company's containment ponds. 250 million gallons used to process fertilizer has drained into that hole which connects to the aquifer. the company is pumping contaminated water out of the aquifer and back into the plan, a process that could take months to complete. so far, the bad water pose nose threat to the surrounding communities. we found several past epa enforcement actions. just last year, they agreed to pay nearly $2 a federal lawsuit. that covered 60 billion pounds of hazardous waste. the company agreed ato clean up six sites. the epa claimed mosaic was improperly storing chemicals. the epa called it a major victory for clean water. you can read more on our web site, abcactionnews.com. a fight between two homeless men in st. pete beach ends with one of them dead.

when they got into a violent fight. witnesses say wilson repeatedly hit darling on the face. when deputies got there, darling was on the ground and pronounced dead at the scene. the navy says pilot error killed a blue angels flier. the marine captain was practicing in june when he crashed. a new report says his jet was flying too fast and too low when he transitioned from a climb into another maneuver, he tumbled from the report says fatigue and weather contributed but say he did not black out. new information on the ex- convict arrested for setting fire to a mosque. the suspect is admitting to the crime. according to an arrest affidavit, 32-year-old joseph shriver told officials he was embarrassed and never intended to hurt anyone. it was the same one the pulse nightclub shooter attended. shriver is being held without bail.

vehicle. police officers say he pulled out that cleaver as they approached him. several officers chased him, hit him with a taser, and an offduty detective tackled him. the cleaver sliced the detective estates. officers opened fire hitting the suspect twice. he is now in the hospital in critical but stable condition. discussion tushing details about a new mexicop in girl found disturbing details about the murder of a 10-year-old girl in new mexico. her mother arranged the rape of the girl. there may be more victims. a bystander found himself in the middle of a rescue. jason was driving down the road near wilmington when a deputy flagged him down. he asked if he had bolt cutters in his work truck. he said no but he did have a saw. the deputy asked him to bring it into the woods.

hour. really, it's the afternoon heating of the day and we'll continue with rain chances at about 40%. that will be the case as we head through the weekend as well. pretty similar setup here. julia is still impacted with the carolinas, although not as significant. we have ian well up into the north atlantic. then the next feature we're going to watch is our tropical depression, which is tropical storm karl, that will be making westward progress over several days, in fact by next tuesday it's still out there. by then, the category one hurricane has plenty of time to watch that as we've been talking about and looks to be curving to the north. so excellent news there. as far as temperatures this afternoon, lower 90s factoring in the humidity. it will feel more like 100 to 105. the humidity is as high as it gets. so now the typical average is 89, 90.

welcome back. they say the fathers were flying in a house raid on long island. police found 350 pigeons flying freely inside of a house in north merrick. a man in his 70s also lived in there. he was taken to the hospital in a full protective suit used for hazardous materials. the pigeons were allowed to roam around as they pleased doing what birds do.

gushing underground. rodney dunningan, this discovery was made weeks ago? >> reporter: deiah, in fact, the company found out about this issue the last week of august and this hole, as you guys mentioned, is massive. it is about 45 feet wide. they aren't sure how deep it is because they actually can't see to the bottom of this thing. this video is incredible. let's take a look at this. the aerial view gives you a great perspective of how massive this hole is. it containment pound. about 215 million gallons of contaminated water used to process fertilizer was actually drained into that hole. the problem was discovered by a routine inspection. >> one of our field technicians whose job is to monitor water levels in the ponds, when they were making their rounds, they
