it is a tropical air mass on top of us. with the northwesterly flow we have showers. they are not the meanest- looking but an indication of what i think will be a little more widespread as we head through the later morning hours. then everything pushes to the east as it happened yesterday with showers and storms developing. coverage about 30%. with temperatures this afternoon once again going from the 70s, still low 80s on the coast. we'll get back to 90 and we had feels-like temperatures yesterday ll i think we'll do that again today. it's so tropical out there. you can certainly do that even when temperatures are right at 90 you'll go into the triple digits. so that's what we have today. changes in the extended forecast. we'll talk about the tropics as well, a newly formed tropical depression, coming up. let's check with janelle and see how the roads are shaping up. we're getting word of a crash in pinellas on u.s. 19 and 54th. we're getting more details.

great here through downtown, just five minutes from here to the howard frankland bridge. checking the average speeds, so far so good, still early out there, not a lot of cars on the road. we're still in the green on the veterans expressway heading southbound, a lot of the construction has wrapped up. so roads are clearing out now. 275 southbound looking great. i-75 looking great as well. i-4 also looking good from lakeland all the way into downtown tampa. that drive is going to take you about 22 minutes. 15 minutes from county line ad twitter @tampabaytraffic for the latest on the crash we're hearing about in pinellas. it's 5:32. more than $1 billion in federal funds to fight the zika virus still have more hurdles to clear before anyone sees any of the money. congressional leaders worked late into the night monday but a vote was once again postponed. abc action news anchor james tully is live now in tarpon springs where a public discussion on zika prevention is set for today. a lot of people there want to

kit. a house guest ends up dead. police say officer john tripp heard a house party, neighbors say they heard a man screaming and found the man unconscious. police are not saying right now how that man died. a toddler shot to death with a relative's gun taking place. 17-month-old amaya shaffy died sunday. the shooting happened in the family's apartment on south lois avenue not far from macdill air force base. the parentto hospital with a single gunshot wound. officers are still trying to figure out the circumstances of the shooting. to the latest on the new york bomb attack. the prime suspect, ahmad rahami mad is still in the hospital after being wounded in a shootout with police. he's charged with attempted murder for shooting two officers, held on $5.2 million bail. he's suspected of setting off bombs that exploded saturday on a new jersey boardwalk and manhattan neighborhood injuring

of dry air to our north and west. little disturbance may pull that down a little. that will lower rain chances through the middle part of the week, for now i think we're still with the tropical air mass and still going to be looking at the showers and thunderstorms. the kind of air mass you step outside and it's sunny and all of a sudden the showers really pop up here. very quickly. and tropical in nature as far as how much rain could fall in a short amount of time. we'll go with that. coverage though despite the air mass only about 30% to 40% for today. so keep it in mind. not all of us getting wet. it will be of the scattered variety through the remainder of today. notice how the storms continue to head south and east. they don't steer themselves, they depend on upper level winds and that's what we have going here. we have karl, tropical storm eventually going becoming a hurricane and threatening bermuda. and lisa, another specter off

this is the time of year, we're past peak but can still get storms in the deep tropics, in the eastern atlantic. there's the track if you're interested in karl, a cat 2 hurricane approaching bermuda by friday night with 105 mile- per-hour winds. that is something for them to deal with. 90 degrees for us through the afternoon. it will feel like 100 degrees with the tropical air mass here and we'll keep it into the upper 80s to around 90. fall begins by the way 10:21 eastern on thursday. then for us rain chances 40% with afternoon storms and heat and humidity. >> i like the art there. the pumpkins -- >> fall leaves. >> and sand. >> we do get change in color even here. with the maples, they change a little. >> one or two leaves here and there. >> you have to look closely, yeah. maybe use a filter on your phone. we have a stalled car i should say, stalled abandoned

89, our typical high but because of all the humidity it will feel closer to 100 this afternoon. you remember the viral story of the boy who was caught on camera sneaking into his neighbor's garage to steal hugs from their dog? you remember this video. we have a happy update to the the story. that boy was hugging his neighbor's dog because his own dog had passed away. after a lot of pressure from the public and a lot of begging we assume and pleading from the boy himself his mom is finally giving in. the boy has a puppy of his own to to a story of a hard working grandfather in chicago. >> the age of 89 he returns to life as a street vendor to support his family. salonso sanchez' daughter sadly died a few weeks fifty two, he and his wife found themselves with two grandsons to support so he returned to work selling fruit popsicles. a picture of him pushing a heavy vendors cart went viral and the gofundme page was set

humidity a little lower this morning. not as oppressive but that will change this afternoon, with 84, close to 90 degrees. that will feel like about 100 with afternoon thunderstorms, coverage today 30% as everything moves west-to-east. i think that's the orientation. we're watching the roads. so far so good, we had a crash in pinellas backups. the incident we talked about at 275 and northbound exit to bearss, stalled van, has already cleared so we're looking great on i-275. right at bearss, up to speed in both directions from the apex all the way down to i-4. this is what it looks like on i-4 at 301 traffic still pretty light, we are not seeing any delays from lakeland all the way into downtown tampa. that drive is taking just about 20 minutes or so. your drive on the veterans
