make landfall in the island nation in the past two weeks. schools, businesses, airports all closed across taiwan as that storm approached. the concern now deadly mudslides and flash flooding. maggie could dump as much as 20 inches of rain on taiwan before it heads to sea. makes landfall on eastern china tomorrow. let's check with shay. monitoring a tropical disturbance from the atlantic. >> it's -- at this point we're not completely in the clear because of the general direction that let me show you a little more. at this point we don't have a number or named storm but it's likely to happen any time between now and the next couple of days as this system continues to churn here just to the east of the lesser antilles. as you look at the spaghetti models you can see that it is going to be moving across the lesser antilles in the next couple of days and then we're hoping that it's going to start to make a turn to the north. if this happens where it turns north around the time it gets

republic and haiti then it will stay off into the atlantic and stay away from the mainland u.s. but if it continues on more of a westerly track and stays south of cuba, then it could get a little questionable about whether or not it's going to start to hook north a little later and effect us or head into the gulf. that's where we want to continue to keep a close eye on it until sunday, when we'll start to see when whether or not it will make that turn to the north. somewhere between friday and sunday i think pretty good idea of what is going to happen with the storm. between now and then keep a close eye on it. we're mostly dry, rain approaching but most of the area is the dry side. best chance of rain in the first half of the day so before noon, along the coastline so the i-75 corridor. after noon we'll start to see more showers and storms bubbling up, all across tampa bay and heading inland. futurecast agrees with my forecast. you can see how it comes

75 corridor at noon. and on top of tampa bay. then continues to become hit or miss as it moves inland through 4:00. after 4:00 we may even see some of this pulling back across our coastline, bottom line it's going to be rather hit or miss across the area with about 30% coverage. it's not going to be the wettest day but still have a chance for those hit or miss showers and storms at times today. tomorrow that west wind continues so we'll have a chance around 9:00 in the morning for the showers to begin setting coastline again. on average this time of year we should be starting the day around 73 degrees, ending around 88. we have not been anywhere near the averages lately. we've started our days in the mid to upper 70s and ending in the low 90s. we're still going to stay on the hot side the next couple of days but we've got a cool front coming through thursday. look what happens as a result. temperatures are at or even a little below average as we get into the weekend. starting saturday morning off

in. in the meantime police say it's another reminder for parents if they are out with their children, especially in public make sure they keep a close tab on them. rodney dunigan, abc action news. happening today -- a fund for the victims of the pulse nightclub shooting massacre is set to pay out about $29 million. last week a law firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of an employee who was injured during that massacre. the su injunction to stop the money from being paid out until an audit could be done. the judge denied part of that injunction. the board for the one orlando fund says payments should be finished by friday. last june a gunman opened fire in pulse nightclub killing 49 people, injuring dozens more. it's now the worst mass shooting in u.s. history. hillary clinton's running mate tim kaine made a pilgrimage of sorts to the pulse nightclub.

she and senator tim kaine paid respects to the 49 people lost in the shooting. he was governor during the virginia tech mass shooting. the decision to visit pulse was something the senator said he asked to do. >> it was a weird thing to say -- >> the senator finishing three days of campaigning in florida today. he visits a neighborhood -- he is now with a neighborhood in south orlando. a pinellas county man now facing charges after crashing his car into a marina in south pasadena over the weekend. initially deputies found this jeep submerged, no one inside, rear window broken. after investigating they found 21-year-old david hughes who admitted to texting while driving, crashing, then walking home. he's charged with texting while driving and leaving the scene

special tribute to jose fernandez who died during a boating accident last weekend. the team wearing his jerseys, gathered around the mound to honor their late pitcher. a scene that looked like a hollywood movie honoring the one-time tampa area baseball player. gordon, a lefty worked as a righty in honor of jose fernandez. then switched to his left side and belted emotions took over. take a look. >> after the game players left their hats on the mound as a tribute to fernandez. a graduate of alonso high school in tampa. he and two friend died sunday after crashing their boat into a jetty near miami beach. that 24-year-old leaves behind

moment police take down the man accused of going on a shooting rampage in houston. we brought you this as breaking news this time yesterday morning. police now believe a suspect was an attorney who lived near where the shooting took place. abc's station in houston spoke to relatives of the man who owns the car police have surrounded in this video. they say he was having financial troubles and had been behaving erratically. police haven't released his name but say he was shot and killed by police. nine people were hurt in the shooting. story out of indiana where two children were found dead just hours after an amber alert was issued for them. now their mother is under arrest accused of killing them. police issued the alert for 7- year-old lilliana hernandez and 6-year-old renee pastor around noon yesterday. it's believed they were abducted by their mother. later that evening the mom reportedly drove to a police station, flagged down an officer and said her two kids were dead in the back seat of her car. she faces two counts of murder.

the amber alert was issued. they are still searching for him this morning. new information we've learned the two men arrested for the murder of a california couple were friends of the victim's teenaged daughter who was reported missing after the murders. jennifer jost and her husband christopher were found dead sunday in hair home with a family friend. friends of the daughter, 17- year-old caitlyn said she became friends with the two suspects with the furry community. furies are people who enjoy frank felix and john acosta arrested in the murders. a 17-year-old girl also arrested but so far her identity hasn't been released. new data from the fbi shows violent crime is rising across the country after years of declines. a trend in murder rates spiking nearly 11% higher in 2015 than the previous year. violent crime overall is up almost 4%. the fbi says these numbers are actually down though over five and 10-year periods.

there is still work to do. samsung is trying to put a positive spin on the negative news about the galaxy note 7, the company says about 90% of the people affected by the recall are sticking with the phone, that is a new version of this phone that isn't prone to catching fire. the company had to issue a massive recall of the galaxy note 7 after defective battery caused some of them to catch fire. according to samsung more than 60% of users in the u.s. and south korea have been able get a replacement. earlier we reported one in five would switch to apple. i guess they decided not to. good for samsung. good for us? >> we're definitely sitting pretty weatherwise. the clearwater hyatt beach camera looking at blue skies and sunshine. really it's gorgeous. if you're at the beaches the

rain is closer to the coastline. it's in anclote key and moving into the holiday area north of tarpon springs but not a ton of rain. they are isolated batches of rain that are developing in the gulf and we have a west-to-east flow so that is why our best chance of rain is closer to the coast early in the day but we'll see more widespread showers and storms through the afternoon. just like we usually do. 81 now in tampa. 82 new port richey. 72 bartow. 73 lakeland. we'll watch the temperature pop up in a bit. to clearwater beach, 88 degrees is a high. the water temperature is also at 88. we have that morning rain chance but as just saw in the radar it's dry there now. we don't have anything that is immediately headed into the area. there's also a slight chance of afternoon showers and storms but this is far from a washout. we'll get a lot of good dry hours at the beaches today. thursday we have that front that is approaching but it fizzles out just to the south of us on friday.

so that means we're going to have slightly lower temperatures in the morning starting on friday, and we'll have less afternoon shower and storm coverage, also going to be less humid. so still pretty good front. that is our friend. normally -- today getting close to 90 degrees. lots of humidity. another hot and steamy day. same for wednesday and thursday. do think we'll have a decent. a shower and thunderstor afternoons but friday like i said we start to see lower temperatures in the morning, even in the afternoon with a high of 86. i third it will feel more comfortable with the lower humidity. this weekend is just looking fabulous. look at that. 86 degrees and -- on saturday and 87 on sunday. i already flipped past it now and -- there you go. now you can see it again, 30% coverage of afternoon showers and storms saturday and sunday. so really looking like a
