phone from iraq. alex, how is it looking right now? >> reporter: good morning, kendis, good morning, diane. well, you're absolutely right. there is progress but it is slow. both american officials at the pentagon and iraqi military sources are telling us that everything is going according to plan, but that the progress is slow. this is a battle, keep in mind, that was expected to take weeks or months so the initial push towards mosul was to liberate villages in the plains around there's still around 1 million people and understand around 25 villages have now been liberated both between the kurdish forces who we have spent time with as well as the iraqi forces. the kurds now say that after the initial advance on the first day they're going to dig in. they're going to hold back and let the bulk of the forces who are iraqi make that push so what we're hearing this morning is that a new push is under way but as you noted that can be slow.

delays are possible in philadelphia. now to the growing outrage over the arrest of a black man who was walking on the street in suburban minneapolis. >> he was in the street because the sidewalk was closed for construction but the officer says he was impeding the roadway and there's a lot more that happened before the video starts. a controversial encounter sparking outrage. >> you can't just put your hands on me like that. >> reporter: that's a plainclothes police officer stopping this black man for walking on the shoulder of a road in an suburb as the nearby sidewalk is closed for construction. you can see the officer lieutenant hole stone holding on to his jacket as he keeps walking. >> you're going to take me to jail for this. >> reporter: he quickly grows agitated. >> can you put your hands off me. >> reporter: the officer says thomas was impeding the roadway but janet rolls, the woman recording the video says he was hugging the right side of construction. the officer who appears to remain calm refuses to let go of him. >> he's scared, sir.
