idea. not only is neighbors, the peop to the north and southof a plant that has so major trust issue with this corporation, with mosaic. put yourself in their shoes. how are they supposed to trust a company that wasn't exactly up front to begin with. today mosaic tried to correct that problem. two executives started an apology tour today. they tol screwed up and in hindsight this woe have notified the public immediately. now they are offering free water tests to neighbors and providing bottled water. here is the senior vice president of phosphates on the issues of trust. >> why should people believe you guys if you kept it a secret for two to three weeks? >> look, i think that kind of comes back to the question of explaining why we didn't do a notification.

build credibility with what i'm focus on. >> you can understand why people have trust issues. >> i totally understand that. >> reporter: so we have heard a mixed bag of reactions today from people who live near the mosaic property. they have been concerned of millions of gallons of radioactive water pouring into the aquifer. some accept the apology. others do not. bottom line, they want their water st so the only thing we can do is go from there and hope for the best. >> reporter: all right. that man, james branch, he lives a couple miles where we're standing, north of the plant. there is another community, more neighbors on the south side of the plant. he's a handful of people who are not offering the accept from mosaic, to test the water for free. instead he's going to pay for it himself.

right, but this way he knows for sure the results are accurate. live in mulberry, ryan raiche, the now tampa bay. >> thank you, ryan. just in here, new details emerging today about a sergeant and a deputy in hernando county on paid leave after shooting a man to death. now we're hearing that they actually tried using a bean bag shotgun at first, a nonlethal weapon. we brought this story to you last week on thursday on the now tampa bay. at the time we didn't know what insi now we do. we're told that the sergeant shot her bean bag shotgun at joseph two times, trying to take him into custody. but that didn't work. that's when the man pointed his gun at them. so they fired their real guns. the man died at the hospital. the sheriff's office today says that they were there in the first place because a health care professional told them someone in the home may be suicidal and had a bunch of weapons. all right. take a look at what channel side could look like in the

and clear and dry across pin class hillsborough county. into lakeland, a few showers across i-4. also to the north in hernando county, in which prosecutor brook -- from brooksville, we're seeing more widespread thunderstorms and heavier downpours. when you look at the big picture across tampa bay, we really don't have much rain. the rain pressed inland before noon today. i know that's not common for our summertime pat starts to the day. but the showers and storms are tapering off a little earlier in the afternoon than what we typically see as well. so if your kids have after- school activities outside, the storms are mainly to the north of tampa, around citrus county and to the east. and these will be tapering off over the next couple of hours. by 8:00, isolated shower or storm well inland is all we're looking at at that point. warm and muggy.

dinner and you're around heinz avenue, you are nice and dry at the moment. south tampa as we're looking across one of the bays there, you can see that we are nice and dry. things are looking good with a mix of sun and clouds across the area. we have hit and miss rain around citrus and hernando counties and polk county. not a ton of rain though. you may find a heavy downpours or a thunderstorm over the next couple of hours. the flow has been going from #o northwest to the all of this is pushing to the south of us. but there is more rain off to the north because we have a stalled out front. now, this is not a front that will push through the state and give us a nice refreshing batch of cooler or drier air. we're not getting that this time around. what it will do is linger here, increasing the rain chances a little farther to the north. but really in our area, we're not going to see very high rain chances over the next couple of days. similar to what we have seen today.

making it to highs right around 89 degrees. the record set back in 1991, 94. so with this lack of rain through the afternoon -- or at least less rain, our temperatures will remain right near if not a little bit above average. so 90 degrees tomorrow is the high. a mix of sun and clouds. and mainly afternoon showers and storms. it's not to say that we wouldn't see anything before noon. but we are looking at more of an afternoon storm trend for tomorrow. i'll show you more on that coming up in and my next update, it's going to be an karl and lisa. yeah. did you know we have another tropical storm out there in the atlantic? i will show you where they're both heading coming up. the common mistake you could be making at the gas station right now that could be costing you a lot of money.

>> got more breaking details today about the man suspected of planting bombs in new york and new jersey. the suspect's own father apparently thought he was a terrorist years ago. >> that is a major revelation. the now's todd walker joining us live in new jersey today, outside of the family home of ahmad khan rahami. and his dad says that he knew his son was a terrorist. did he tell anyone? paul. he actually did.

where did that go. it always seems to happen with these types of incidents. as new information comes out after the fact that shows that the suspect in question may have shown signs of trouble early on. that seems to have happened here. even his own family was worried about him. more questions being raised about the suspected new york and new jersey bomber as he is formally charged with attempted murder for his shootout are police and the investigation into his past >> just because you make an arrest, that's not where the investigation stops. a lot of time that's where it starts. >> reporter: his own father reported him to the fbi back in 2014, suspecting then he was a terrorist. now speaking with msnbc, he was less than forth coming. >> did you know that your son was doing this? >> no. >> you had no idea. >> no. >> and when you hear now that he's been accused of this, do you believe it? do you believe it?

on. >> reporter: the family is known in the community for their fried chicken restaurant in elizabeth, new jersey. they live in the apartment above it. his father left this morning. police still have it blocked over but not combing through it as intensely today. there are reports that his wife left the city just days before the bombing. he helped his wife obtain his visa in 2014, which is a common practice for him there. were no red flags raised at the time. >> it's like a regular here. this is a district made up of immigrants. >> reporter: so you're looking live once again at the family- owned restaurant and the apartment above it. investigators went in to do one more sweep through there. also inside and ahmad khan rahami's father. he says that the fbi checked out his claims back in 2014, that he thought his son was a terrorist and indications then, the fbi could not find any.

crutcher's family is asking that officer shelby be charged. the district attorney says it will take a little bit of time to determine if charges are necessary. in the meantime, officer shelby is on paid administrative leave. >> and police first responded to the scene because of a 911 call that there was an abandoned car blocking the road there and a man was running away, saying it was going to blow up. but crutcher's family says the car was broken down and he was waiting for help to arrive. you kn be wearing them these days. do these fitness trackers actually make us fit. a new study says no. researchers tracked people who were dieting and exercising for two years. half had trackers. half did not. the results, both groups had the same level of activity. the group with trackers lost less weight. researchers theorize that they make you think that you can eat more if they show you have been taking a lot of steps.

projecting the highest chance for rain are in the northern counties. we have seen that happen. take a look how it tapers off and moves off to the east coast of florida over the next couple of hours. we will see isolated showers and maybe an isolated storm over the next few hours. not a ton after sunset. by midnight, we're nice and dry. tomorrow morning is the question, will you see rain before noon? take a look at 8:00. the futurecast is showing we wo by noon we're still looking pretty dry. that we will be dry all the way through to noon. but i think the chances are a bit lower tomorrow than what we saw today. we will still have a similar flow of the north to south or northwest to southeast flow as the showers and storms start bubbling up throughout the afternoon. you can see how isolated they are. not a ton of coverage for tomorrow afternoon. temperatures right now have

move out. we have more sunshine. we're up to 91 in tampa. 91 in brandon. 79 in zephyrhills and brooksville where more rain has moved through that is keeping temperatures a bit more comfortable. all right. over the next several days, our highs will be close to average. maybe a little above in the places that see less rain throughout the day. but, again, with 30% coverage, we're really not looking at a ton of rain over the next several days. by saturday, the rain chances go up. it's on around 40% coverage, mainly in the afternoon. wondering what is going on the rest of the weekend? well, denis phillips has that sunday forecast for you on action news at 5:00 in the 7- day forecast. paul. >> thank you, shay. it is the tweet that is creating a social media backlash today. donald trump junior comparing the refugee crisis to a bowl of skittles. let's end the politically correct agenda that does not put america first. asking if i had a bowl of
