it is continuing to move to the north with the high fluctuating. this is going to be heading north as a major hurricane. that hasn't changed. we are going to be talking about torrential rain and the eventual track as it passes east of us. i want to get to the local weather with temperatures in little cooler, upper 60s right now. by later this afternoon we will get back to some showers and storms. i think by lunchtime is just some isolated stuff going on with a potential wet evening commute. we have had crashes on i 75. we still have a few flashing lights out there but nothing slowing you down. as far as you drive through downtown tampa, interstate 275

knock people over. you can imagine you can get to your home or leave it if you are there. this area did have mandatory evacuation. some homes took on water and their property was damaged. if you are watching this and were affected fema tells us every family will be assessed and taken care of on a case-by- case basis.>> you won't know what type of assistance are eligible for until you register with fema, did you will find out. >>reporter: to do so you can either call 1.800.621.fema or go online to www.disaster assistance or go online to www.disasterassistance.gov. fema says there is help. that is why we are here this morning because we want to talk to these folks and see if they have registered and if they need help and if they are getting it. we're live in new port richey.

better idea of how newly approved funding will be used to fight the zika virus. senior officials with the us department of health and human services are scheduled to give an update this afternoon. congress passed $1.1 billion to prevent the virus and stop it from spreading. we are waiting to see how much money will come to florida. and new preliminary testing suggested there aren't still new cases in miami beach. a consumer alert, sammy's milk baby food is recalled over concerns that it may contain a potentially deadly bacteria. the fda says the baby food maker did not test for a bacteria that can cause severe and deadly blood infections or meningitis. they also say the baby poop may have an adequate levels of iron.

shelters, breeders, pet stores, and every day people don't sell pets to those convicted of abusing them. a woman is getting a special dedication, she is a former foster child, social worker, and longtime volunteer. the 34-year-old was abused as a child and recently diagnosed still continues to mentor kids. today, children and coworkers will dedicate a sunflower garden to her at the courtyard near the children's services building. hurricane matthew is barreling towards jamaica, haiti, and cuba with wind speeds of 130 miles per hour. matthew will bring devastating flooding to the western tip of haiti and matthew is discharging -- is the strongest atlantic storm in recent history.

right now for us we are in the middle and upper 70s. a few clouds and yesterday we had those late date thunderstorms. today we had a similar pattern setting up. some will be on the heavier side as far as the potential for downpours. we had storm is marching west yesterday meeting the seabreeze which will again happen toda these numbers are possible later this afternoon and into the evening hours. it takes a while for things to get going and is usually a very late day event. this continues over the next few days indirectly affected by matthew down to the south. with plenty of moisture there we go, you see that coalescing of the thunderstorms by the time we get into the evening

here is the latest on matthew, 130 miles per hour wind. you can see the thunderstorm activity associated with matthew and the heavy rain already impacted with haiti. they are expecting a potential foot of rainfall. our forecast has a making landfall across the base of wonton moe and -- guantanamo bay. and then it make its into friday. it kind of parallels the coast. we are basically out of the cold, but just keep checking back in case this moves a little further to the west. right now we have to watch this very closely. you can see the computer model taking it in the carolina direction. 87 for us and partly sunny. once again, 50% coverage
