about 215 million gallons of contaminated water used to process fertilizer has drained into the hole. a recovery well is pulling that contamination out of the aquifer and into the plant. that process could take months to complete. the sinkhole was discovered on august 27th in a containment pond. >> one of our field technicians whose job is to monitor water levels in the pond, when they identified a water level drop. >> the company will be using a network of monitoring wells surrounding the plant to test how far the contaminated water has traveled. so far, it appears to pose no threat to surrounding communities. >> just last year, mosaic settled a lawsuit. the epa claimed they were improperly storing and
