. he passed away with his parents at his twin brother mason was there as well. the family says they were so thankful knowing their baby boy brought so much joy around the world during his short time on earth. we turn now to a story that will lift your spirits this morning. a heart warming display of patriotism that's taking over the internet. >> a young boy decided it was more important to stop and say the pledge of allegiance rather than be on time for class.

a manager in australia says he was just trying to protect his employees from armed robbers. he got to the diamond store and saw the armed robbers inside. that's when hannah grabbed a chair and threw it at them. he says he doesn't know if he would do it again. watching the video has taken a toll on his family.

with me because they've got the foot often on the camera. she's terrified. one of the employees is too scared to go back to work. a police investigation after someone stole $3 million worth of property. the man boarded drake's tour bus while he performed tuesday night and stole a full of expensive jewelry. the suspect trayvon king was arrested the next day after he was caught trespassing on a nearby college campus. all of drake's stuff was recovered. he was performing at the time. king now faces trespassing and theft charges. ?

afternoon showers and thunderstorms. we'll talk more about the weekend forecast, the tropics as well when i see you in a few minutes. in pasco county, the repairs and cleanup from hurricane hermine are beginning in some neighborhoods more than 2500 homes and properties were impacted, of course, by last week's storms. the damage estimates from pasco county alone are a whopping $89 million. >> lindsay logue is port richie. lindsay, we're talking a week later and it's still a mess out there. >> reporter: dewhy rodney, good morning to you. check it out, they are one week later pumping floodwater out of the neighborhood here in pasco county. this water that crept into people's homes last week, and some say it would be cheaper to buy up the homes in the flood-prone areas and move people out instead of dealing with the impacts from flooding

outside of the water not to mention repairs to the waterlogged homes. areas like back lake along the river. of course they are some of the biggest trouble spotted when it comes to flooding. a solution could be that the county buys up those homes and moves people out. we're learned county leaders are already eyeing $4 million to purchase the property. another option would be to elevate the property. it would costs but it would involve major construction work. right now, is a far from a done deal. some have said no matter how bad it gets, they refuse to sell their homes to the government. i'm lindsay logue, abc action news. tensions are running high in the fight against zika. people are protesting approaches to kill mosquitoes. more than 100 people rallied

found about two other complaints at the center where kids were left alone, including a small infant. investigators are going over the wreckage of a deadly helicopter crash in fort pierce this morning. three crew members died when the chopper went down. the older model military style helicopter crashed tuesday on palm bay. one piece of equipment had recently been repaired. the chopper was on a test flight. no one reported seeing any kind of problems. investigators do crash. the chopper burst into flames after crashing. palm beach police say a suspected drunk boater ran his 72 foot yaht aground and walked away. when officers caught up with thomas baker, he admitted to having a few too many long island united statessed teas -- iced teas. baker will be taking a time out. he's been arrested under boating under the influence. the u.s. coast guard has

overboard from a carnival cruise ship. she is still missing this morning. crews are still looking for her at this hour. here's one of the helicopters scanning the water near the bahamas. the carnival spokesperson says witnesses saw the woman jump overboard but still others claim that she fell from the 11th deck. the ship is now on its way back to charleston, south carolina. the fbi has arrested a woman who they say set blankets on fire flight. investigators say either lisa gomez boarded a jetblue flight from jfk in new york headed to puerto rico. she used a lighter to ignite two blankets and a seat next to hers. gomez was later arrested and placed in fbi custody. if convicted, she faces up to 25 years in prison. the tampa crossroads

welcome back. i am lost for words. a truly bizarre story out of oklahoma today where a mother and daughter, these two are accused of getting married to each other. >> i don't know if bizarre is the word you use for it. the women you see here got married in march. now we're learning that this is not the first time that this woman has married one of her biological children. >> reporter: dressed ali daughter are booked into the stevens county jail. >> wait, wait. they married each other? >> yeah. >> huh. >> reporter: a police investigation revealed they are mother and daughter, blood relatives who somehow married.

was to get away from his wife. interesting. lawrence ripple walked into a bank on friday and handed a tell air note. he said he had a gun and demanded cash. the teller turned more than $2,000. ripple took the money, walked out to the lobby and simply sat down and told the guard he was the robber. according to court documents, ripple told investigators he and his wife had been fighting earlier that day. he wrote the robbery note in front of her and tolhe home. unfortunately, a judge let him out on bond. lifeguards in hawaii say a woman shouldn't have been in the water where she was bitten by a shark. a 50-year-old woman was bitten on the shoulder and arm. a nearby surfer used a paddle board to get her to safety. witnesses say she is a regular and swims in all sorts of weather by herself.
