mostly cloudy, a lot of clouds today. and the rain is on the way. tropical moisture on top of us will help us out with that. temperatures now mid and upper 70s. we already have rainfall that is moving in across eastern part of the state. well defined tropical wave. that moisture associated with it will get us with afternoon storms and also the wave itself will be generating some pretty good rainfall to our north and east. so our central and northern counties will be getting in on that as well. that is going to be an issue for today as some of the downpours could yield upwards of 1 to 2 inches. like yesterday, similar pattern. further south less rainfall and not as hot with temperatures in the upper 80s. by the time we get into the morning already some showers. this is a very messy pattern, very tropical air on top of us. that will set the stage for pretty rainy day an and off with downpours as well. for the evening commute is when this happens, for the morning pretty good shape.

man's car. jakeeverette said he and his girlfriend were driving along u.s. 41 saturday night on the way to walmart in land o' lakes and says the driver of a dark suv brake checked him and followed him into the parking lot. he fired a single shot, one pellet lodged into everett's arm. detectives say it's a rising trend in the area. detectives are expected to release surveillance pictures later today and crime is offering a $3,000 reward for tips leading to any information or arrest. we got new clues about the suspect vehicle overnight. we'll share those and victim's account coming up in a live report at 6:30. investigators are looking into a fire at a popular south tampa restaurant now. firefighters were called to bella's italian cafe on south howard avenue 11:00 last night. evacuated the building, they were able to put the fire out in about 30 minutes and luckily no one was hurt.

another fire damaged the same restaurant last year. bella's had to shut down in april last year. staff had to spend easter sunday cleaning up. that time investigators say it was a grease fire that damaged the pizza oven. it's believed a mosquito relent -- weple length left burning destroyed a home. firefighters rushed to bring in water tairchgers because there were no they couldn't save the home where the fire started. the fire marshal is investigating and the red cross is helping two adults and two children who live there. a man accused of severely beating and biting a baby is set to go on trial later today. glen neal was arrested in july of 2015. they say he attacked an 11- month-old so badly the boy suffered brain bleeding and had to go on life support. investigators say the 31-year- old kicked and punched that child while taking care of him.

murder, they have not revealed the man's relationship with the baby. this just in -- deputies say this woman trashed a wendy's restaurant in pinellas county because she was unhappy with her order. they say kiante gibson went through the drivethrough in seminole saturday but went inside to argue with the manager. and splashed pink lemonade in his face, pushed things off the counter and damaged a display. now charged with simple battery, disorderly conduct criminal mischief. happening today -- governor rick scott will be in washington, dc to fight for more federal funding to fight zika. there are more than 60 cases of locally transmitted zika virus in the state of florida, two in the tampa bay area. it's unclear how much funding governor scott will ask for to help fight zika. we have a reporter heading to washington, dc so count on an update when it happens. newly released 911 calls give us an idea of how frantic

lost phone ends up escaping a man threatening to rape her. indian shores police arrested peter hilliker for attempted sexual assault and false imprisonment. investigators say the victim came back to the restaurant to find her phone, that is when police say hillike, an employee locked the doors, ripped off her clothes and saying he would rape her. she kicked him in the groin and ran away. prosecutors dismissed a domestic battery charge against carlos alvarez. the alleged victim, the ex- girlfriend didn't show up for trial. she she faces charges of breaking into his condo. the miami herald reports he pinned her against a wall and spit at her in april over an argument over a cat. the pier district plans are being shown off this week. and they are looking for public input. there will be three open houses. first at roberts recreation center tonight at 6:00 p.m. another tomorrow at the jw kate

welcome back. new video showing a career criminal jumping out of a police van and running, while still in handcuffs. >> in milwaukee police say it's a 17-year-old who has a knack for escaping police custody. now raymond barfield is on the run once again. police say he committed a carjacking last year and led police on a chase in december. at the time he told police he cut off his monitoring bracelet and that is barfield was on the run after not showing up for a court date last month. police caught up with him again on sunday. they arrested him but it didn't take long for him to slip away once again. high speed chase eventually ended in california after the driver got out of his car and tried to run but tripped and fell. >> this all started when police tried to pull over a mustang in downtown los angeles. the driver took off nearly hitting several other cars. at one point the driver

passenger out, then takes off once again. he finally abandons that car in a park, ran into a yard, then slipped and fell on his rear end and finally gave up. that's roughly 175,000 dollars worth of heroin stuffed in a dumpster in pittsburgh. a worker reportedly called police after making that discovery monday while taking out the trash. investigators say that stash of drugs included as many as bricks of heroin and they believe it was a dropoff point. for dealers. we've all had had embarrassing times where you pocket dial a friend? or even a stranger. >> one man did dial a stranger and it led to his arrest. a dispatcher said he overheard two men talking about drugs, one apparently called 911 by accident. officers in kentucky traced the phone using the signal to carry out a drug bust near a gas station. they arrested the men saying

other had a gun and that person was a felon. coming up on 6:17 on this tuesday. most days we don't show much on titan doppler radar but this morning we have plenty. at least along the east coast. this of course will impact our weather big time as we head through later today. for now we're quiet. not much, just a couple of sprinkles that have fallen apart that broke off of this well defined area of low pressure. it's continuing to push to the north an west. we have abundant tropical moisture to work with. look at the dry air to the north and west, that was on top of us last week, so we didn't rain much. now a different story. we're going to start the clock. there's the rain. so far this morning across east so by 8:00 we're already beginning to push this north and west. the bulk of the moisture going along with the low. it's a little stronger and so that is why it's getting the

north. so things are a little bit changeable as far as what we're thinking, as far as the coverage whereas i was thinking yesterday more moisture, just tropical downpours, generally for all of us. i think now it's really going to be concentrated north and east. not to say we won't rain. i still think we have with the heating of the day and tropical moisture chance of pretty good downpours later on so 1 to 2 inch rainfall rates possible and accumulations of that nature as well. but most of the activity or heavie o could be looking at 4 to 6 inches of rain from the eastern side of the peninsula closer to the low. as far as the temperatures, because of the cloud cover we'll be in the mid and upper 80s this afternoon. you will need the rain gear so certainly keep it in mind throughout the entire day, at any given point looking for potential of downpours. so it's not going to be the completely sunny first part of the day and then afternoon storms. it's a little different. we'll watch for that as we look at temperatures the next few days. staying in the upper 80s. rain chances still high.

breakdowns on i-4. checking drive times on the toll roads starting with the veterans expressway -- still looking good on the veterans expressway. just a tad slow on the selmon expressway. 7 minutes to get from i-75 to downtown. let's talk about the crash in lutz, westbound county line road at u.s. 41. seeing a little bit of a delay here northbound. captain al is flying over this crash what are you seeing? >> reporter: this accident is throughout this huge intersection. that is u.s. 41 right to left or left-to-right. right to left is actually northbound. that is how it happened. you can see the emergency vehicles in the turn lane and one middle lane there. there's another vehicle on the other side of the county line road with fhp sitting there with him. it doesn't appear to be that serious however there's a deputy leaving now, or two.

howard frankland, northbound just before you get to the hump so coming from pinellas into hillsborough county you can see it's off to the side. let's check our drive times across the bridges to see if it's causing any visual delays. not too bad. 7 minutes to get across the howard frankland, typically it's only six minutes. nine minutes across the courtney campbell causeway and seven minutes to cross the gandy bridge. captain al, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. you saw that accident it broke up just as we got there. so we moved to the east a little. i-75 in the picture there, state road 56, in the lower left, can't see it but that stretch of i-75 from 56 to 54 is very busy as it comes southbound. once it gets to the apex, going to 75 or 275 and much lighter

weatherwise, smooth too. not raining. it's not an issue but by later today the tropical downpours on the way once again as we actually have a tropical wave. pretty well defined one at that over melbourne. and some banding coming in with showers and storms early this morning. gusty winds for them. for us again more rainfall and that tropical moisture with the heating of the day. should be enough to crank out about 60% chance of showers and storms. that remains with us through tomorrow although beginning thursday, then we'll begin to diminish rain chances back to where we should be. not as concentrated as the showers and thunderstorms that continue. you can see the spin as the storms get going. and continue through the middle part of the day. not so much with lightning here across central -- our central counties but notice what's happening. begin to see when you get something this well defines moisture tends to pool closer to its center. so i think the heaviest of the
