and this morning. feels like temperatures in the upper 80s. 81 tampa. mostly clear skies, calm winds, setting the stage for a very steamy morning. 82 in st. pete. the rest of us in the mid to upper 70s. when you factor in the tropical humidity still feels like 90 degrees along the coast. it will set the stage for a hot and humid afternoon but also thunderstorms. we'll get them starting 11:00, 12:00, then everything pushing east on a westerly flow so to 4:00 is our window for showers and storms with plenty of sunshine through the morning. we're checking your live drive here. driving around the roads trying to figure out if there are any problems out there. so far so good on this monday morning. we have this one little incident that we are watching on i-75 northbound just before you get to i-4. we have what used to be a vehicle fire. now a semi truck off to the side, not really causing any

on i-75 just before you get to i-4. let's check the average speeds now. still looking good on the interstates this morning. all in the green. breaking this mornin york city area. nearby elizabeth, new jersey, authorities discovered five explosive devices overnight in a backpack near a train station. abc action news anchor james tully joining us in the studio. one of the devices was detonated. >> that's right. but unlike the large blast that happened the other night, saturday night in new york city that injured 29 people on the west side of manhattan no one was hurt when this latest device went off. it happened as a police drone was inspecting the backpack it was in.

>> that was just after midnight. as a precaution new jersey transit just tweeted that they are suspending train services on the busy northeast corridor and north jersey coastline. no arrests have been made after the latest discovery of explosive devices and while there's no indication it's connected to saturday's blast in manhattan the fbi has five people in custody questioning them about it. no one this morning the mayor of elizabeth, new jersey is discussing the latest explosion as tensions clearly running high in the area. >> the robots that were going in to disarm it cut a wire and it exploded. i don't know the technological aspect of that. i know there are other devices, i don't know what they are made up of. >> at this time none of the incidents were linked to terrorism but the fbi is continuing to investigate. back to you.

stabbing at a minnesota mall. isis-linked news agency says the attacker who stabbed nine people is a soldier of the islamic state. authorities haven't identified the man who was killed by an off-duty police officer but the star tribune of minneapolis says his father identified him as tahil adon. ahmed adon said his son was born in somalia and listened in the u.s. 15 years. at least one attacker mentied >> said nothing, just walked straight towards me. i just got back from like basic training from georgia. i looked at the guy and i'm like ok -- i fist fought this guy and didn't know he had a knife. >> fbi is looking into claims about isis about its ties to the attack but currently there's no evidence they were involved in the planning. presidential candidates spoke briefly about the attacks. >> i think it's important to

killing all 66 people on board. a top syrian diplomat claims there's a link between the u.s. government and isis. it comes after u.s. military airstrike appears to have hit syrian government forces. members of isis attacked the same area later. the u.s. called it a mistake. the american ambassador to the u.n. also said the syrian diplomats' claims are ridiculous. we should learn more this morning about what appears to be the horrible accidental shooting death of a child in south tampa. tampa police were called out to the clipper bay ap around 4:30 sunday afternoon. for a report of a child shot. when they got there they found a 17-month-old shot and killed, investigators -- neighbors rather, several told investigators that this was a little girl and they have been hearing that the child may have gotten hold of a gun and shot herself. right now tampa police are releasing no details about how the shooting happened or the names of anyone involved. now to an amber alert in

>> authorities say they were forcefully kidnapped by their mother who took the kids from their legal guardian. we'll show you a picture now of 38-year-old stacey williams, 29- year-old ryan williams may be traveling with her. they are both known drug users. officials say stacey took her kids, 1-year-old mason and 3- year-old ryland after attacking they're legal guardian who lives in lecanto. officials say she may be taking them to west virginia. could be possibly driving a 2004 ford pe our abc action news facebook page so you can go there and spread the word. breaking news from sarasota -- police say someone in a car shot a man who was smoking outside his house, that bullet hit joseph roberts in the chest. he went to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. detectives say they are working to get a better description of the suspect. we're launching our eighth annual taking action against domestic violence awareness campaign today. we're all wearing purple, the

we've got a heads up for parents now. there's a new warning you may want to ask your child's pediatrician about when you take your child in for a cough. american academy of pediatrics recommend pediatricians stop prescribing codeine for kids to relieve coughs. the academy says there's growing evidence it causes deadly breathing reactions. recent studies show it's still commonly prescribed despite the risks and lack of evidence that it works to bolts could change the way meteorologists define lightning. the organization announcing the world's longest lightning bolt stretched nearly 200 miles in oklahoma back in 2007. the longest continuous lightning flash wagon was 7.74 seconds spotted in france in 2012. lightning is currently defined as a series of electrical processes taking place within just one second.

for with the tropics on top of us. tropical storm karl, and then 80% probability of this tropical feature, wave off africa but it's karl we're playing close attention to. it's a mess now. very ragged storm, wind shear, dry air but we think it's going to get its act together and the models are in decent agreement that by the time we get into the end of the week we talked about this last week -- we're looking at a hurricane. in fact the latest forecast has it as a cat 2 bermuda friday night. we'll watch it closely. and keep checking back with us. this afternoon our temperatures upper 80s to around 90 but it will feel like about 100 plus with that humidity. you can already feel it outside. rain coverage staying about the same through the week here. 40%. dry air may try owork in but right now holding at 40, pretty average for this time of year. let's check on the monday morning commute with janelle. we are starting off across the bridges.

not talking everybody's going to get rain but it's better than we have been. in fact right now we're mostly clear and calm. winds coming from the west and that will push some showers as they continue to develop through the mid-morning hour. we're going to be dry this morning and by the afternoon we'll get into thunderstorms which will cool us off and we need that because look at the current feels-like. this is afternoon, right? 88 and 89. current. feels-like temperature in the upper steamer out there. by the afternoon with this moisture here we'll have plenty of showers and storms to get going. notice the orange hue, would that be nice if it got pulled in here? it's not a cold front, it's not going to cool us off or dry us out as far as humidity but we could tap into that a little bittened that will lower our rain chances which again would keep us hotter through the middle part of the week.
