not doing a very good job of holding together but this is where we will have our best chance of rain in the first half of the day. along the coast to the i-75 corridor. after that we'll start to see more showers and storms spreading inland through the afternoon and into the early evening before they begin to taper off shortly after sunset. so it's the west-to-east pattern we're so familiar with. not a lot of surprises or any surprises today with the forecast. temperatures already topping near 90 and plenty of heat and humidity to go with the sunshine. how is it looking now? on the roads? it's certainly been an up and down morning. >> usually at this time of morning we're clear. however, if you're heading out the door and heading to i-4 out of tampa you're going to be stuck in this traffic. it looks worse than it is. we have a crash blocking the on- ramp from park road on to i-4. it's causing some delays but

bad. we're still in the green. >> so again not too bad. the slowest spot seems to be in the i-4 heading into tampa. 9:06. following breaking news from new york. at least six people are injured after a house apparently exploded in the bronx. this is an aerial view of the scene. you can see there's nothing left of that home. torn apart by the blast. officials say this started about firefighter and four new york police officers were taken to the hospital responding to this. there was a report of a gas leak which brought out the firefighters. we'll bring you updates on air as we get them in. the latest on the toxic sinkhole in polk county. governor rick scott will get a few view of the plant in mulberry. families awaiting results of

drinking water. >> james tully is live in mulberry this morning. the test results are expected very soon. >> reporter: mosaic originally told residents they would be ready at the latest by yesterday. now they've pushed that date back to mid-week which we should probably assume is tomorrow. we just watched a helicopter fly a couple of times in sight of the sinkhole. we believe the governor just finished his flyover. the latest numbers from mosaic on the numbers of water tests they've done. they tests requests. they've taken 149 samples saying their third party company is now prioritizing those samples based on the closeness to the sinkhole at the plant. mosaic still offering free bottled water to people nearby until they get confirmation their water is not impacted. residents thought they would know by yesterday, and now

>> there's a mixed emotion. are they trying to hide something? is something really wrong and they are scared to tell us? >> reporter: meanwhile there's a third party company, a california company, that is offering a free test for homeowners. my dx has an aqua sensor and they already sent some to homeowners but they like mosaic's company also waiting on test results. james 90:8 -- detectives in tarpon springs looking for a man they believe may have inappropriately touched a child and tried to take a picture of the 6-year-old. it happened at the tj maxx off u.s. 19 last weekend. parents in the area on guard. >> it's scary you can't let your kids shop with you. >> police received tips that

identified the suspect yet. this is a picture of the suspect. the man they are looking for. leaving the store, you can help spread the word by sharing his picture. it's posted on our abc action news facebook page. in pasco county, a 21-year- old man accused of selling cocaine within feet of james marlowe elementary school. shane bibey has a history of run-ins with the law and recently charged with aggravated stalking after sending several threatening text messages to a woman and walking past her job times in a week. one person is recovering in stable condition after a house fire in spring hill. flames broke out in the back bedroom of this house on little farms drive. everyone inside got out safely but one person suffered smoke inhalation, taken to the hospital. firefighters found a dog inside the house and gave it oxygen with a pet oxygen mask. the dog expected to be ok. cause of the fire now under

cars be too good? one woman wonders that after getting locked in her car for two hours. the 2012 bmw was her dream car. >> i got in the car. >> reporter: a nightmare malfunction locked her inside for two hours. she said she got in. >> pushed this button. >> reporter: the car wouldn't start and doors and windows wouldn't open. >> this door handle was pulling but it was not working. i sweated and everything. only thing was going through my mind, >> reporter: she called bmw assistance asking them to open it remotely. she says bmw kept trying to send a signal to open her car but says since she was inside the locked garage apparently the signal wouldn't go through. >> they was trying to send signals to unlock it and there was no success. >> reporter: she called 911 which sent police. the sergeant says he had never

>> we tried everything. we decided to break the windows at that point. >> police smashed a rear window, got her out safely. the bmw dealer believes a rare battery malfunction is to blame but this is becoming an issue with several luxury car brands. this news article shows a thief locked inside a bmw he was trying to steal. this mom says her three kids got locked inside her bmw this way and a corvette owner called 911 after he was trapped in his vet. racina says she'll never get in her again. >> i could have suffocated in the car. >> bmw of north america will only say it continues to investigate the case but promised to reimburse her for all repairs. her message to others, always have your cell phone on you so you can call for help and you don't waste your money. i'm john matarese, abc action news. 9:18. powerful cat 4 typhoon maggie slammed taiwan this morning with winds of 135 miles per hour gusting up to 160.

make landfall in the island nation in the past two weeks. schools, businesses, airports all closed across taiwan as that storm approached. the concern now deadly mudslides and flash flooding. maggie could dump as much as 20 inches of rain on taiwan before it heads to sea. makes landfall on eastern china tomorrow. let's check with shay. monitoring a tropical disturbance from the atlantic. >> it's -- at this point we're not completely in the clear because of the general direction that let me show you a little more. at this point we don't have a number or named storm but it's likely to happen any time between now and the next couple of days as this system continues to churn here just to the east of the lesser antilles. as you look at the spaghetti models you can see that it is going to be moving across the lesser antilles in the next couple of days and then we're hoping that it's going to start to make a turn to the north. if this happens where it turns north around the time it gets

republic and haiti then it will stay off into the atlantic and stay away from the mainland u.s. but if it continues on more of a westerly track and stays south of cuba, then it could get a little questionable about whether or not it's going to start to hook north a little later and effect us or head into the gulf. that's where we want to continue to keep a close eye on it until sunday, when we'll start to see when whether or not it will make that turn to the north. somewhere between friday and sunday i think pretty good idea of what is going to happen with the storm. between now and then keep a close eye on it. we're mostly dry, rain approaching but most of the area is the dry side. best chance of rain in the first half of the day so before noon, along the coastline so the i-75 corridor. after noon we'll start to see more showers and storms bubbling up, all across tampa bay and heading inland. futurecast agrees with my forecast. you can see how it comes

75 corridor at noon. and on top of tampa bay. then continues to become hit or miss as it moves inland through 4:00. after 4:00 we may even see some of this pulling back across our coastline, bottom line it's going to be rather hit or miss across the area with about 30% coverage. it's not going to be the wettest day but still have a chance for those hit or miss showers and storms at times today. tomorrow that west wind continues so we'll have a chance around 9:00 in the morning for the showers to begin setting coastline again. on average this time of year we should be starting the day around 73 degrees, ending around 88. we have not been anywhere near the averages lately. we've started our days in the mid to upper 70s and ending in the low 90s. we're still going to stay on the hot side the next couple of days but we've got a cool front coming through thursday. look what happens as a result. temperatures are at or even a little below average as we get into the weekend. starting saturday morning off

citrus county animal lovers demanding changes be made to the county's animal shelter. >> they claim perfectly healthy cats and dogs are being euthanized. one dog was recently featured a pet of the week. citrus county commissioners are set to discussion how euthanasia is discussed at the shelt they are afternoon. animal advocates will be protesting at the courthouse before speaking at the county commission meeting. a mississippi girl said she would rather for her 9th birthday. >> that's what payton burrows did for her local animal shelter. she asked for pet food, toys and leashes to donate to the local animal shelter and raised more than $100. she says she wants to help animals because they help us. >> they help people, like if someone's blind they can help them go the right way. or, they can protect you from danger. >> payton says she felt so good

releasing tax returns. a >> we teamed up with politifact to fact-check comments made by both candidates. hillary on donald trump's refusal to release taxes. >> or maybe he doesn't want the american people, all of you watching tonight to know that he's paid nothing in federal taxes because the only years that anybody's ever seen were a couple of years when he had to turn them over to state authorities when he was trying to get a they showed he didn't pay any federal income tax. >> politifact says the statement contains an element of truth but ignores critical facts rating it mostly false. that's because trump did not pay federal income taxes in 1978 and 1979 but the same records include information from three other years in the 1970s when trump did pay federal income taxes. donald trump wasted no time defending his refusal to release his tax returns saying

do. as you showed that picture of the guy who was caught on surveillance camera as he walked out of the front door of this store i spoke with a number of parents in the area this morning and as you can imagine they are scared to hear about this. >> there are - >> parents who frequent this shopping center along u.s. 19 in tarpon springs concerned for good reason. >> it's scary that you can't let your kids come shopping with you. >> reporter: investigato caught on surveillance camera at the tj maxx may have gone into the restroom here and touched a child. not only that investigators think he tried to take a picture as well. the kid only 6 years old. >> i don't think i would let him out of my sight anymore at that age. it's scary these days. >> reporter: police say the incident happened this past saturday. take another look at the picture. investigators want to bring him in for questioning. they are hopeful someone out there watching now will provide

in. in the meantime police say it's another reminder for parents if they are out with their children, especially in public make sure they keep a close tab on them. rodney dunigan, abc action news. happening today -- a fund for the victims of the pulse nightclub shooting massacre is set to pay out about $29 million. last week a law firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of an employee who was injured during that massacre. the su injunction to stop the money from being paid out until an audit could be done. the judge denied part of that injunction. the board for the one orlando fund says payments should be finished by friday. last june a gunman opened fire in pulse nightclub killing 49 people, injuring dozens more. it's now the worst mass shooting in u.s. history. hillary clinton's running mate tim kaine made a pilgrimage of sorts to the pulse nightclub.

she and senator tim kaine paid respects to the 49 people lost in the shooting. he was governor during the virginia tech mass shooting. the decision to visit pulse was something the senator said he asked to do. >> it was a weird thing to say -- >> the senator finishing three days of campaigning in florida today. he visits a neighborhood -- he is now with a neighborhood in south orlando. a pinellas county man now facing charges after crashing his car into a marina in south pasadena over the weekend. initially deputies found this jeep submerged, no one inside, rear window broken. after investigating they found 21-year-old david hughes who admitted to texting while driving, crashing, then walking home. he's charged with texting while driving and leaving the scene

special tribute to jose fernandez who died during a boating accident last weekend. the team wearing his jerseys, gathered around the mound to honor their late pitcher. a scene that looked like a hollywood movie honoring the one-time tampa area baseball player. gordon, a lefty worked as a righty in honor of jose fernandez. then switched to his left side and belted emotions took over. take a look. >> after the game players left their hats on the mound as a tribute to fernandez. a graduate of alonso high school in tampa. he and two friend died sunday after crashing their boat into a jetty near miami beach. that 24-year-old leaves behind

moment police take down the man accused of going on a shooting rampage in houston. we brought you this as breaking news this time yesterday morning. police now believe a suspect was an attorney who lived near where the shooting took place. abc's station in houston spoke to relatives of the man who owns the car police have surrounded in this video. they say he was having financial troubles and had been behaving erratically. police haven't released his name but say he was shot and killed by police. nine people were hurt in the shooting. story out of indiana where two children were found dead just hours after an amber alert was issued for them. now their mother is under arrest accused of killing them. police issued the alert for 7- year-old lilliana hernandez and 6-year-old renee pastor around noon yesterday. it's believed they were abducted by their mother. later that evening the mom reportedly drove to a police station, flagged down an officer and said her two kids were dead in the back seat of her car. she faces two counts of murder.

the amber alert was issued. they are still searching for him this morning. new information we've learned the two men arrested for the murder of a california couple were friends of the victim's teenaged daughter who was reported missing after the murders. jennifer jost and her husband christopher were found dead sunday in hair home with a family friend. friends of the daughter, 17- year-old caitlyn said she became friends with the two suspects with the furry community. furies are people who enjoy frank felix and john acosta arrested in the murders. a 17-year-old girl also arrested but so far her identity hasn't been released. new data from the fbi shows violent crime is rising across the country after years of declines. a trend in murder rates spiking nearly 11% higher in 2015 than the previous year. violent crime overall is up almost 4%. the fbi says these numbers are actually down though over five and 10-year periods.

there is still work to do. samsung is trying to put a positive spin on the negative news about the galaxy note 7, the company says about 90% of the people affected by the recall are sticking with the phone, that is a new version of this phone that isn't prone to catching fire. the company had to issue a massive recall of the galaxy note 7 after defective battery caused some of them to catch fire. according to samsung more than 60% of users in the u.s. and south korea have been able get a replacement. earlier we reported one in five would switch to apple. i guess they decided not to. good for samsung. good for us? >> we're definitely sitting pretty weatherwise. the clearwater hyatt beach camera looking at blue skies and sunshine. really it's gorgeous. if you're at the beaches the

rain is closer to the coastline. it's in anclote key and moving into the holiday area north of tarpon springs but not a ton of rain. they are isolated batches of rain that are developing in the gulf and we have a west-to-east flow so that is why our best chance of rain is closer to the coast early in the day but we'll see more widespread showers and storms through the afternoon. just like we usually do. 81 now in tampa. 82 new port richey. 72 bartow. 73 lakeland. we'll watch the temperature pop up in a bit. to clearwater beach, 88 degrees is a high. the water temperature is also at 88. we have that morning rain chance but as just saw in the radar it's dry there now. we don't have anything that is immediately headed into the area. there's also a slight chance of afternoon showers and storms but this is far from a washout. we'll get a lot of good dry hours at the beaches today. thursday we have that front that is approaching but it fizzles out just to the south of us on friday.

so that means we're going to have slightly lower temperatures in the morning starting on friday, and we'll have less afternoon shower and storm coverage, also going to be less humid. so still pretty good front. that is our friend. normally -- today getting close to 90 degrees. lots of humidity. another hot and steamy day. same for wednesday and thursday. do think we'll have a decent. a shower and thunderstor afternoons but friday like i said we start to see lower temperatures in the morning, even in the afternoon with a high of 86. i third it will feel more comfortable with the lower humidity. this weekend is just looking fabulous. look at that. 86 degrees and -- on saturday and 87 on sunday. i already flipped past it now and -- there you go. now you can see it again, 30% coverage of afternoon showers and storms saturday and sunday. so really looking like a
