good morning and thank you for joining us on abc. >> we'll start with weather and traffic. janelle and ivan. starting out nice but some rain later on. >> i haven't heard from janelle -- so it's always a good thing. >> a secret. >> we'll find out. >> it's nice when it's quiet. >> i was out there this weekend. it's hot. had to get shade. 95 saturday. 95 on sunday. both days in the weekend were record upper 70s to low 80s now. going to be in much better shape as far as the temperatures today and next few days. the problem is the temperatures are going down for a good reason, that is cloud cover and showers and storms that are going to come back at us here. they will come quick and hard. tropical moisture, we're talking through the middle part of the week. it's going to continue and that will keep our temperatures in the upper 80s. quiet on titan doppler radar. everything looking good right now. the morning commute in fact. but showers already along 95,

county as well. that is just a sign to come for us. through the early part of the day we'll be fine. by 11:00, 12:00, even a few scattered showers and storms and then getting more concentrated as we head through 2:00. then by 9:00 you can see it developing too. and then everything pushes and ends up along the coast. by then we'll have frequent lightning, even heavy rainfall. we'll watch for that. that is going to be the pattern the next few days. then we'll slowly begin to dry out but that won't happen until latter more on that coming up in a few minutes. so far so good. big crash on the courtney campbell causeway overnight is cleared. courtney campbell is open. 275 looking great through downtown tampa. we have construction in the overnight hours this week on 275 but no complete roadblock, just a lane taken away here or there. your drive on the howard frankland up to speed in both

>> thank you. the man is accused of accidentally killing his cousin while the two were horsing around. police say 23-year-old joaquin mendez was trying on a bulletproof vest saturday night according to a witness mendez wondered if it worked. that is when alejandro garibaldi says let's see. he pulled out a gun and shot mendez killing him. police arrived and garibaldi initially said he found his cousin shot outside of the on gordon street. when witnesses came forward and detectives arrested garibaldi on manslaughter charges. mendez' family says they are too heartbroken to speak with the media but thanked people for all their support. garibaldi should be in court later this morning. ceo elon musk said new software would have prevented a

four month ago, an autopilot didn't identify a tractor- trailer and slammed into it. traditional cameras may not work well in some lighting conditions so they will be using radar instead. the owner of this yacht could have used auto pilot. the boat will be towed out of the waters off palm beach today. thomas henry baker admitted to authorities he had too many long island iced teas before running aground last week. he was charged with boating under the influence for the second time in weeks. there are more than 600 cases in florida now of zika. the money to fight the disease could be drying up in a few weeks. congress could vote again on additional funding. partisan wrangling derailed previous funding bills and despite an aggressive effort to contain mosquitos with zika in miami that disease has been

chinese and russians are holding war games in the south china sea. it's a sign of growing cooperation between the two countries. the joint sea 2016 maneuvers include surface ships, submarines and other aircraft. the russian defense military didn't say exactly where the drills would be held in the south china sea. home to heated territorial disputes between china and its southeast asian neighbors. russia has been the only major country to behalf. in its demand that the u.s. and other countries stay out of such arguments. a teen who jumped into a pond to save a 71-year-old man will be honored later today. that 17-year-old was in a car with his mom heading to a family dinner in palm harbor when he heard a splash just a few weeks ago. when they saw that car in the pond he told his mom to stop, jumped out and dove into the water, and swam over to the driver and helped him out of

>> what? >> lisa lobery was walking the steps of the art museum on labor day, the ones made famous by the movie "rocky." when all of a sudden something hit her in the head. her friend saw it and said it was a catfish. she says she ended up with several cuts that will leave scars and she admits to freaking out. >> a few seconds i was slammed in the face with something. i think it might have been head, face and neck because i smelled so bad afterwards. >> oh. >> i think of all things to happen -- it was a -- traumatic at the time but it's funny and there are so many worse things and so many bad things happen. >> the next question where did it come from? it turns out a few friends spotted a bird flying away after the fish fell so probably just a bit upset that it lost its lunch. >> she got lunch hopefully. a nice catfish.

>> the catfishnado going to be on twitter now? we'll have plenty of tropical moisture. no catfish but plenty of raindrops. we're going to make up for last week's relatively dry period with temperatures around 90 today. not the 95s of both weekend days. that because of additional cloud cover coming in. in fact it's streaming in. this is an area of disturbed weather across the bahamas, 10% chance of development. we've been watching it but really not going to get organized. it's the moisture associated with it that that will be enough for showers and storms to develop into the afternoon, into the evening and rain chances pretty high the next few days. i think we're going to be doing just fine, wet season coming back at us as we talked about last week, not quite done yet. rain chances continuing high. by the end of the week we'll shift a little so we'll be lower and back to more typical, above average next few days. 2:00, 3:00 showers and thunderstorms firing across our central counties and then inding up at the coast with the

that will favor that. when you see that setup there, not much going on, that's an indication of a bit of a collision with the sea breeze and storms as they continue to move and propagate towards the west. that can favor sometimes frequent lightning, heavy rain and also the potential for even isolated strong wind gusts. we'll watch that closely. the radar, we'll be tracking plenty unlike the last few days later this afternoon. for the morning you're good, dry, bus stop morning commute will be fine. dry, a few clouds, then we'll begin to bring us eventually the rain chances. 60 through 70 through the afternoons and evens. that continues tore pretty much a good chunk of the week. wet week coming up and then back to more typical rain chances, 40% by next weekend. we are checking out the roads. just about 15 minutes after

frankland last time, we have a crash in the southbound lanes, on the shoulder so not affecting traffic too much. still less than 10 minutes to get across the howard frankland in both directions. drive on i-75, this is just south of fowler, traffic still pretty light. let's check drive times on 57 heading south -- -- 75. dramatic confrontation between a ref and college football player. the player is facing felony battery charges, his dad says it's an accident. >> the ref just got punched in the face by a player. >> what? >> wow. >> you can see here bernard

chain reaction straight ahead. a fire at the pulse where the pulse nightclub shooter attended and worshiped possibly set on pur. >> but first we start with -- set on purpose? >> but first weather and traffic with janelle. >> we have flashing lights on the howard frankland. we'll look at that. weather is going to be fine. though like this afternoon the radar, we'll be lit up, like the last couple of days, last ek inch in spots but we're going to get that in short order and then some as some tropical moisture is going to be involved in our forecast the next few days. upper 70s to around 80 now with clear skies. 77 in plant city. 77s in polk county, 78 port richey and 80 in st. pete. we're looking warm and humid this afternoon. those temperatures, warmer with the humidity. look at the rain already moving in. that is a southeast flow that will favor showers and storms.

after 1:00, 2:00 and we'll continue to see locally heavy downpours here with frequent lightning and some isolated strong wind gusts. we'll watch that and that pattern by the way sticks around the next few days. so that is something to look forward to if you do not like the 295s we hit saturday and sunday. very hot this weekend and dry. we see more flashing lights that have been added to the crash. this is southbound on the howard frankland bridge so if you're heading from tampa into pinellas you're going to pass the flashing lights. it initially came in and-run and then ambulances on scene, could be injuries involved with this. not really slowing things down. just slow down and move over when you pass that crash. a couple of other crashes to tell you about, in pasco, lewis avenue at u.s. 19 some reports of a roadblock on lewis so be aware of that. also pinellas, a crash reported at 124th street, at 75th, 74th avenue so again if your morning commute takes you through that
