spilled over into another part of the house. >> he backed me down from basically like one side of the house all the way to the other. and like i said, i wasn't trying to escalate the situation. >> reporter: detectives say they were in the kitchen when donald grabbed a knife. they're looking into what happened next because they're told that donald stepped forward and he pulled out his gun. >> he went for the knife and came at me and i shot him twice in the chest. and he >> reporter: authorities found donald dead on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound. he defends trying to save donald's girlfriend. >> she was like oh my gosh why did you have to shoot him. i said are you insane? did you not just see what happened? deputies continue to investigating and will turn this case over to the state attorney. the shooter has not been charged pending the results of the investigation. reporting from brandon, marisela burgos, abc action

possession charges. neighbors in this community worried another attack could happen because they don't have street lights. abc action news reporter ryan smith is taking action, bringing their concerns to community leaders who are looking into possible changes. ryan. >> reporter: jamison, this victim told me yesterday she feared for her life. you can see why. there are no street lights to be leaving dozens of students walking out in the dark every morning on their way to the bus stop. >> he covered my mouth and he told me to shut up or he would choke me. >> reporter: the victim crediting a passerby for scaring off her attacker. that witness was jose. >> he looked like something like i caught him doing something and he turned and ran full speed. >> reporter: he is thankful he was in the right place at the

a $1,000 diamond pendant necklace from the jc penneys at the mall last month. they believe he is responsible for similar thefts in pinellas county. if you know who this guy is, call the st. pete police department. new video showing the second car fire in florida being blamed on a note 7. the man was charging his phone when he heard a loud pop and the phone blew up and fire on the passenger seat. he managed to get out unharmed. firefighters have not confirmed that the fire started the -- that e thone started the fire. there is no word on when the new phone will be available here in the u.s. to replace the note 7. there is no official recall either. a software update designed to keep the battery to charge above 60% will be available next week in south korea.

they have been raining for the last 60 minutes there. ramping up from zephyrhills to crystaspngs. this all continues to move off eastf o-5 . they will be moving into polk county soon. this is where most of the lightning strikes pop. you see the flashes with the detection system. outside of that, these are continuing to move out of the way. by 9:30, 10:00, we're rain free for the time being with more rain that begins to move in from the gulf. that is going to continue on through the overnight thing in the morning. mid to upper 80s across the entire area right now. maybe a few low 80s where the rains have been falling. that's a tropical picture right there. isn't it? that is really residual from julia. it extends all the way down across the state and into the gulf and prompts or coaxes this moisture across our area. we're going to see the same thing tomorrow. and even again on friday. but by the weekend, i think things improve, drier air and

your plans right now. you notice by 10:00, things are pretty much done. then all of a sudden we see more rain develop overnight. just like overnight last night where folks in spring hill we had a report of two inches of rain at a two-hour stretch. you can see heavy rains in a few spots. overall coverage only 20 to 30%. i think tomorrow, while it won't be raining the entire day, at almost any point in time you could see a stray shower. you notice not as had today. and that trend continues on friday as what is left of julia moves away and fizzles out. then we're into more of the traditional late day early morning showers like we typically see until we get a strong cold front which you know is several weeks away. overall rainfall totals, heaviest off to the east. and off to the north. that's through friday. i think things will be much better saturday and sunday. forecast highs, about where where she be. upper 80s to low 90s.

year-old ohio boy who was pictured in police photos with two people overdosing on heroin. >> it was a sad picture. this picture going viral last friday. the grandmother and father were slumped over from a drug overdose. a judge granted custody to the great uncle and great aunt in south carolina. by the way the grandmother only had custody of that little boy for six weeks before police took this picture. still ahead, the nfl honors jamison winston impressive week one performance against atlanta. john sabol says why this is a rare accomplishment.

the week honors after the first week of the season. number 3 joins barber and brooks as the only ones to earn the honor after week one. this is more rare to have a buccaneer name attached to the title because the last bucs player to earn any player of the week honors was bobby rainy in 2013. it is pretty remarkable. like his ability too learn and get better. it's a night and day difference when you compare his skill set to this time last season. >> just growing. it's just -- it's different out there. i'm more comfortable in offense. but, you know, i have so much -- so many more ars of improvement. so when you talk about stride, i'm still striving to one day be the best. >> the rays 2016 season has been disappointing but opening day is just seven months away.
